Communication has been the hub of society sense the beginning of man. It is the way people pass information from one to the next. Animals have been known to communicate with other animals or humans. A dog will urinate in order to mark his/her territory. This action translates possession to other animals, and the dog will act aggressively defending his/her territory if needed. Other animals have actions that will translate possession, hunger, and love. Humans translate these same ideas by body language (which is non-verbal communication) and speech (which is verbal communication). Humans place their main interest in verbal communication, which consist of communication with sounds from the mouth. With any type of communication there are different languages. Many people are unaware that there are many different types of Sign Language. The languages that people speak are generally learned at an early age. After a child is born the parents beginning to speak to it, and automatically the child begins to learn how to communicate with their mouth. Understandably, whatever language, or languages, the parents speak, will be the language the child learns. However, as a person ages the ability of learning a new language depreciates, and the task becomes exceedingly difficult. Understanding this to be common knowledge, it is not surprising to read about the reaction the Jews expressed on the day of Pentecost when the apostles stud before them speaking in languages they had never spoken before. Today the term for this particular act is called “Speaking in Tongues,” and there has been much debate over this issue. The idea raises many questions such as: “What is a tongue?” “How did someone acquire this ability?” “What is the purpose?” And, “... ... middle of paper ... ... known as the Bible. Keep in mind, if the televangelists who claim to heal by the power of God were able to do so, then why do they wait for people to come to them? Why are they not traveling from one hospital to another healing the sick and raising the dead? It is for the same reason people cannot speak in a language they have not learned, miracles have ceased (1 Corinthians 13:10). The idea of speak in an unlearned language, or speaking in tongues, is a much debated topic among religious enthusiast. This topic, like many others, will continue to be debate until the final trumpet sounds and the church rise to meet Christ in the hair. However, if one was to choose to forget everything he or she has learned about the subject, and study the scriptures for themselves, then they would discover the truth. All miracles, including speaking in tongues, have ceased.
Speaking in Tongues, written by ZZ Packer, is a short story about a young girl who demonstrates extreme character change throughout the story. Tia Townsend starts out as an innocent, conservative church-going girl who grows and evolves into a rebellious teen. Through tone, setting, and a variety of metaphors, we are able to see how the different aspects of Tia’s life contribute to the overall plot. By connecting with the reader, Packer truly demonstrates how the struggles and experiences Tia went through ultimately shaped her as a character.
Sign language is a natural human language, they have their own vocabularies and sentence structures. Sign language comes into practice wherever Deaf societies come into existence. Sign language is not identical worldwide; every country has its own language and accents; however, these are not the verbal or transcribed languages used by hearing individuals around them.
Communication is used throughout every primate and animal and it includes any behaviors, scents, and autonomic responses. Communication is used to indicate submission, reassurance, or amicable intentions. Vocalizations are used as a form of communication to inform others of predator or food presence. Social living would not be possible without communication.

Today I am following in their footsteps with a passion from God for the deaf language, culture, and souls. For almost a decade, an intense ardor for American Sign Language and a desire to reach its native users for Christ seeded itself in my soul, wove its roots deeper and deeper, and blossomed into one of the greatest loves of my life. American Sign Language is a unique language with a rich history that not only provides a service to people in the deaf culture, but also to hearing people who seek to attain fluency.
Very basic, elementary and logical characteristics made the Native American Sign Language the world's most easily learned language. It was America's first and only universal language. The necessity for intercommunication between Indian tribes having different vocal speech developed gesture speech or sign language (Clark; pg. 11). Although there is no record or era dating the use of sign language, American Indian people have communicated with Indian Sign Language for thousands of years. The signs illustrated ideas and the language conveyed a message. Many of the simplistic nonverbal gestures that were used by the Indian tribes across the United States are still in use around the world today.
One who is hard of hearing might only be able to communicate through sign language. What becomes of them if no one near can understand them? This demonstrates the importance of knowing multiple languages whether it is Sign Language, Spanish, French, Dutch, Mayan, or any other translation of words. Language is a fundamental component of any interpersonal relationship. Cultures throughout history have crumbled as a result of language barriers, leaving only artifacts and records to tell their story. This has been exhibited in various indigenous civilizations across the globe, such as the Coast Miwok language, which had been spoken from the San Francisco Bay to Bodega Bay. Communication involves the exchange of messages and is a process which all individuals participate in. Whether it is through spoken word, written word, non-verbal means or even silence, messages are constantly being exchanged between individuals or groups of people (Bach & Grant 2009). All behaviour has a message and communication is a process which individuals cannot avoid being involved with (Ellis et al 1995).
The study of the Pentecostal phenomena is to understand the language of the Pentecostal churches. It should be noted that Pentecostal phenomena which includes signs and wonders, miracle, tongue speaking and so on is to be seen as language of the Pentecostal churches viewing it from different perspective of language.2
The Bible makes it clear what speaking tongues really is. People who were filled with the Holy Ghost preached in their own tongue and the Spirit translated the sermon so that the crowds would be able to hear the Gospel. After all, the purpose of speaking in tongues was to get the Gospel out. So, we saw how the Bible declares what tongues are, next week we will look at what tongues are not.

Sign language is believed to be present in the Western world around the early 17th century. The system of signing is made up of hand movements to represent the alphabet, conventional gestures, hand signs, mimic and finger spelling. Sign language is one of the earliest and most simple forms of communication among humans. We use sign language when emphasizing in speech and when waving goodbye or hello to another person.
A language is defined as "a systematic means of communicating ideas or feelings by the use of conventionalized signs, sounds gestures or marks having understood meanings." (Webster's, 654), and "is a tool for communication" (Emmet, 22). In most common use of language, these signs are the words which we employ in such a way that they may communicate ideas or feelings. Communication, that is, the conveyance of an idea or emotion from one to another, relies largely upon language, and rightly so, as it is a powerful tool when employed correctly. However, misunderstandings in communication occur when two people have a different understanding of their language, or they use language in such a way that it results in communication which is unclear or vague.
Communication is a source of delivering messages form one to another. Through communication people share their ideas, feelings, thoughts and emotions. Man carries out his needs and also helps others by knowing each other.
Since the time when man first learned to express how they felt in written form, by drawing or writing, we have tried to communicate with other people. First, it was the prehistoric man with their conceptual cave drawings showing what animals to hunt, how to hunt them, and how to cook them. Soon that form took to hieroglyphics, in which the Egyptians would tell stories about battles they had won and about new pharaohs that had been born. This picture form soon turned in to words in which the Romans would communicate with one another. So it went, each generation progressed more and more, until it was the 20th century.
Communication is defined as “the act or process of using words, sounds, signs or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, and feelings to someone else.” From that description, communication can be characterized as anything that can be used to get a message or a piece of knowledge from one individual to another. Communication helps humans to function orderly and productively. Without communication, the evolution of religion, government, art, clothing and much more would not have been possible. This makes communication a major cause of the evolution of human society with the solitary purpose: to inform and provide new information to others. Communication allows us to understand and gain knowledge and understanding of information.
