Fyodor Dostoevsky was a Russian novelist who wrote many exceptional pieces from short stories to his world renowned novels. He was a man of many talents and his writings reflected his individual character throughout his life. The society in which Fyodor Dostoevsky was raised in impacted his writings and in particular impacted the novel Crime and Punishment. His life experiences from early childhood have impacted the content of this novel. Everything that Fyodor grew up learning about and his understanding of the world made him righteously obsessed with writing about his perceptions he had seen since he was first a child.
Dostoevsky was native to Moscow Russia since he was born in 1821 and his ideas and thoughts were shaped on what was happening in Moscow during his life. Moscow during the 1800’s was recovering from the devastation of the capital being moved back to St. Petersburg when the Monarch of Russia decided to begin trade with England again. This caused a big problem for Russia and the city Moscow itself because it angered the French, which in return, caused a war that was just outside of Moscow itself. Moscow was soon being taken over by Napoleon which caused many of Moscow’s people to start to burn down the city. After the war however the city was rebuilt and began to grow into the industrial capital of Russia during the mid to late 1800’s. With the growth of industry during this time brought many business and scholar like men to Moscow. These scholars and business men became essential in Dostoevsky writings because he became fond of observing there habits during this time period. This is seen quite well in Crime and Punishment because Dostoevsky is writing about an ex-scholar that was troubled because of the downfall...

...t was a reflection of his life, as well, as a reflection of the time period of which he knew. His ability to take his society that he knew and to transfer it into the content of the book is amazing and that is why it is one of the classical pieces of literature.
