Social networking over the past couple of years has basically gone viral. There are many social networking sites available to the public including Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn. Facebook is the second largest social networking site on the web and Twitter is gaining on it and threatens to become the number one social networking site. Facebook and Twitter are two social networking sites that seem to have a lot of similarities. The major problem that these two social networks have is that Twitter has a controlled level of social networking. With Facebook, you are not allowed a one way interaction meaning that if I feel the need to want to follow someones posts then they have to accept my friend request before I can see what they are posting.
Some major differences between Facebook and Twitter are that Facebook was launched by Mark Zuckerberg and his college roommates in February 2006. Twitter was founded on March 21st, 2006 by Jack Dorsey and was launched on July 5th, 2006, with the help of his friends. Facebook is used by members for a variety of purposes. The main reason Facebook is used is so that individuals who wish to stay connected with friends can and individuals who wish to reconnect with people that they knew can also do so. As well as having a personal profile, Facebook allows you to post messages on other people's walls, upload pictures and videos, share links, write long notes, send private messages to friends, etc. Twitter only allows users to post 140 character messages, or tweets. Twitter allows you to follow the messages of other users on their twitter feed. Twitter is mainly used to communicate with other individuals with similar interests, regardless if you know each other. Users are able to ...

With all of this said I think Twitter is more superior than Facebook because I feel as if more people are involved with Twitter than they are with Facebook. Sometimes I think that Facebook is becoming more of an adult social media site because I hardly see any teenagers on there anymore unless they are adding pictures. I think Twitter fits us teenagers and college students more because you get to voice your opinion and say what you want and nobody really cares. I hardly ever see any adults on Twitter.
I learned a lot from writing this paper. I never would've guessed that Twitter and Facebook had so much in common.

In today’s world of ever-expanding technology, even the oldest generations alive today are aware of the surge of social media usage in recent years. The fast growth has brought about many social networks, such as Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram, but of all of the social media networks still thriving, this essay will discuss Twitter with an emphasis on how it has evolved, how it has influenced the world, and how it has managed to stay relevant over the years. Social media has altered the way ideas change hands and how fast those ideas spread. News and information that would have taken days or even weeks to go from one location to another can now occur in seconds. This ease of communication has never been so available to people around the world as it is now. Our social media network might be strong, but how about our interpersonal network, our relationships with actual people like our friends, families, classmates, teachers, bosses, etc.?
