Social Media Networks are the current phenomenon of our generation. According, to Internet World Stats “the base internet usage around the world is 2.267 billion people using the web” (http://www.internetworldstats.com/). This gives an understanding of how many people use online social media networks. It is estimated fifty-six percent of Americans have a profile on a social media site (http://socialhabit.com/downloads/). For the lesser half of Americans who are not connected and contemplating, take in to consideration that Social Media networks promise availability, connectivity and networking.
The availability to any social media network is abundant. These networks can be assessed from any internet/Wi-Fi connection including smart phones. An estimated 751 million people access Facebook via mobile with over 7000 devices (http://visual.ly/social-media-facts-2013). Facebook is one of many social networking services, launched in 2004 and founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students (https://www.facebook.com). Instagram is yet another popular social media network with currently over 100 million active users. Created in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger initially for the Apple devices, its availability now ranges across the board of smart phone devices (http://instagram.com/about/us/#). Another estimate is,” 4.2 billion people use mobile devices to access social media sites” (http://visual.ly/social-media-facts-2013). The availability of these types of social networks through mobile devices has magnified the popularity. Many measures have been out in place by these social networks to protect the users with privacy settings. New updates are never in lack to insure the users privacy but the user must engage and enable them. These risk are at the discretion of the users responsibility.
These social media networks prove to live up to their claims. For the responsible user, the benefits outweigh the negatives. The user can stay connected to the world at their discretion with accessibility. A responsible user can publicly share and create connectivity from the privacy of their homes. Lastly, the responsible user can engage in many social networking possibilities joining into a world of Social Media Network.
