Placement of Siblings in Out of Home Care The transition for a child into out of home care is difficult for a multitude of reasons. There are many values held by social workers working in the foster care system that form the basis for best practice when encountering such issues. One example in which best practice is particularly relevant in this area is when a sibling group becomes involved in out of home care. The need for social workers to decide placements and visitations will not only impact the relationships the children have with each other but ultimately the individual children themselves. Thus, when evaluating this topic within our current context, there are many questions that should be addressed. Those considered include: What is the importance of sibling placement in foster care? What policy is currently in place to support this notion? How is this currently practiced in our child welfare system? What can be done to improve this practice in the foster care system?
