Should Prostitution be Legalized?

Prostitution, which is the act of engaging in sexual intercourse for money, has been part of human society since Biblical times. It had become a common part of our society because the women that choose to take part in prostitution are often on the brink of bankruptcy or already are and need a way to provide for themselves and/or their families. They have few to no laws in place to protect them. This leads to the question of whether prostitution should be legalized or whether it should be kept as a common, but illegal occurrence. There are many reasons it is better for prostitution to be legalized.
Prostitution has been not just recognized, but referenced for hundreds of years. It has even been referred to in the Bible not just once, but many times. In Leviticus 19:29 the verse states, “Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and turn to wickedness.” This was acting as a message to parents to keep their daughters virgins until they are married off. This was just one of the earlier instances it was mentioned, it was also mentioned by Jesus in the Parable of the Two Sons, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the Kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after you saw this you did repent and believe him.” (Matt 21: 31-32). In today’s society, there are very few people who haven’t heard of prostitution or known the gist of what it meant. It has, unfortunately become a common practice in our society and around the world. This has led many people to form an opinion on prostitution as a whole and not just its legalization. A...
