This is a story about series of of the mysterious murders which were done quite mysteriously in one of the pacific quiest and the most peaceful island in Great Britain in Combe Island. Commander Adam Dalgliesh is brought to investigate a murder which was done in the most popular and beautiful place in the Island, in The Lighthouse. Combe Island is an outpost place, where rich and powerful people were coming to relax and to run away from their problems. Famed novelist Nathan Oliver was one of those people. He had a unique opportunity to come to the Island whenever he wanted, because he was born in this place. To the Combe he arrives with his daughter Miranda and his copy-editor Dennis Tremlett, who actually has an affair about which Miranda’s father has no idea. When Oliver discovers that they are couple, he reacts with fury and tells them to leave the Island the next day. A lot of people in the island find Oliver very unwelcome and unpleasant guest. Writer is trying to push the manager of the Combe Island Trust Rupert Maycroft to make sure that he could live in a cottage where was living the oldest habitant of the island Emily Holcombe. She is the sole remaining member of a family that owned the island for many years. It was because he said that this cottage is more suitable for writer. The next day writer Nathan Oliver was found dead hanging from the topmost railings of the lighthouse. The pathologist, Dr. Edith Glenister, determines that Oliver was throttled to death before a rope was tied around his neck and his body thrown over the side of the lighthouse railing. As it comes later Kate and Smith finds out that Oliver was Dan Padget‘s father. He also killed Adrian Boyde because the priest knew Padgett wasn't telling the truth about his whereabouts the day Oliver was killed. It was too risky for Dan to keep Adrian alive because knowing his weakness for alcohol and his sense of honesty, he could not let him tell that he could be a murder. Before Kate and Francis can arrest Padgett, he takes a young staff member, Millie Tranter, hostage and threatens to throw her from the lighthouse. Kate bravely forces herself through a narrow window so she can unlock the lighthouse door. She and Benton climb to the top, confront Padgett, and Benton convinces him to surrender.

Christopher wakes up one day at seven minutes past midnight, and he notices the next-door neighbor’s dog laying on the ground. So he decides to go over and check out what happened, soon he found a garden fork sticking out of a dog named Wellington. Her purpose is clear, to intrigue the audience with a true story of the murder of Polly Wilson, which had not yet been heard. Though not a lot of people had ever heard of John Wilson, the first ever Saskatchewan RNWMP officer who was found guilty of a crime, being that he killed his wife, and hung to his death. She writes her novel that is not only entertaining to her audience but also serves the purpose of educating fellow Canadians about the true life events that followed John Wilson and his fellow RNWMP officers.

The investigation was inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Mrs. Shears gets out of her house to see Christopher next to her dead dog, leading her to think that Christopher killed her dog. The police arrive at the house and they take Christopher to the station. Later the Christopher’s father comes to take him home. Christopher goes to neighbors houses and then asks them about Wellington to try and find out who killed Wellington. Christopher’s father forbids him to go around to neighbors but Christopher ignores his father. Christopher goes to a neighbor and asks about Wellington she unfolded that Mr. Shears and his mother had an affair. Christopher’s father finds his book in which he is writing all of this and takes it away from him. Later when Christopher’s father is at work Christopher goes to look for his boom in his father's room only to find letters addressed to him from his very own mother. Christopher finds out that his father has been lying to him. His father comes home and sees that Christopher found the letters and immediately apologizes to Christopher. This is when Christopher’s father tells Christopher that he was the one who had killed Wellington. The reason he killed Wellington is because he and Mrs. Shears had a relationship after Christopher’s mom left but Mrs.Shears ended it so out of anger Christopher’s father kills Wellington. Christopher was fearful that his father killed Wellington so
I read the book The Client by John Grisham. This book was about a boy, named Mark Sway, and is younger brother who witnessed a horrible suicide. Before the suicide, he talked to the lawyer who was about to kill himself. This lawyer, Jerome Clifford, had a client in New Orleans who had murdered a United States Senator and hid the body at the lawyer?s house. Right before he shot himself, the lawyer told Mark everything about his Mafia connected client. When the lawyer took his life, the younger brother went into shock, but Mark realized that he had to tell the police something. He didn?t want to tell them that he knew the whereabouts of the body for fear of the Mafia coming after him. He just decided to tell the police that he and his brother were in the woods and they found the car and the lawyer?s body, not knowing anything about it.
