In this essay, I equip with analytical views of self-development of my experiences as a part of professional and Academic skills support (PASS) module. It helped to apply theoretical knowledge for the outdoor activities in the Buxton Residential Trip starting from the team formations and end up with the poster presentation and other group activities which are essential for building up of self-confidence and behavioral intelligence. My essay aims on Leadership, Teamwork and self-management and effective communication skills and concludes focussing on key areas with appropriate references provided.
My group consisted of five MBA students, including myself. Students are made to form as different learning teams in order to target the pre-determined goals. According to Frederick Mumma’s personal and team roles profile concept, there are terminal and specific objectives that are designed for development of communication and team spirit in performing the tasks. This can be related to the team work building 3-dimensinal model (Elizabeth yah, 2006) which is adopted from Belbin Team roles theory (Belbin, 1988).As a part of team we worked on the weaknesses which are overwhelmed by cooperation and communication effectiveness.
Team spirit in order to achieve things developed enthusiasm, get to know other teammates, enhancing the communication skills with particular emphasis on proper listening. This report will reflect upon the theories, strategies and skills learnt through this module on personal development. It will also explore how these learning outcomes can help to improve working elements and understand others better. This module was about the social and emotional aspects of teaching and learning. We started from understanding the meaning of social and emotional development and others aspects of it and leading to more complex topics like self-awareness, the impact ones social and emotions output, the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication. We looked into various counselling theories and approaches which are useful for our personal life as well as professional life.
Communication within a group in society today is a skill that can enhance the habits of a successful team. When individuals decided to work as a team, it is no longer about that one person it becomes about several individuals acting as one. Team members must fully understand the common goal of the group and also must understand their individual role as a team. Once each member realizes that the work they do individually still affect the group that is the first habit acquired towards a successful team. In additional habit for a successful team is by earning each team member’s trust will insure the communication and growth within the team. As well, focusing on how you communicate is a big part the growth of the team.
I began my assignment by going through all the topics that I had learned since the start of my MBM course, and it is when I selected the topic of interpersonal communication which instantly made me think of the recent problems that I had gone through in my previous group, due to the lack of effective communication. After discussing my chosen topic with my present group members and giving them the example of our previous group problems, I realized that the majority of them had also chosen topics from the same field. The discussion enhanced my thinking that lack of interpersonal communication skills is one of the main reason for most of the differences that arise
The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester. While reading our Interpersonal Communications Book, three goals kept being highlighted that I personally wanted to accomplish by the end of course. I’m sure that by now have noticed that I keep referring to my topics as goals. The reason why I’m doing so is because I’m still on that learning curve…an ongoing process. If can recall back to all of our assignment in this course they all bring one collective point. That point is that, Interpersonal communication is an essential skill in everything that we do in life.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
This reflective essay has critically reviewed my personal and professional skills that are essential for communication and developing positive relationships with others. Teamwork is a vital aspect of the public and community services. These services consist of groups of people working together to achieve a mutual goal/aim. Teamwork is a key element for having a successful and efficient team. The way a team works together influences how successful they are and how efficient and effective they can be in achieving their common goals/aims. This essay will evaluate various teamwork theories, that explain the stages of forming a group and how it develops into a well established team. Examples of these theories include: Tuckman's theory of team development, Belbin's team roles, conflict theory, pluralism, trait theory and social learning theory. This essay will consider Tuckman's theory of team development, trait theory and social learning theory.
To elaborate, by mentioning intercultural understanding, I meant that each cultural group has different ways to communicate. For example, Western culture encourages people to be up-front and straight-forward with their communication; contrastly, people who are influenced by Eastern culture might be less outspoken about their ideas and pay a lot of attention to nonverbal language of the people around them. Culture is something that if one have never encountered or exposed to it, he or she would never know. I hope that after this project, besides of the knowledge we gained from the research itselves, all four of us would improve even more on our intercultural and interpersonal communication skills. Because at the end of the day, the knowledge that one have learnt might be forgotten, but all of the skills that one have gained will stay for a very long time.
This course arises with the aim to develop competences and skills to enhance the future career prospects of university students. This module has had a positive impact in different personal development competences, in communication, self- management, self-confidence and the ability to learn effectively in different learning styles.
Self-development, as defined by Wikipedia, is a deliberate focus by the individual on self-improvement and the self-realization of their goals and desires. Self-development can be physical, experiential, mental, emotional or spiritual. Self-development is essentially the exploration of self. The motivation to undertake Self-development begins with a desire to realize our higher selves through transcending the negative qualities and behaviors we have learned and adopted throughout our lives.
