1. INTRODUCTION In recent years, experts have expressed alarm about the rise in internet privacy violations and cyber-attacks to e-commerce systems especially in the hospitality industry. “In 2011, Trustwave SpiderLabs conducted 42 percent more data breach investigations than in the previous year. More than 85 percent of these data breaches occurred in the food and beverage, retail and hospitality industries.” (Savitz & Percoco, 2012). It seems logical that any business would understand that building a secure business is important to long term success. (Vacca, 2012). E-commerce as a catalyst has led to the diversification and availability of various electronic means of payment. It is therefore necessary, that an emerging e-commerce business, keeps with the trend of convenience by making available different payment options. The growth in e-commerce and sophistication of web solutions over the past few years has led to an increase in online reservations made through hotel websites. These hotels do not only use the internet to facilitate guest booking, but also to engage customers in loyalty programs. With all the promise that lies ahead, international hotel groups need to ensure that they are taking steps to secure these new payment channels. (Ilori, Payment Security: Security Options, 2013). Using the internet to relate with and engage customers in loyalty programs is a subset of social commerce. “In this new way of commerce mediated by social media both firms and consumers benefit. Consumers make informed decisions based on information not only from firms but also from other consumers.” (Shadkam & O’Hara, 2013) This paper explores security and payment issues faced by e-commerce businesses in the hospitality industry. Over the past few years, the Internet “is fundamentally changing the way companies operate,” to create additional revenue streams and refine the way they do business with existing customers (Ecommerce). E-commerce is crucial to the future success of companies, and those that do not embrace the Internet to conduct its business “will be destroyed by competitors who are leveraging the power of the Internet” (Ecommerce).
Focus on the things happening around the world, you need to understand the importance of information security, what is one thing, the need for security requirements and security related tools and technologies. In order to succeed in the highly competitive e-commerce market, companies must fully understand the security threats of the Internet, take to overcome their technological advantage and win the trust of customers. For businesses serious about e-commerce solution is to implement a complete e-commerce trust basis. PKI encryption and digital signature technology, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) digital certificate provides authentication, data integrity and privacy necessary for e-commerce applications.

The e-commerce industry is one of most profitable segments in the US economy as well as global economy. E- Commerce Industry Report underlines that all companies which are included in the statement have remarkable revenue growth. While the global economy continues to improve, many consumers in North America and Europe continue to invest heavily in the market and in the IT technology. The data protection and security are significant factors for investors and consumers. Moreover, e- commerce is an example of an industry that grows by acquisitions which provide a greater opportunity to penetrate new geographic platforms.
In response to the electronic business needs created by electronic transactions and with the increasing need for third-party assurance to guarantee the trustworthiness of the whole transaction, web seal assurance services have emerged. These web trust assurance services were developed to reduce consumers' concerns.

The digital era arrives. Blue Book information editorial board and Social Science Literature Publishing House (2010) pointed out that “China's e-commerce transaction volume reached 3.85 trillion yuan in 2009”. Utilisation of e-business services was also high amongst Hong Kong people. About 98.3% of all persons had used e-business services such as Octopus Card and Automatic Teller Machine (Census and Statistics Department, 2009). One of the pitfalls for the development of e-business, however, is the concerns on consumer privacy. According to Green’s (1999) survey, 54% of respondents had decided not to purchase a product because of a concern on overuse of personal information collected in the e-business transaction. This essay examines the circumstance on protection of consumer privacy in e-business. As e-business is surging by astronomical number and consumer information is a kind of property, the protection of consumer privacy in e-business becomes significant. This essay begins with the causes of the problem, and then move on to analyse the effects. Lastly, the essay concludes with the solutions to the problem.
Data security is a big concern for consumers and businesses alike. We have talked about data security in class, as it is a major concern and social issue. With more and more people using debit and credit cards to complete transactions, both online and at the store, both consumers and businesses are searching for ways to keep this data secure. One of the largest and most recent data breaches that comes to mind is the Target data breach that happened last November and December. Yang and Jayakumar, in their article in The Washington Posts (2014), stated that up to forty million customers’ card information had been stolen.

Privacy and security of personal data is one of the most difficult challenges that businesses dealing in e-commerce venture face in today’s global world. Though these business sites have little or no interest in private and personal information of the users, but the information collected by them can however lead to risks. The personal information is often provided by users actively and voluntarily such as names, email ids, physical addresses or even credit card information. Though in some cases information is passively passed on by users and even sites to third party, for example some of site banner ads allow third party advertisers to track users browsing habits. But most often websites gather and use the data containing individual’s information without even their knowledge. Main concern of e-commerce business ventures in today’s world is lower the liability risk in regards to the site’s personal information collection practices. In order to achieve the desired success they should constantly determine and examine what kind of information is being collected by the site and should constantly develop privacy policy statement in order to protect the information. Among many aspects of crime on the information superhighway, electronic vandalism, theft, money laundering, electronic vandalism, illegal interception, electronic funds transfer crimes are some examples. In the following paper more insight on privacy issue. Some of these issues, available options and risks surrounded are further highlighted.
E- Commerce is a phenomena that is emerging rapidly between businesses all over the world, and it has affected the businesses at all sizes in many aspects.
