Introduction
Within the public safety field, adult school crossing guards are among the least acknowledged and recognized of all. They are constantly battling harsh weather conditions and the all-too-common road rage from daily commuters while tending for our children’s safety. Unfortunately, these school zone guardians are at constant risk from the many inherent hazards of their job. Among those are the harsh weather conditions they encounter without shelter, the oncoming traffic they signal to stop, and the ever-increasing violence of daily commuters.
The Job
An adult school crossing guard’s primary responsibility is to ensure children cross the street safely when walking or biking to and from school (University of North, n.d.). Crossing guards also prevent erratic behavior by children and other pedestrians while near potentially dangerous vehicle traffic. They use existing gaps in traffic to safely guide pedestrians across the street, they alert motorists of crossing pedestrians, and they ultimately report any incidents and mishaps to the authorities.
In reality, each child is overall responsible for his own safety; nevertheless, the crossing guard are placed there as a risk reduction tactic to avoid any children casualties (University of North, n.d.). He patiently waits for pedestrians to approach the road crossing or intersection and politely educates them on road crossing safety while waiting for the right moment to stop traffic.
In due time, the crossing guard signals oncoming traffic to stop using hand signals or signaling devices (University of North, n.d.). While the traffic stops, the guard walks to the middle of the road/intersection, signals pedestrians when it is safe to cross, and remains there until all pedestr...

Conclusion
Keeping in mind that school-zone crossing guards are safety measures of their own, many strategies can be used to make this profession safer. Even though, stopping traffic for pedestrians to cross during rush hour is a risky business: the benefit of having a crossing guard safely guide our children to safety heavily outweighs the risks. With that being said, implementing the previously identified risk reduction tactics can ensure crossing guards operational risk level is tolerable limits.

In the late 1920’s, school buses and larger industrial vehicles became a popular source of transportation that started from Ford dealership owner, A.L. Luce. Luce had plans to extend the school bus frame (from a Model T) to accompany more students per one bus. As school buses and city buses became more common throughout America’s cities for daily transportation, safety regulations and precautions were put in place. Safety features, including flashing caution lights, visors outside of the vehicle, and motorized stop signs and stop arms were all installed within the next 80 years to make the journey to and from school safer. Although many of these precautions were taken, many citizens believe that not enough action was taken to promote safety on school buses. Because a variety of school bus companies do not have a stance on whether seatbelts should be installed or not, the safety concerns mainly impact parents and school leaders. A good solution for many of those concerned would be the installation of seatbelts on every school bus within the United States, but the reality of seatbelts being on buses is quite the opposite of what people believe. Seatbelts are not the justification to these safety issues concerning school corporations and parents nationwide, as the seatbelts are a costly and dangerous factor.
Which can be having armed officers walk though halls, making sure the school is safe from any harm that could potentially happen.
In light of recent acts of violence in the nation’s schools, school safety and security have become a hot topic. However, the issue of school safety goes beyond student violence. It includes property damage, theft, and anything else that concerns the overall well being of schools. While it is important to create a safe environment in schools it is also necessary to make sure students feel comfortable in this atmosphere. The security can not be so overbearing that it becomes a negative tactic that gets in the way of the students main objective, learning. Barely noticeable cameras, ID cards, and security guards without uniforms can help generate this safe, but comfortable learning environment. On the other hand metal detectors and mini police forces may be a little too reminiscent of George Orwell’s novel, 1984, or even modern prisons. School security should not be overbearing or obtrusive where it gets in the way of a comfortable environment that is conducive to learning in the nation’s schools.
At public crossings there are specific signs called Crossbuck signs, these signs are in the shape of an x with the black lettering “Railroad Crossing”. Sometimes there are more than one track and there will be a number located underneath the sign indicating how many tracks there are. Regardless of what indications a crossing may have it is required that you stop 15 to 50 feet from the nearest rail. It is also illegal to park closer than 50 feet to any railroad unless it is posted that it is okay to do so. To safely cross a railroad you should: always expect a train to be coming, don’t get trapped on the railroad, if you are to get stuck or your vehicle stalls get out and run toward the approaching train as debris from the collision could cause injury, watch for second trains, never drive through, around, or under barriers, never race trains, watch for stopped cars, don’t misjudge the speed and distance of the approaching train, and exercise extra caution at night. Trains can be very dangerous and they are often much faster than a driver may
Although most security measures passively make schools safer, it is not nearly enough to prevent an individual who intends on creating mass violence from completing his or her task. State representatives, national organizations, school staff, and parents need to come together to figure out the most reliable ways to prevent an active shooter situation from occurring in their schools. One solution that has been active is many schools have partnered with local law enforcement agencies to provide a police officers to patrol school grounds....
It is very important to be very aware and cautious around railroad crossings. They can be verydangerous and getting stuck on the tracks could become a death sentence. There are multiple things to look out for and to do that will help you become safer around railroad crossings. Someof the things you should do is to always slow down when coming to a railroad crossing. Whenyou slow down you have more time to assess the situation and see if it is totally safe to go across. Another thing is you should never pass a car going the same way as you. That is unsafe and can put you in a deadly position. Trains use their horns when they approach to help and warn anyone near. When you approach the crossing it would be wise
...ir doors in a way to stay hidden from any harm. If the intruder is smart enough, they can easily make their way through the school without being caught. That is where the emergency lock downs come into action. National School Safety and Security Services provide school emergency planning evaluations to help schools identify strengths and areas to build upon for creating school emergency plans that not only look good on paper, but stand a better chance of working effectively in a real emergency. Most school leaders know their schools have plans. They just don’t know whether their plans have appropriate or questionable content, if staff have adequately been trained for emergency preparedness, what type of testing and exercising of plans can be done in a reasonable amount of time, and how to improve the chances of what is on paper working in a real emergency (Trump).
It is important that children and young people in a nursery, school, or college setting are protected from harm. It is the adults within the setting responsibility to ensure their welfare. They have a duty of care whilst children are at the setting. All staff and volunteers must be checked for suitability to work with children ( Criminal Records Bureau) before being allowed to work with in the school. By understanding and complying with policies and procedures and being trained in safeguarding and child protection staff can protect children from all types of harm. It also protects adults from allegations of harm or abuse if they comply with policy and procedure. Parents have reassurance that staff are trained and following procedure while their
School violence has become a very popular issue nowadays. From tragic school shootings to unexpected stabbings, each school’s safety is being placed in jeopardy. From Columbine High School shooting in 1999, to Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012 and the recent stabbing in April, school violence has not decreased. It is time to do something now, if further action is not taken these issues will continue. Before school violence becomes too common to students and intruders, restrictions and plans must be implemented now.
Unfavorable situations at home, psychological stability, physical dangers and violence all contribute to this evident shortage. There have been investigations on how organizations, teachers and parents collaborate together in today's society to influence the students understanding of safety in school. The purpose of this paper is to display some examples of each aforementioned contribution and show some of the current measures being taken to aid today's students.

Not all security guards are out in public, depending on position they can be watching through a camera. For example I would compare my quote to Dillard’s because they have cameras and security but security is looking through cameras and not physically there. “Security guards, also called security officers, protect property, enforce rules on the property and deter criminal activity”. Security guards are protection of a certain property to make sure rules are not broken. Rules are always broken that’s why you have a lower type of law enforcement. Being a security guard is important to understand because it requires a lot of dedication and it’s not only your life that can be in danger. You should always follow procedures and pay attention to your surrounding because you never know when or where danger lies.
...feguarding ensures everyone working with students are responsible to respond to their needs, that includes children's ages 0 to 18 and vulnerable adults. All teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment, that not only evolves keeping learners safe form physical, emotional, sexual and neglect abuses but also covers Health and Safety and others policies and procedures. If a student discloses something inappropriate has happened '' You CANNOT promise to keep this information secret or confidential'' , you have a duty to respond (do not ask questions), record and report it to a student advisor team or your line-manager.
