Though we do not realize many animals have a life as this dog has had. Studies show that more animals in the United States are being euthanized every day due to the fact of overpopulation of animals, serious injury or diseases, puppy mills and natural disasters. According to the Humane Society of the United States, they estimated that in 2013, animal shelters care for about six to eight million dogs and cats every year, of this approximately three to four million are euthanized (Pet Overpopulation). This stated would mean that about one animal every eight seconds is euthanized a day. There is no central data reporting agencies of animal shelters to keep track of how many animals are put down so the numbers are estimated. Either way that is too many pets being put down because of overpopulation, serious injury or diseases, puppy mills and/ or natural disasters. Many of those pets are taken to shelters to have little to no hope of getting a home and are being put to sleep as the shelter is not a no kill shelter. There is not an exact number stated how many no kill shelters there are but by looking online or by calling the shelter they are obligated to state whether they are a no kill shelter or not as stated by adoption group owner Suzanne Anderson in an interview. Overpopulation threatens the lives of companion animals more than any infectious disease and results from a combination of too many pets for the number of suitable homes and unprepared pet owners, states Dr. Jeanette O’Quin, who is the current president of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (Whitcomb). No one knows how many dogs and cats are in the United States, but many people debate whether our country suffers from pet overpopulation. Betsy... ... middle of paper ... ...s." 29 August 2013. Most pets are put down or run away rather than have gone through expensive treatment. Even in the aforementioned article “The Last Meow” it mentions a statistics that states, “ Every year, while pets like theirs are saved by the most elaborate means some six million strays are put to sleep.” I have personal experience with my first ever dog whom I loved and the sweetest beagle named Snoopy. In his adult life, Snoopy had ear infection, to which we laid out the money for his ear medication. We paid for the medicine because it was a reasonable price that wouldn’t financially harm us.When he got really old he suffered from back discus problems which hindered his ability to walk and it slowly got worse. The only option was to pay for an expensive surgery that most likely wouldn't lead to a long term solution for is back. We didn’t have all the money in the world so the obvious decision was made and we put him to sleep. In cases like mine, people do not give up the money because of unrighteous selfish reasons but because of their obligation to take care of a family or just themselves. Plus it is just common sense not to go into debut for a pet and the few examples of people who do overspend are considered to be financially irresponsible
“As the birthrate dropped, pets came to take the place of children in some families.” I think this means that pets are basically replacing children in some people's lives. In his article, Bilger says that a man refused to come back from Europe when his son died of a brain tumor, but he had a vet flown in when his dog got cancer. He cared more about his dog than his child.
According to Gamliel (2012), euthanasia refers to actions or omissions that result in the death of a person who is already gravely ill. Techniques of active euthanasia range fro...

How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live and have a future? You wouldn't have the opportunity to crawl, take your first step, have your first kiss, or experience those butterflies in your stomach at the sight of first love. Millions of special moments, a life, shredded to pieces. This is essentially what abortion does. Abortion is not the answer in the case of an unplanned pregnancy and needs to be stopped! First of all, abortion is a type of unnecessary murder that occurs in inhumane ways and cannot be tolerated. Moreover, there are alternatives to abortion and many families who are looking to adopt. Lastly, the side effects of abortion can cause life threatening health risks to the mother. Excuses will always be made, but the bottom line is that abortion is not acceptable and should be stopped.
According to the article “Pet Statistics” by the ASPCA estimates there are 70-80 million dogs and 74-96 million cats owned in the United States. It is impossible to determine the number of stray dogs and cats, but the ASPCA estimates there are 70 million cats alone that are strays in the US (“Pet Statistics”). The overpopulation of dogs and cats live either on the streets and die each day, they live in a shelter and try to get adopted, but even then they die. The ASPCA states that nationwide about 7.6 million companion animals enter the shelter and of the 7.6 million approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats (“Pet Statistics”).

Adopt-A-Child, Inc., is a licensed, non-profit adoption agency dedicated to the ideal of bringing together couples or individuals seeking to build their families with foreign-born infants or children who need homes. The children we identify for adoption have been irrevocably released by their parents or other relatives due to death or abandonment. These youngsters are orphans according to U.S. and international legal definitions. Therefore, in accordance with the laws of both countries concerned, they are fully available for adoption.
So while there are advantages to pet euthanasia, the cons far outweigh the pros. Pets are fun, and they are living things just like us. Killing them is absolutely unacceptable, especially when there are other solutions that work as well. While euthanasia is categorized as a "merciful ending," why should the end come at all before the animal's natural time? Now that you have read this paper, you know more about euthanization, what it is, and how to help prevent more animals from being killed. It's as simple as adopting a

There are many different types of euthanasia animal shelters use to put down animals. The most popular type of euthanasia called intravenous injection, which is a poison containing sodium pentobarbital. This poison is injected in the heart or leg without any pain killers. The animal is put to sleep and in some cases they wake up when they feel the pain and start to struggle and fight the vet. More than one injection may be needed based on the weight of the animal. This process is also used for animals that are euthanized due to disease or injures. Another process is called the gas chamber. The animal is put into these gas chambers and “will usually scream and cry until they fall asleep” (Chrysta). Carbon dioxide is sent out and the animal will die in about twenty minutes. Many animal shelters believe this is an inhumane way of killing the animals and are against it. But there are still animal shelters in the United States that still use this method. Displacement of the neck or known as cervical dislocation is another f...
While some people may believe that euthanizing animals is important and can protect people from dangerous animals or that it puts animals out of pain; I strongly encourage them to look at the other side of the argument. Understanding that many people abuse euthanizing for their own convenience is just one of the reasons we should stop euthanizing. Among other reasons is that people need to understand that euthanizing can immensely hurt a population of species by killing too many too soon. Above all, letting nature take it's course by allowing animals to die when it's their time is why we should not allow humans to euthanize. We should not decide animals fate for them. Therefore, I encourage that we take a stand against euthanasia. Together, we can stop this cruel act against
