Rosa McCauley was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on February 4, 1913, to James McCauley& Leona Edwards. Rosa Parks was born in the same year as when President Woodrow Wilson’s administration initiated racial separation in bathrooms, restaurants, lunchrooms, and break rooms. Rosa’s mother was a teacher before she had Rosa and retired soon after she was born. Her father was a carpenter. Rosa’s mother left her father when she was two yrs old. She lived with her mother while she was educated. Her mother was the one to teach her how to read. She was a very spiritual woman, she went to church her whole life. Her mother and her lived with one of their cousins but soon moved out due to her cousin wanting to legally adopt Rosa and her mother refused to do so. They moved in with another cousin, Cousin Lelar, and stayed there a while. Rosa went to laboratory school that summer at Alabama State Normal College where they would teach basically summer school for children for experience that was valuable for them. After she finished her classes, she and her mother moved back to Pine Level where they lived originally. She started to date Raymond Parks in 1931. She later married Raymond Parks in 1932 at the age of 19

She met her husband Raymond in 1931 through a mutual friend when she was 18 yrs old. Rosa wasn’t that taken with him when she met him, he grew on her. She later married Raymond Parks in 1932 at the age of 19

Rosa Parks joined the Civil rights activism with her husband, who had been prodding her to join as early as 1931, while they were still dating. Her husband Raymond inspired her to do what she did, he was her rock she couldn’t do anything without him....

...r toward the white people even though she had all the right reasons to be bitter and hateful. She didn’t let people squash her down, she said what she wanted to say through anything, or anyone to tell her differently. She was just a very strong lady and I wish I could be like her and face tough decisions when its time to. God gave her the strength to do what was right in hard times and she trusted in Him in them.

James McCauley, Rosa's dad was a carpenter. They lived in Tuskegee and owned farmland of their own. After Sylvester was born, Rosa's little brother, her father left them and went off to live in another town. He had been cheated out of his farmland by a white man and couldn't support the family any longer. Rosa her mother and her brother then moved to live with her grandparents on a farm in Pinelevel, which lay between Tuskegee and Montgomery, Alabama. It was a small plot of land, but it kept them all fed. From this point on Rosa was mainly brought up by her Grandparents with the assistance of her mother. Rosa gave up school when she came close to graduating, around the same time Rosa got married. Raymond Parks married Rosa McCauley December 18, 1932. He was a barber from Wedowee County, Alabama. He had little formal education but a thirst for knowledge. Her husband, Raymond Parks, encouraged her to finish her courses. In 1934 she received her diploma from Alabama State College. She was happy that she completed her education but had little hope of getting a better job. When Rosa had finished school she was lucky enough to get a job as a seamstress in a local sewing factory. Prior to the bus incident Rosa was still fighting. She had run-ins with bus drivers and was evicted from buses. Parks recalls the humiliation: "I didn't want to pay my fare and then go around the back door, because many times, even if you did that, you might not get on the bus at all. They'd probably shut the door, drive off, and leave you standing there."
