Robert Lee Frost was a classic American poet. His work, however, did not first receive recognition in the states, it all started in England.
Robert Frost was born March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California. He was the son of William Prescott Frost, Jr., a journalist, and Isabelle Moodie. For the first eleven years of his childhood, Robert lived in California. His father suffered from tuberculosis, until his fight sadly came to an end on May 5, 1885. With nowhere to go, his mother resorted to moving to New England with their grandparents. There, he attended Lawrence High School. Robert was a very active student there. During high school, he was class poet, editor of school newspaper, right end on the football team; he took Greek and Latin, as well as studying botany and astronomy, and earned co-valedictorian of his graduating class in 1892. (Source 1). He shared that honor with Elinor Miriam White, a woman who soon would mean the world to him. That summer, Frost secretly proposed to Elinor. To his disbelief, she refused. Elinor first wanted to go to college and earn her degree; however, she would not forget about Robert and often thought about their future together. (Source 2).
After high school, Robert moved on to begin the start of a successful life. Harold Bloom, an American literary critic, tells us that Frost had been accepted to both Dartmouth College and Harvard. Unfortunately, money for Robert and his family was tight. As much as he wanted to, he could not afford Harvard. Robert accepted to attend Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. ...t the Amherst College Chapel. There were approximately 700 guests who came to show their condolences. In Robert's honor, “Robert Frost Library” was built at Amherst. With tribute paid by President Kennedy. (Source 2).
