The Risks of Tobacco Use

Most people who smoke do not realize that when one inhales tobacco smoke that they are literally poisoning their body. People do not think about the fact that tobacco is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Parents who smoke do not realize the impact that smoking has their child. Most children want to grow up to be just like their mother or father and if that mother or father smokes then there is a higher chance that the child will be a smoker in the future.

Many teens start smoking tobacco because of the attention that they get from others. Most all teens do not think of what smoking and the use of other tobacco products could lead to life threatening illnesses or death. Teens like to get attention no matter if it is good attention or bad attention (Home Intervention System 1). Teens crave attention and by smoking they get a lot of attention (Home Intervention System 1). Teens like to act as if they are someone special or that they are dangerous (Home Intervention System 1). When teens smoke they feel that they are being noticed by others as if they are someone cool.

These types of behaviors get attention because the initiation of smoking is influenced by having a close friend who smokes or parent (Home Intervention System 2). When teens smoke they think others are looking at them thinking that they want to be like them so they do not think that even the smell of cigarette smoke is not appeal to most people. Teens feel that if they do what their friends do that they will fit in, so if their friends smoke they will most likely try it.The problem is that when they take that first puff, they can become addicted (Home Intervention System 1).
