In this world, there are bad people, and there are evil people, and then there's serial killers! The Vampire of Sacramento, aka Richard Chase was one of the most terrifying, and brutal serial killer that has ever walked the face of this planet. His demonic killing was not done out of hatred, but out of fear. He feared for his life every time he slaughtered one of his victims. His schizophrenic mind convinced him that the Natzis were actualy posining Richard, and in order for him to live, he must drink the blood of the victims and eat the remains. In order to understand why Richard felt like he needed to kill people, people must first look at his early childhood and adulthood, life what he did during his murders, and how he got caught.
Richard chase was born in santa clara county in the 1950s, when he was growing up at the age of ten doctors noticed richard was showing signs of a mental disorder called the Macdonald triad. The macdonalds trades symptoms included enuresis, pyromania, and zoosadism, this was very problematic for the family. Even when he was still in his adolescence he was very well known for abusing drugs and his infamous drinking problems. When he was in Highschool he couldnt ever maintain a steady relationship, in order for him to get a erection or get around girls he needed to perform violent acts such as killing animals. As he was growing up his household became more strict, his father was very ruthless and brutal. His father use to beat and abuse richard due to his alcohol problem. As he became older his mental disorder worsened, He always worried that his heart would suddenly stop beating, or he would cry to his mom because he thought someone had stolen his pulmonary artery. Onced the police entered Richards home and seized him the found the 22 month old baby head mummified, they also found the blender covered with blood and gunk. When they opened the refrigerator the police saw human remains and dog collars. When Richard chase was in court he was originally sentenced to the gas chamber but he pled innocent and claimed insanity. After careful consideration they concluded that richard chase was actually sane when he was committing the crime, but they did not put him in the death sentence. Richard chase was sentenced life in prison and shortly killed himself by saving the medical prescribed anti depressants.

The detectives were able to track Richard. He refused to reason with them, but they found an opportunistic approach to search him. He was discovered with Dan Meredith’s wallet. The serial killer that I have chosen to research is Mark goudeau, also known as the “Baseline Killer”. Mark was born on September 6th 1964, he was an american serial killer and rapist. He was involved in one of the two simultaneously occurring serial killer cases going on in South Phoenix, Arizona at that time. Mark’s was born in Phoenix, and was the second youngest of 13 siblings in which six were felons, and four have done prison time. Mark’s mother was a maid working at all different hours of the day, while his father Willie was a lot attendant for different car dealers. Forensically speaking there is no evidence that proves that Ramirez had any mental disorders. Although he does have the characteristics of someone who is a sociopath, such as compartmentation . However, what intrigued me about Ramirez wasn’t just the murder himself, but what motivated him to commit his murders and the theory of nature versus nurture. Richard did not have a strong foundation as a child because he was being raised by an abusive, alcoholic father and a mother who appeared to not protect Richard from the father, this is the perfect foundation in creating a serial killer. Taking the life of another person is one of the worst infractions of the law to commit. The Bureau of Justice defines serial killing as “[involving] the killing of several victims in three or more separate events” (“Michigan” 1). Serial killers often commit extremely violent crimes; they usually become infamous for these crimes. The first recorded serial killers are probably Jack the Ripper in 1888 and Fritz Haarmann in 1924 (“Michigan” 1). Forensics has changed the way our criminal system works now. A lot of cases are being solved because of the development of forensics. Even cold cases are being brought up to the light to be investigated again and a good percentage of the cases are being solved and criminals are being brought to justice. The green river killer is one case that really got me intrigued into forensics and I got mesmerized by the techniques that are being used to catch murderers and other crimes being committed. The green river killer had an interesting childhood that led him to be a serial killer. He committed multiple murders on prostitutes and left there families with agony and pain. But advances in DNA ultimately led to his demise, police officers were able to capture and arrest him and bring justice to a lot of family’s mourning for their sisters, mothers, and daughters. His story is intriguing and is one that I would like to tell.
Mass Murderers and Serial Killers are nothing new to today’s society. These vicious killers are all violent, brutal monsters and have an abnormal urge to kill. What gives people these urges to kill? What motivates them to keep killing? Do these killers get satisfaction from killing? Is there a difference between mass murderers and serial killers or are they the same. How do they choose their victims and what are some of their characteristics? These questions and many more are reasons why I was eager to write my paper on mass murderers and serial killers. With such a strikingly rare and glamorous story of a six year old beauty queen dead, who was a part of a “perfect American upper-middle class family”, combined with a lack of a lead and ever mounting suspicion piling up against the parents it was no surprise to find that it was fuel to the media and soon stories sold and became a matter of competition between the press. So, like wildfire, this heart-breaking story spread, stretching across the nation, shattering the souls of the world. News broadcasts, magazine and newspaper articles, and television specials all shaped and molded peoples perceptions of this beautiful child’s murder, especially her parents, John and Pasty Ramsey’s involvement or lack there of. At this moment Robert Violante must have asking himself why this was happening, what could cause someone to do something so atrocious? This paper examines issues related to the definition and study of serial murder. It probes the minds of some of the world's most infamous killers all the while asking the question WHY. It examines methodological issues such as problems with the FBI's so called serial murder profiling system: the fact that the serial killer stereotypes does not necessarily stand true. This paper argues that the killer is not the only one to blame for his/her actions. Together we will probe the minds of killers such as Charles Manson and John Wayne Gacy. Because the murder of Richard Malloy seemed to everyone to be a random criminal act, it came as a surprise to many when another male body, also shot several times was found in a wooded area of Citrus County, Fl not far from where Malloy’s body had been found barely six months prior. The victim was identified as 43 year old David Spears of Sarasota, Fl. His truck was soon discovered on Interstate 75, unlocked with the license plate missing. Around the same time, 30 miles south of Citrus county another naked body was discovered a short distance off of the Pasco county side of Interstate 75. The victims’ entire body was so decomposed that the medical examiners could not obtain any usable prints to use for identification. They did, however, find that the victim, later identified as Charles Carskaddon, had been shot nine times with a 22. During the next six months more male victims, with a total of eight, were killed and disposed of in similar ways, each somewhere around the Interstate 75 corridor.

Using Robert Pickton as a case study, this paper will explore the phenomenon of serial murder and apply research literature to help explain his behaviour and examine issues such as psychopathy, mental disorder, and substance abuse relevant to the Pickton case. In order to identify serial killers before they kill repeatedly, a person needs to study the characteristics that make up this type of criminal. Most serial killers have been abandoned, by one or both parents, they are emotionally, physically, and even sexually abused by a family member, or relatives from unstable families who have criminal, psychiatric and alcoholic histories, or tend to have hate for their parents and people in general which makes them have antisocial personality disorder. They have conflicted, pained, or tortured animals at a young age and most are highly interested in gaining control over things. Even though not every serial killer posses these characteristics, most share these characteristics the same way they share the psychological need to have complete control and power over people. Dennis Rader was one normal average citizen until he shocked the public when he was caught as a serial killer who caused tragedy in their town.
