What is a revolution? Revolution is defined, is the overthrow of one government with replacement of another. We are all familiar with the phrase “history repeats itself” over and over each in very different situations. The same can be said about the American and French Revolutions however these two revolutions end in very different situations. Both the American Revolution, (1775 -1783) and the French Revolution (1789 -1799) were the products of Enlightenment ideals that struck a large population of the people which emphasized the idea of natural rights and equality and led to many changes in society. It all ties together with the French Revolution and American Revolution in which people felt the need to be free from tyrannical rule.
The American and French revolutions compare and contrast in their origins and outcomes. To begin both revolutions occurred in the eighteenth century. The American Revolution was about the independence of the country. The people who planned this revolution were among the Capitalist middle class of society. Planning for their revolution was thought of for many years until they found the right time to spark it. They were always forced to fighting Britain's battles, and they wanted financial independence from the overpowering nation of Great Britain, all of which suppressed the growth of the American nation. On the other hand, the French revolution was an indirect result of the American Revolution. The French were trying to cause a true revolution they were not just fighting for freedom but instead they were fighting for human rights and to over throw and remove the monarchy; also they were struggling to gain social equality among the masses.

In the end they achieved completely the opposite as the American Revolution; the French Revolution resulted in changes such as democracy and nationalism, the defeat of feudalism, the Declaration of Rights of Man, which all present people live by that, and France gained religious tolerance. Since the end of the revolution France has had five different governments as oppose to America that has had the same one. Overall the American Revolution is considered the first significant revolution of the modern era, as it was the first to be successful one. Both two revolutions were repeated in time which proves that history in some cases does repeat itself. These two revolutions changed history throughout the world as we know it.
Revolution is one word that summarizes complete change. To put the name of a country before the word revolution means complete change in that country's government. In some way, whether it be politically, economically, or socially, the government failed to appease the people. In France and Latin America they stopped at virtually nothing to gain their goal. Latin America literally bit the hand the fed them and France beheaded their own king. This was all done in the name of reformation and change because somehow their government severely let down their people.

Politically, American conservatives respected the individual and property rights of a citizen, while French politics respected the individual rights, took property rights in some cases, and used terror to influence people. Economically, the American free market idea left the economy alone, while the French input socialist ideas such as price ceilings. Religiously, the America closely associated itself with religion in the revolution, while the French public mostly despised the church.
For starters, both revolutions were inspired by others. The French revolution was empowered by the American. News spread throughout the rest of the world that England’s American colony had overthrown their British government with a war. A period called "The Enlightenment" sparked the American Revolution. During this time, philosophers and lawmakers focused on basic human rights and creating a balanced government. Ideas from the Declaration of Independence which came from these philosophers, inspired the people of France to develop a sense of natural rights in French government. Since their current government gave the people very little natural rights, they rebelled.
According to Webster’s Online Dictionary, revolution is “a sudden, radical or complete change.” During the early settlement of the British colonies, settlers became so culturally different from those in Great Britain that they already seemed to be their own country. This is what John Adams meant in saying, “What do we mean by the Revolution? The war? That was no part of the Revolution; it was only an effect and consequence of it. The Revolution was in the minds of the people… years before a drop of blood was shed at Lexington.” In fact, the revolution began years before the colonists began to feel mistreated by the British. As they arrived in the new colonies, they noticed many major differences in the society and culture of this new place. As time went on, they learned about the colonies and the society there, and eventually, they evolved their cultures and lifestyles to comply with this new society. The primary changes the colonists the colonists made were in their economic system, their lifestyle, and their freedoms. In England, the economic system was primarily industrious, while in it was agriculture. In addition, the colonists, especially those in the south, relied very heavily on slave labor for agricultural purposes. In Great Britain, however, slavery did exist, but it was not relied upon for a functional society. The final change the settlers made in the New World was religion. In Great Britain, the king forced everyone to join the Church of England and leave the Roman Catholic Church. When in the colonies, settlers could go back to whatever religion they desired, so colonial religion was extremely diverse. Therefore, three main changes or “Revolutions”
The French revolution may not seem like it did much for the world, but in reality it helped mold a lot of nations into what they are today. The French revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799. The revolution started off small but quickly changed into a major thing. Some important things in the revolution are its people, battles, and how it affected the nations that we have today.
Another aspect to keep in mind when comparing the French and American revolutions is provocation. Provocation includes such things as land war, class war, tyranny, and grievances. The American Revolution had many altercations with social classes and land. One reason the revolution began was because the British created the Proclamation of 1763, which stated that Americans couldn't move east of the Appalachian Mountains. Land was abundant in America, but the British were tired of battles amongst themselves and the Native Americans.
What is a revolution? By definition it means the overthrow of a government by those who are governed. That is exactly what the French and the Mexican revolutions were all about. The living conditions and overall treatment of the poor, pheasants, lower class, last man on the totem pole or what ever you want to call them, was a large factor in the coming of these revolutions. "Those who are governed" are exactly what the lower class people were. Also, liberty was one of the people's major concerns. They were ruled by men whose only desire was power and greed which is what led them into revolt.
The American Revolution was the beginning of the revolutionary era, and Americans were seen as rebels for causing such an ordeal, that is until they were successful in defeating the British and establishing themselves as an independent country. Then in 1789 France, the leading and most influential country in Europe became the newest revolutionary nation.
In history, there has been many revolutions. Most revolutions lead to another, they often occur in sequence. An example of a revolution that led to another is the Seven Years war also known as the French and Indian war. This war or revolution as I like to say led to the American Revolution, which later on led the French Revolution. The seven years’ war and American Revolution played a big role in the development of the French revolution. The primary cause of the French Revolution was the growing concern over the absolute power of the monarchy that excluded the middle and lower classes from have a say in the government. The American Revolution and French Revolution were two long lasting uprisings that had great value to those battling for their rights and want they wanted to change. Yet there are a few distinctions details set them apart in a small way. The Americans wanted a change in their government, but the French wanted a huge change in everything including their government, religion, social structure (whereas American’s social system stayed the same) and economy. Other than the few differences they had, they two Revolutions were much alike, basically twin revolutions.
French revolution, a greatest event of modern times which left France and other countries shocked because of its huge effect. It influenced the whole human society and gave a message of liberty, equality and fraternity. French revolution was a movement which took place in 1789 till 1799; it was a violent and bloody revolt that caused a lot of brutal events in the history such as the execution of King Louis the XV1 and his wife Marie Antoinette. It also destroyed the whole generation of the king’s family as his youngest son suffered and died, his daughter lived a brutal life. The French revolution launched a region of terror that killed thousands of people and inspired almost all European countries like Italy and Russia. It was to throw down monarchy and government an d bring republic. The causes that formed French revolution were the differences between the three social classes (first estate clergy, the second nobility and the third commoners), the injustice in tax for instance the third estate had to pay a lot of tax while the first and the second estate paid low or none. The prices on the bread were so high that a minimum wages person could not afford and had to survive without food. France most of the population was the commoners but still they were discriminated and owned less land. The other causes were the weak government, crises, leaders, ideology and discontent in France. People also thought that everything that happened in France was because of Marie Antoinette (King Louis the XV1) as she was a foreigner from Austria and also they thought she was a lesbian type as her relationship with women was weird. Revolution is briefly described as an attempt to overthrow a government to start a new one. The American Revolution took place between 1775 and 1783 and was a fight for American Independence from England. In 1764, the first of many “Intolerable Acts” were passed. The British Parliament began to excise tax on the American colonies without representation, sparking the great conflict. The British were continuing to incorporate new ways to make more money. England was the most powerful country at the time with an intimidating military, so this wasn’t a hard task to complete. The American Revolution was very Revolutionary because, it jump started the abolition of slavery, it brought about many political and social advances, and served as a stepping stone towards a democracy and a strong centralized government.
Now, even though they started out similarly, they also did have some differences from each other. The American Revolution was the first significant revolution of the century, and it was also the first to be successful. The main reason it was successful was that it did not start out being “rebellious” in nature, but rather conservative. In another words, it was not a rebellion against the Government, but rather against having too much government controlling them. Throughout history there have been many important revolutions that have help to shape society as it is today. There are different causes, from political to religious, economic to social. Any revolution affects those in society, and creates changes for the people in the society. There are three important revolutions that took place in the late 18th century that changed the world for the better. The French Revolution, the American Revolution, and the Industrial Revolution all took place in the late 1700s. Although each had a different purpose, they all lead to a better way of life for many. The French and American Revolutions are examples of some which are brought about and enforced solely by the people. Although they had different reasons behind them, both had the same idea behind them- social change. The Industrial Revolution was different, it was a technological revolution which had positive social outcomes. While one can easily compare the French and American Revolutions because of their social causes and outcomes, the Industrial Revolution can only be compared to the other two when examining their outcomes.
The French Revolution, which occurred from 1789 to 1799, was a time where the monarchy was overthrown, a republic was formed, and limits were put on the church. The French Revolution ended with the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1799. The French Revolution created France’s legislative assembly, which is still in place today. Many would argue that the Enlightment was a cause of the French Revolution, but the Enlightment was not one of the main drivers for the Revolution. The bad living conditions, France’s monarchy, and the involvement in the American Revolution and other wars caused the French Revolution.
