There are not many movies that have been produced that consider the nature of beauty and inner self, while still having an emotive storyline, the film Cyrano de Bergerac is one of them. The tangled relationships of Roxane, Cyrano and Christian, along with many minor characters of the film, explore what is most important and what truly prevails in love. Even though at the end of the film you are left with a melancholy feeling brought up by the fact that the main characters quite literally lose everything, you still find that it has given the viewer a message. A message saying that you will not get what you want if you don’t try or if you stay quiet, even if you are rejected at least you tried.

In conclusion, I liked this movie because it showed women of very different backgrounds coming together, accepting each other, and becoming close friends during a crisis moment. In reality of today’s society, I saw that women are jealous against each other instead of working together. This movie shows the joy of overcoming differences and forming bonds with diverse women. In a very simple term, the director reminds us of the unique book of life that we each have. The other message is how the older are separate from society, because of their limitations and age. The older ladies in this movie shows us and other older people how to bloom again, and relive. In this movie they share their life, their tales, and their lessons from the past with us to change our typical mentality about older people.

As the play opens, there is much merrymaking and festivity in preparation for the play. The sheer happiness of all of the colorful characters is transferred to the reader almost instantly. One of Cyrano’s most significant traits as a friend was his loyalty. He would always look out for friends in their time of need, which makes the audience feel sympathetic towards him. Because Cyrano is such a loyal friend, the audience feels angry with Roxane for manipulating him, and taking advantage of his loyalty. An example of Cyrano’s loyalty was when Ragueneau’s wife was having an affair with a musketeer, Cyrano confronted her, “Make sure you do./I like your husband, and I don’t intend/To see him made a fool of./Is that clear?”(II.iv.115-118). In the beginning these two worlds are kept apart until Cyrano devises a way to bridge the two together. He discovers that the woman he loves, Roxanne is in love with a man named Christian. When he tells Christian that Roxanne has feelings for him, he reveals to Cyrano that he may have good looks, but a terrible way with words. Cyrano replies with "strange.... Now it seems I, if I gave my mind to it, I might perhaps make love well."..... "Borrow it then! - Your young manhood - lend me that, and we two make one hero of romance." (p. 84-85)
Few words can be more humorous, or more upsetting, than a well thought out and witty phrase. The only skill that matches Cyrano’s skill with a sword, is his skill with his tongue. With a wit unmatched by any poet, Cyrano made enemies wherever he went, simply by out-smarting all who came against him. In the first act of the play, Cyrano crashes a performance of the well-known actor Montfluery. After many insults, Cyrano heaps upon them by saying, “I would never venture out in public with a soiled conscience, a tarnished honor, or scruples grimy and dull. I do not adorn myself with gems and ribbons, like you. Instead, I decorate myself with truth, independence, and a clean soul.”
This is emphasized when Roxanne realizes that Cyrano was the one who had written these letters after many years. He denies that it was him because he does not want to tarnish her memory of Christian. Conversely Christian decides to talk to Roxane without any of the poetic letters that Cyrano has been giving him. Christian has no other words to say than, “ I love you” (102). Christian does not have the same ability to woo her as Cyrano has. So then come Cyrano for the rescue and he says, “ Let us try what can be done; It is more than you deserve—stand over there, Idiot—there! —before the balcony—Let me stand underneath. I’ll whisper you what to say” (104). Cyrano helps Christian, being useful the setting in the Balcony, the darkness and Cyrano hiding and telling Christian what to say sets up the appearance for Christian. Cyrano’s poetic language saves Christian from getting rejected from Roxane; Cyrano saved their relationship.
While reading Cyrano de Bergerac, I found myself often wondering whether or not Cyrano had led a happy life. Actually, I never once wondered that, but that is irrelevant, because Cyrano’s happiness is the focus of this essay. Was he happy? Truth be told, I cannot say for sure. If we look upon his life, it would seem that he was a bit of a martyr, always sacrificing his happiness for the sake of others. This is probably the case, but I do not believe that he led his life with his happiness as any sort of goal. That will be a defining case in my argument. What I really believe is that he simply did not care about his happiness. In that sense, he did not so much sacrifice it, as he annexed and divided it when he saw fit. To a further extent, this apathy towards himself probably came from a low self-worth, almost certainly spawned not from his elephantine nose, but the fair maiden Roxanne. Finally, the nose itself, the very icon of de Bergerac, was probably not the problem that Cyrano believed it to be. All of this, however obscure it may seem, is crucial to the question posed of me now.
Cyrano has unknowingly created a sort of psychological trap in which women are kept on the outside and men are free to roam within.
