Watching the World change: The Stories Behind the Images of 9/11 by David Friend,is not only tell the stories about 9/11 event, but explores the process of news gathering and reporting. September 11 attacks is one of most serious terrorist activity in world history, which causes 2996 people died and imponderable finance loss. It is also one of the most universally researched and watched news events in human history. The author use hundreds of relevant stories tells us what happened behind these news imagines, where these photographers were, how they take those photos. By viewing these images, Friend brings us to experience the activities of the photographer, rescuers, victims and survivors. It can be easily noticed how citizen play an active role in news reporting, especially the process of collecting. He also shows and partly comments how media especially digital technologies transmit information immediately and produce such a wildly-viewed effect in all over the world. There are more than two billion people see the horrible terrorist activities as they happened.
Excluded the introduction chapter, this book conveniently consists of seven chapter which is the seven days after 9/11. Friend use photos to narrate a lot of stories happen after the September 9 attack and attempt to chart the role of these photos in the seven-day period. Based on the event happened time and published date of these imagines, the author separated these stories into seven chapters.

In the era which digital cameras and cellphones were not ubiquitous but starting to become popularize. History was recorded by a really different means. Nowadays, social networking made the news transform more rapidly, citizen participate news reporting more actively. Those phenomenon discussed in this book achieved deeply development, digital era is coming. Totally, Watching the World change: The Stories Behind the Images of 9/11 is a remarkable document to observe the September 11 event and media. It is also a memorial to help us remember those victims, those stories and those heroes in the past time.
