The Renaissance
The purpose of this is to inform you on how Andreas Vesalius changed our lives and also changed the world. He was a part of the Renaissance and helped change the face of this planet for the better.
The Renaissance was a time period between the end of the 14th to mid 16th century. It’s name came from the french word “Renaissance” which meant “rebirth”. During this time people started asking themselves why, and started to realize that they could think independently. Also the people’s decisions weren’t as influenced by religion, or in most cases the church. This movement was started by humanistic thoughts spread everywhere by protestants who wanted to split away from the church. Soon enough people started to embrace this idea and it continued to spread at a rapid pace.
Being a Renaissance man/woman is a very special thing. The literal definition is a man or woman who is skilled and knowledgeable in many fields. There is much more to that though. Filling out the frame of the painting, the king’s head and neck look too small on the full body, conveying the idea of manliness and strength. What does the word “renaissance” mean? It means “rebirth” or “revival” and the Renaissance was a period of change that began around 1350 to 1700. Before the Renaissance, there was the Middle Ages which people had little education and were more religious. Then, in the 1300s there was a movement called humanism which made people more educated and drew them into arts, literature, science, and medicine in the Renaissance. The term “renaissance man” describes an individual who excels in numerous areas and can do many things extremely well. Today, this description lends itself to both men and women who are both scholars and athletes, creative and industrious, and generally highly successful in all they do. While many modern “renaissance individuals” go quietly about their lives being exceptional yet unnoticed, the first renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci, made quite a stir and caught the attention and imagination of the fifteenth century world. In his own time, Da Vinci was a renowned artist, scientist and inventor who was celebrated by thinkers, artists and kings alike. And although he lived and worked more than six-hundred years ago, Da Vinci’s artistic and scientific genius continue to inspire and amaze.
The definition of a Renaissance man or woman is a person that is talented in many fields and is held in regard with a group of elites who also share mutual talents. An example of a Renaissance man is someone who can create prestige paintings and also create life like statues from stone. A well-known renaissance man is Leonardo da Vinci, he was credited with creating histories first prototypes of planes and other inventions that were well ahead of his time. On top of that he was also a painter, architect, and student of all things scientific. The renaissance is one of the most culturally, religiously, and artistically inventive periods in the history of mankind. From giant sculptures carved to perfection to literary works of art that induced deep thinking, the renaissance demonstrated that man’s view of itself was expeditiously becoming refined. Many of the most influential people in history, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Raphael, and Dante lived during the time of the great reinvention of Italian society. The renaissance altered the way education, art, and innovation were perceived and forever changed the thinking of the common man.
As previously stated, the renaissance was the rebirth of society. What led to this was a decrease in faith because of the great schism, a conflict between two popes, where both said they were the pope. People were starting to take a secular view compared to what the church told them to believe. Society was changing to where individual viewpoints mattered. With politics starting to matter, and a better economy, places were beginning to be city centered, specifically city states, which are urban societies that have taken secular views.

The Renaissance period of history occurred during the 15th and 16th centuries. Renaissance in its basic definition means rebirth. According to Merriam Webster, renaissance formally means, “a movement or period of vigorous artistic and intellectual activity” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary). Renaissance is the title given to the period of great change in music and art. The Renaissance period ushered in a culture of music that the public could enjoy. Most importantly it was a period that encouraged musicians and composers to create music and take risks with voices, instruments and notes.
The period of the Renaissance echoed with the glory of individual efforts and human achievements. Literary scholars, strongly emphasized about the human potential in obtaining “excellence” in all aspects of life and encouraged people to shape their own destiny through their actions (Sherman 293). Since the Renaissance was inspired by the enthusiasm to rediscover the spirit of the Greco-Roman culture, people sought to emulate everything from art to politics of the classical antiquity.

The Renaissance was a time of change. It began in Italy during the 14th century, and spread throughout the North. People all over Europe were affected, for the better and for the worse. Some people finally had a chance to control their own fate. Others, like upper class women, lost their social status.
