Introduction The approach in this essay will be to dip into some firsthand experience of an online learning course in the accountancy sector. A number of models around the delivery of professional accountancy courses were experienced over a number of years. The essay will critically examine one case in particular, discussing and assessing the learning environment while also critically evaluating standards and best practice. The Learning Environment Case Study My first experience of a comprehensive online learning course was while undertaking a repeat taxation course with a private college for one of the larger accountancy bodies a number of years ago. The approach was new and it was a change from the prior semester lectures undertaken through the onsite part time evening and weekend course from February to June. There was a long revision weekend (Friday to Sunday) and mock exam in May, followed by final exam in June. The repeat course (September to December) was delivered through online lectures and distance learning for a reduced fee (in parallel to the standard course but starting two weeks later) finishing with the same revision process. One would assume the idea was that as students were somewhat familiar with the topic first time around, they could cherry pick online lectures to log on to, as well as reduce attendance numbers onsite and course costs. There was a brief introductory onsite face to face tutorial where we collected our materials comprising a combination of books, questions and sample answer bank. We were then given a demonstration on Moodle, shown where to find materials followed by question and answer session. The past two decades have seen an almost exponential rise in the availability and popularity of online college classes and degree programs. Their pervasiveness begs the question as to the difference in a credit or degree earned in an online setting versus that of the traditional classroom. These two educational delivery systems will be compared from the perspectives of flexibility, the student experience, the impact of technology, and the issue of acceptability of online classes and degree programs.
In the past a typical classroom was completely teacher-directed and contained the usual materials consisting of a chalkboard, textbooks, pencil, and paper. However, over the past decade that has drastically changed. Now days, most classrooms are equipped with multiple computers, projectors, ActiveBoards, document cameras, and teachers have access to mobile labs, iPads, and much more. Technology, which was once thought to make teaching easier for teachers, is now being used primarily by students as a way to increase their level of achievement. Research has shown, “the power of simultaneous, multiple modes of input to gain and hold a person's attention and to improve memory”, which is exactly where technology comes into play. (Silver-Pacuilla & Fleischman, 2006).

There are also many conveniences and benefits to taking an online class over a traditional, face-to-face class. Many students benefit logistically, financially, and from the course structure itself. Online classes provide the student with more opportunities to be successful in their coursework. Online courses can be completed based on the student's own schedule, provide for faster and less nervous interactions with instructors, and in many cases, are more educationally beneficial setting alternatives to traditional, face-to-face classes. In fact, Sixty-seven percent of academic professionals evaluated online courses as equivalent to as or better than face-to-face courses (Lytle).

Is it practical or mainly theoretical? Those were my exact sentiments when I realised I was enrolled to study developing the professional. This learning experience has enabled me develop academically, professionally and personally. so much that I did not expect before I attended this module. I was amazed by my progress in both academic and individual aspect; however, there is still room for my further growth . Today’s generation is like no other. The nation as a whole has completely evolved from past times, with technology being one of the greatest improvements. Traditionally, schooling takes place in a classroom setting, but, with the many modifications in our world’s system, we are able to assimilate more modern means of education, such as online learning. The demand for it led educational organizations to adopt it. The revolution of technology facilitated implementing it. Its convenience, flexibility, and other advantages made it a favorable learning form. Abstract: Recently, there has been a rush to create web-based instructional courses. The approach that is being taken to create web-based courses is to create websites that will function as the central distributors of information and materials. Based on the format and content of the course, the student is to go through lesson by lesson to complete courses.
