¬¬As of today, the modern society believes that the idea of racism has little impact on humanity. However, the use of segregation can trigger a variety of issues in the society. The idea of racism has produced a variety of challenges for the past society, and is now affecting the present society.
The Ku Klux Klan was a major factor in carrying the idea of racism. The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was a secret organization that developed in the South after the Civil War of the 1860s.The organization would use violence and terror to frighten the freed African Americans and prevent them from taking advantage of their newly given rights, particularly the right to vote. Members from the secret organization would disguise themselves in white robes and hoods. The organization was short-lived due to the response of the federal legislation, who were able to destroy the organization and provide greater protection for African Americans and their rights.
The Harlem is a famous neighborhood in New York City. The district is a primary center for political activity and cultural upbringing for African Americans. The neighborhood was originally a Dutch Village, organized in 1968. The district is named after a city in the Netherlands whose name is Haarlem. During the Great Migration, many African Americans began to inhabit the neighborhood in order to escape segregation.
Black Power is a term that was used to imply that African Americans should establish their own political, cultural and social institutions that are independent from the white society. The movement was well-known in the late 1960s and early 1970s.Black power expresses Black Nationalism, which is the rejection of fear from white presence. Many whites dreaded the movement after Black Panthers began to use the movement as their militant organization.
Black Panther is a 10-point program that was created in Oakland, California. The program was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. The organization insisted freedom, full employment, reasonable living conditions, and proper education for all African Americans. They also wanted to put an end to capitalist exploitation, police brutality, and the release of innocent African Americans from jail. In order to achieve their goals, members of the organization would arm themselves with rifles, wear combat jackets, paraded militia-style, raised clenched fist and holler,” Power to the people”. After the program was constantly being harassed by the police and other internal problems, the organization gradually began to fall apart causing them to lose popular support.
The Party’s fight for redistribution of wealth and the establishment of social, political and social equality across gender and color barriers made it one of the first organizations in U.S. history to militantly struggle for working class liberation and ethnic minorities (Baggins, Brian). The Black Panther Party set up a ten-point program much like Malcolm X’s Nation of Islam that called for American society to realize political, economic and social equal opportunity based on the principles of socialism, all of which was summarized by the final point: "We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace" (Newton, Huey P). The society we live in today face challenges that we have never faced before. Many people have the opportunity of attending schools, when back in the face the possibilities were very slim. Nearly all of the problems the Black Panther Party attacked are the direct descendants of the system which enslaved Blacks for hundreds of years. Although they were given freedom roughly one hundred years before the arrival of the Party, Blacks remain victims of White racism in much the same way. They are still the target of White violence, regulated to indecent housing, remain highly uneducated and hold the lowest position of the economic ladder. The continuance of these problems has had a nearly catastrophic effect on Blacks and Black families. Brown remembers that she “had heard of Black men-men who were loving fathers and caring husbands and strong protectors.. but had not known any” until she was grown (105). The problems which disproportionatly affect Blacks were combatted by the Party in ways the White system had not. The Party “organized rallies around police brutality against Blacks, made speeches and circulated leaflets about every social and political issue affecting Black and poor people, locally, nationally, and internationally, organized support among Whites, opened a free clinic, started a busing-to prisons program which provided transport and expenses to Black families” (181). The Party’s goals were to strengthen Black communities through organization and education.
The Black Panther had a huge background of history, goals, and beliefs. Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale in Oakland, Ca 1966, founded the Panthers. They were originally as an African American self defense force and were highly influenced by Malcolm X’s ideas. They were named after Lowndes County Freedom Organization or LCFO. The Panthers had many goals like; giving back to the ghetto, protecting blacks from police brutality, and to help blacks get freedom and jobs. They also had many beliefs like; Malcolm X was a great person, and they believed that gun use was ok if necessary, or if people were oppressing the poor.

Today, thanks to their fight for civil rights, extreme risks, and development of social needs, people around the world can enjoy some of their modifications, such as free breakfast programs. The formation and movements of the Black Panther Party were directed by the F.B.I, who sought to bring every party member down; as well as their radical alliances, such as The Resistance, (which kindled the rebirth of the party during hard times), and the brave women who joined the party, such as Afeni Shakur, stood up for their rights in a time in which Americas looked down on women as less than equals helped their cause.

“Black Power”, the word alone raises an abundance of controversial issues. Black power was a civil rights movement led by the black panthers which addressed several issues including segregation and racism. Black power had a different meaning to every member of the Mc Bride family, Ruth and James both looked at black power from a different angle. In “The Color of Water”, The author James Mc Bride admired the black panthers at first, but slowly he grew afraid of them after fearing the consequences his mother might face for being a white woman in a black community influenced by black power. James’ worries were baseless, black power’s motive was to educate and improve African American communities not to create havoc or to harm members of the white community.
The neighborhood of Harlem in northern-Manhattan was intended to be an upper-class white neighborhood. But, rapid overdevelopment created a problem of too many empty buildings. As the landlords became desperate to fill in the buildings a movement was started. In the early 1900s, multiple middle-class African Americans found themselves moving into this neighborhood as it became affordable. Soon after, outside factors, such as natural disasters, found more and more African Americans moving into the neighborhood.
The Black Panther Movement made a progressive contribution to the US and civil rights. In order for a person to understand what the Civil Rights movement was, they would need to understand what political movements were involved, that made a big impact on the Black Community. What was the Civil Rights movement? The Civil Rights movement lasted from the late 1960s and early 1970s. But, the Civil Rights was not born during that time. When Abraham Lincoln was President, he had signed an agreement named the Emancipation Proclamation. This Proclamation was addressed to emancipate all of the slaves that were written on paper. If they were to leave their job as a slave they would have had no where to go and no money, so they still worked for their previous slave owners to get paid and have a life of their own. Other than Abraham Lincoln, who practically saved the black race, there were many others who were involved in the civil rights. They themselves created their own movement inside the civil rights to help give the black community freedom of speech and to stop the government from what the black community thought was racist.
The Black Panther Party was founded on October, 15, 1966 by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in Oakland, California. This organization was a black revolutionary socialist party that was created to primarily protect African American neighborhoods from violent police brutality. In 1967, the party released and circulated its first newspaper, The Black Panther. Within the same year the organization also protested a ban on weapons in Sacramento on the California State Capitol. After becoming an icon of the 1960's counterculture, the Party was see in numerous cities throughout the nation, with record membership at 10,000 in 1969. Editor of The Black Panther, Eldridge Cleaver and his editorial committee created a document called the Ten-Point Program. This document was comprised of desired wants and needs for the black community, such as; freedom, employment, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace. The Black Panthers expressed their injustices with their saying of, "What we Want, What we Believe". Not only did this document demand specific wants for the panthers, it was also a sign of hope and inspiration for the underprivileged blacks that lived in ghettos across the nation. With a strong passion to turn around the poor black communities, the Panthers installed a variety of community social programs that were made to improve several aspects of the inner city ghettos. Two of their most commonly known programs were its Free Breakfast for children program and its armed citizens patrol that made sure police officers behaved within their limit of power and to protect blacks who became victims of racist police brutality abuse.
