Numerous police officers humiliate, castigate, and abuse people based on a particular profile. Police are obligated “To protect and serve,” but how is arresting, beating, and even killing innocent people protecting anyone? Those from other countries who come to America legally deserve to be protected. Simply because someone is from a different country, culture, or race does not mean one has the right to judge and ridicule them. Diversity should be embraced rather than criminalized. Racial profiling by police officers must stop before more innocent people are arrested or killed.

There have been many cases of African Americans being pulled over by law enforcers, just for being a black man in a white neighborhood. According to Janet Chan’s research, “it is clear that, given the power and discretion available to police, the experience of being subject to racial profiling can lead both to a feeling of being harassed and to a sense of alienation from the legal system and the wider society” (Glover 2008) (Chan).
