About two weeks ago, Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team, was found to be making racial comments to one of his mistresses about a picture she posted on a social media network called Instagram. Sterling also has a wife. In this picture was Sterling’s mistress, V. Stiviano, posing with a basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson at a Clippers game. Sterling found out about the picture by somebody calling him and informing him the Stiviano posted it, which infuriated him. Sterling then talked about it with Stiviano in a rage, which she recorded and later released to TMZ. In the recording, Sterling says many racial slurs regarding not only African Americans, but also minorities in general. There were many effects to this tape being brought to light, but the most important is the punishment Sterling received by the NBA commissioner. The NBA commissioner, “Adam Silver detailed Sterling's punishment of a lifetime ban and $2.5 million fine -- the "maximum amount" allowed per league guidelines -- at a press conference eight hours before Sterling's Clippers were to tip off in the fifth game of a tightly contested first-round playoff series with the Golden State Warriors” (www.cnn.com). The harsh punishment Sterling received reflects the strict enforcement that racism in the NBA will not be tolerated.
There are many problems with the comments that Sterling made. The entire NBA is affected, all of the spectators, and the whole nation. The statements that Sterling made are proof that racism is still alive in negligent people. As I listened to the recording, I was blown away at the statements Sterling was making when the majority of the people associated with the Los Angeles Clippers are African American, ...

One of the major stands that were made during a black athlete’s tenure during his or her sport were their statements on racism. Racism in America was an ongoing situation in the 1900’s that seemed to have no resolve before black athletes took a stand. One prime example can be Jackie Robinson who became the first African-American athlete to play baseball in the modern era. Jackie grew up in one of the most racist towns in Pasadena, California and came from a poor family as his parents were sharecroppers and...

I had been to Staples Center before for a handful of Lakers games but never had I been to a Clipper game. I was very interested in seeing how different Staples would look and the culture it would create being at a Clipper game compared to Lakers game event though they play at the same venue. Upon walking up to Staples Center I notice a couple things that are already different. There is a billboard with the title Clipper Nation: Rise. There are also a handful of fans that are wearing Lakers jerseys. To me this was interesting to see because people in LA have created this culture surrounding the Lakers that they are clearly LA’s team and the Clippers are just the other team that plays at Staples Center. However this year with the advertisement done not only before the game outside of the arena but also inside the arena during the game to promote this new rise in Clipper basketball. They are the new young energetic team led by the human highlight reel Blake Griffin.
In the article “Jeremy Lin Oped” he was discriminated in his basketball for being Asian-American. “people would openly call me hurtful racial slurs like “chink” and “gook” or even ask me if I could see the scoreboard with my eyes.” Jeremy was discriminated because of his race. They made fun of his differences, and differences makes us different. No one should make fun of our differences, those

Today in America the word Racism is taken to a whole new level. Even in sports, such as the NFL racism prospers. For instance the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. Native Americans are trying to say the NFL is being rude for naming a Team Redskins. The Redskins have had that name since 1933 (Staff). The team had the name of Braves before they adopted the name Redskins. It was changed due to racism purposes. Some people would agree that the whole situation with Redskins is ridiculous because The Major League Baseball series has two teams related to Native Americans, The Atlanta Braves and The Cleveland Indians. The NFL also has more than just Redskins. They have the Kansas City Chiefs. So if they are really worried about total racism why isn’t the Chiefs in on this conversation?

He stated, "Yeah, it bothers me a lot that you want to promote-broadcast that you're associating with black people. Do you have to (Sterling)?" He also complained, "But why publicize it on the Instagram and why bring it to my games (Sterling)? " After the release of the recordings, the NBA community was in an uproar. In protest, the players of the Clippers wore their training jerseys inside out (Moore).
Dealing with the issue of sport and ethnology, three major factors come to mind; prejudice, racism, and discrimination. These factors span across gender, ethnic, racial, religious, and cultural groups. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss how these factors have played a part in the evolution of sport in our society. The first issue tackled in this paper will be racism in sports, followed by prejudice and discrimination.
Even though many organizations claim to be about equality and respect for their players and even their spectators—of color. It becomes evident that respect and equality is not the priority of the organization, which are headed by majority White males. For example, in 2014, the Atlanta Hawks, a sport organization with a roster majority of young Black men and its fans being nearly 70 percent Black came under criticism and investigation for racist comments made via email and phone conference. The racist comments that were made were by former Hawks owner, Bruce Levenson, and Hawks GM, Danny Ferry; Both White men. Both Levenson and Ferry were involved in two race controversies. Former Atlanta Hawks’ owner Bruce Levenson sent out an email to other Hawks CEOs stating that the audience and it entertainment (the team, cheerleaders, halftime talent, music selection, etc.) are all Black. Levenson continued to say in his email that because the audience and entertainment were majority Black, it was scaring aware White fans and investors from coming to the games (Joesph, 2014, USA Today. On the other hand, Hawks’ GM Danny Ferry was recorded during a conference call making defamatory remakes about free agent, at the time, Luol Deng who the Hawks were trying to acquire. During the call, Ferry professes that “ ‘[Deng] has a little African in him’ ”(ESPN.com). In the
