In everyday life Lindsey Vonn gets to experience thrills, chills, and she uses her remarkable
skills to become a greater athlete. Born in Minnesota and raised in Colorado, she has been skiing
all of her life. At the age of two she was in a pair of skis and has continued to progress. (Lindsey
Vonn, 2 of 4) I intend to describe the exciting life of Olympic athlete, Lindsey Vonn.
On October 18, 1984 a future Olympian was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. She began
skiing at age two. Her father Alan was her main coach. They moved to Colorado so that she could
ski on world-class slopes. All of her training paid off because she became the first United States
(U.S.) female to win the prestigious Trofeo Topolino youth competition in Italy. She went on

Lindsey Vonn made her debut at the 2002 Salt Lake Games at age seventeen. She began
to progress from there, winning two World Cup titles in 2008 and 2009. She also won two

The athlete I chose is Natasha Watley. She is a professional softball player and the first African-American female to play on the USA softball team in the Olympics. She’s a former collegiate 4-time First Team All-American who played for the UCLA Bruins, the USA Softball Women’s National Team, and for the USSSA Pride. She helped the Bruins will multiple championships and also holds numerous records and one of the few players to bat at least .400 with 300 hits, 200 runs, and 100 stolen bases. She’s also the career hits leader in the National Pro Fast pitch. She won the gold medal in the 2004 summer Olympics and a silver in the Beijing Olympics. She was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
Alex is an American soccer player Olympic gold medalist. She also took a championship win for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2008. Her goal against England was her 50th goal of her international career while becoming the 10th WNT player reaching the Mile Stone.
She is a remarkable role model for girls everywhere wanting to play basketball. She started
Florence Griffith Joyner was born December 21, 1959, in Los Angeles, CA. Known as the World's Fastest Woman for her standing World Record times in the 100 and 200 meter events, Florence Griffith Joyner, elevated women's track to a new level with her three gold and one silver medal-winning performances in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea. Growing up in Los Angeles, Joyner's career was launched in 1964, at age five, when Joyner's father challenged her to catch a jack rabbit, the fastest creature on the sand of the Mojave Desert. She was determined to meet the goal and she did.
Gertrude Ederle was born in New York City on October 23, 1905. She was one of five children of Henry and Anna Ederle, German immigrants who owned a butcher shop on Manhattan's Upper West Side. From a young age she was passionate about swimming, which she learned at the local public pool and at the New Jersey beach where her family spent summers. As a kid she left school to practice as an athletic swimmer. Later she joined the Women’s Swimming Association. She had her first win at the age of 16, between 1921 and 1925 holding 29 records. Ederle swam at the Olympic Games in Paris, where her freestyle team won three straight medals. In 1925, she began training to swim across live television. Twenty-one miles of water between England and the European mainland. Other men swimmers had already crossed the channel but she was trying to be the first woman to ever achieve the goal.
Kelli White was born on April 1, 1977 in Oakland California to parents who were both sprinters. She attended high school in Union City, California and ran track. She was 12 when Remi Korchemny became her coach (Plitt). She would reunite with him after graduating college (Plitt). When Kelli White was 17, she was attacked and cut by a knife. Even though her injury required more than 300 stitches, she continued to run that year (Plitt). When White graduated in 1995, she held the record in the 200 meter dash and had the second best time in the 100 meter dash in the North Coast Section. She went to the University of Tennessee on a scholarship and graduated in 1999 (Plitt).
Ekaterina Gordeeva was born in Moscow, Soviet Union, and grew up on the ice. From the time she was four years old to this day, she has been figure skating. At just eleven years old, Gordeeva was paired with fifteen-year-old Sergei Grinkov. Together they will have become one of the most talented pairs skaters in history.
Gabby Douglas was the first African-American female gymnast in Olympic history to become the individual All-Around champion. In the 2012 Olympic Games, she won gold in the team competition and the individual competition. She is a gymnastics phenom. From the beginning of her career to where she is today, she has been a true trooper through everything. Gabrielle Douglas is an inspiration to me and many others because she overcame being homeless,moved in with a new family, and won Olympic gold in gymnastics.
While there is little diversity in many sports, gymnastics is starting to make giant leaps toward multi-racial integration. Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles are creating waves in the gymnastics community, sparking national pride with each gold medal. They are leading the fight against racism in gymnastics by proving that they are just as good, if not better than the traditional gymnasts due to their hard work and persistence, combined with raw talent. They are inspiring girls everywhere to follow their dreams, no matter what obstacles get in the way. They are the American heroes who made gymnast history.
