Essential Question: What are solutions that can end puppy mills?

Puppy mills are mass breeding facilities that show little to no care for animals. They are created so companies can breed animals to make purebreds. The animals are not well taken care of and many of them die from either disease or giving birth too many times in their life span. There should be laws and guidelines to regulate the operation of puppy mill facilities. Puppy mills bring torture to animals and need to be stopped.
Puppy mill breeding causes many health problems for the animals involved. Many dogs have illnesses and diseases because of the environment around them. Many puppy mill operators fail to remove sick dogs from the breeding area and cause other animals to become infected as well. There are many diseases dogs while being in puppy mills. Some of theses diseases are heart disease, kidney disease, endocrine disorders, respiratory disorders and many more. The puppies created often arrive in pet stores and homes with diseases as well. According to a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania Medicine, it has been proven dogs bred in puppy mills are unable to demonstrate impaired health. Animals from puppy mills show uncontrollable abnormal behavioral characteristics that causes fear easily. (Hawaiian Humane Society) Animals in puppy mills are not bred for the quality of the animal created but for the quantity of it. Many of the animals not only gain defects but can also be handed the defect from generation to generation. (PETA) In many of the puppy mills, animals are placed in small cages with very little room to move around because there is multiple dogs with them.
