It was a calm evening, when Debbie received the life changing phone call from Bianca asking if she could come over to her house. She parked up outside Debbie’s house in a black Cadillac with two older men, Mark and Mathew, saying she could only stay a little while. Later in the evening, Debbie walked Bianca out, only to find herself tied up in the car seconds later. She was told that if she screamed or fidgeted she would be shot, so she sat still with her heart thumping in her chest. Hours later she was led to an apartment and opened her eyes to be greeted by her captors both pointing a gun at her. She was asked where she would prefer to be shot, in the head, chest or genitals. After hearing a gunshot, and realizing she was still alive, she was mortified with the sound of laughter coming from Mark and Mathew. Not clear of what was happening to her, she accounts being drugged, stripped bare and then brutally beaten. A group of men then entered the room and she was gang-raped. Seconds after this was over, the no longer virgin Debbie was led into the hallway to greet an older man who re...

Many argue that prostitution is along the same line as any other business transaction considering similar actions taken to go through the process. I will argue that performing a consensual or nonconsensual sexual act including a transfer of money cannot be considered as one. In this essay, I will be focusing on women in the Canadian sex trade and how the service they provide is not a legitimate purchase. There are several factors to assist this argument that include the facts and terminology behind businesses, transactions, employment, legality, and the act being performed. The process for an individual to acquire a prostitute contains a transaction through an exchange of money, but is it a business transaction, no.
During the late eighteenth century, particularly 1770s through 1790s, the common woman of London, England had a primacy through life because of the growing center of prostitution. Women, specifically single women, were considered to be destined for prostitution because of the absence of a male role model. However, some women found great success in this lifestyle because of the beneficial assets garnered within their interactions with their clients. As to the courts, benefiting some of these assets were due to involuntary judgments which lead to women imprisonment. Women who worked as prostitutes were compared to materialistic property used for pleasurable encounters. Often in London, these women were categorized in three different demeanors according to some of the case trials brought against them. The major characteristic was focused on the means of survival. Women struggled to survive in London because of the male dominancy overruling their judgment of their own behaviors and beliefs. Another demeanor of prostitutes was identify with theft and abuse of taking what should have been rightfully owed to them for their services. Lastly, the behavior of organized crime was in favor of prostitutes; for what they did against their clients was only to gain recognition and praise from their brothel-keeper. There was a concerned discourse about the city on whether the act of prostitution was right or wrong. London usually showed a humane attitude towards prostitutes and maintained justice for the women who choose this profession.
Mark worried about his cousin considering that her son and husband had abusive tendencies and contacted the authorities. Officers checked the house twice and both times a note was on the front door of the house claiming the family was away. The police returned a third day and forced their way in. The police found the bodies of Randy and Karen Ringquist frozen in the freezer Jeremy had purchased to hide the smell of decay. Mark told the paper; “Karen and her husband didn’t get along. He was abusive to her. And then their son moved in and he was also abusive. He’s a 300 pound kid.” He continued with; “Her life was miserable and I tried to tell her to get out. I said ‘You’ve got to get out of there,’ but she said she had no money and no place to go. There’s no relatives close. I’m probably her closest
Prostitution, as stated by Flemming, is known as a form of sexual activity, a kind of sexual style or category, and a form of economic activity, a way of making a living through the provisions of certain services, by behaving in accordance with, or falling into such a category (39). This definition, though, is controversial. While conducting research for this project, we found that most topics regarding prostitution and its affiliates were controversial. Each author gave a differing interpretation for the same data. Due to this, our project centered on the female prostitutes, even though there is evidence of male prostitutes.
Many people believe that the colonial period was highly religious, and that the people followed strict laws and moralities. When in fact, almost the exact opposite happened.
In sociology, the term deviance refers to all violations of social rules, regardless of their seriousness (Essentials of Sociology 136). Deviance is an individual or organizational behavior that violates societal norms and is usually accompanied by negative reactions from others. According to a sociologist S. Becker, he stated that it is not the act itself that makes an action deviant, but rather how society reacts to it.
Elizabeth Anderson makes a claim that “The attempt to sell gift value on the market makes a mockery of those values.”(Anderson 188) Anderson uses this claim to object commoditized sex (prostitution). There are two premises that Anderson uses to support her claim. The first premise being the gift value of sex cannot be realized in commercial terms and the second premise being that the gift value of sex is more significant that the use value of sex itself.
Prostitution has been as issue in many societies around the world for almost all of recorded history. There has been evidence of brothels and prostitution dating far back into human history. Many different societies have different views, ideals, and reservation about the matter. Some cultures around the world view it as a necessary evil for people who need to support themselves and their families. Others view it as morally evil and socially destructive; helping to rot our society from the inside out. Even still there are cultures who don’t view it as evil at all and even a normal part of life. A person’s view on the act is formed largely based on the culture they are living in. Even sub cultures inside of larger one can have different view on the matter, such as religious groups that denounce it, to some groups in the same culture that say it is okay. Even the gauge of how industrialized a country can determine how that culture views prostitution, with many third world countries being more lenient on the matter, and many first world countries being much more strict on the matter, such as the some of the countries in Europe and also the United States.
It is 9:00am on a warm July morning. John Smith is dropped off near an affluent neighborhood. He creeps down a side street and enters the back yard of a large home. John uses a pry bar he had hidden in his pants to break open the door. Once inside he heads for the upstairs. When he reaches the second floor he finds the door to the master bedroom and enters to find the jewelry he had come for. John takes the watches, bracelets, necklaces, and rings and stuffs them into a small duffle bag. He quickly turns and when he exits the bedroom is confronted by a teenage girl, who he knows to be the daughter of the home owner. John makes a quick decision and hits the girl in the head with the pry bar and she falls to the floor. John now panicky flees the home.
While searching the internet, people can easily find websites that promote catering to illegal sexual vices. The problem with prostitution is that the product being distributed cannot to controlled. Females make up a little over 50% of our population. Because prostitutes are born with the tools of the trade, we will never truly be able to destroy all remnants of the profession. The widespread availability of prostitutes within the darkest corners of our society plagues us all. Why then does the underground market for sex seem to take a backseat amongst other, less important social issues? Furthermore, what can be done to hinder the progression of the filth we have let slowly seep into our daily lives?
What would happen if prostitution were to become legal in the United States? There have been many debates of whether that prostitution should be legalized in the U.S. since some countries have allowed it. With that said, prostitution should be able to help further us in the U.S such as life improvement, economic advantage, and decrease in sexual transmitted diseases. Legalizing prostitution in this world will solve problems that it has been given throughout its time in history.
Individuals around the world are faced with inhumane treatments and conditions daily. “Traffickers use force, fraud or coercion, including techniques such as containment, beatings, rape, confiscation of documents, debt bondage, false owners of employment, and threats of harm” in order to maintain control over their slaves (Potocky, 2010). Sex trade is a global problem presently and will increase throughout the world if nothing is done to prevent and eliminate it. Sex slavery is a type of prostitution in which the trafficker’s make an increased profit through the solicitation of slaves. Sex trade will continue if nothing is done to prevent it globally. Lastly, in order for sex slavery to be abolished, international governments will have to take action and support anti-sex trade. A future epidemic of women and children affected by sex trade will occur if nothing is done to prevent it.

There are few social issues that trigger as much outrage as child prostitution or sex trafficking. Child prostitution is a serious world-wide dilemma, and there is so much more to this issue then just the traditional main-stream information. There are three main factors to this topic, who it affects, where it happens, and what we can do to help.
In many cases society has tried to tell you that prostitution is bad, weather it is through movies, books, religious text and many other influential aspects of society, due to the nature of the people who they portray in the act. I believe if people were properly educated into the science of sex, having sex for money would not be considered such a bad thing. When I attended prep school, I met many other kids from Europe, and let’s sat they were a little more comfortable with their sexuality, and in a few of their countries prostitution was even legal.
