PLOT SUMMARY
The movie “Schindler’s list” is a compelling, real-life depiction of the events that occurred during the 1940’s. It illustrates the persecution and horrific killings of the Jewish people. It also exemplifies the hope and will of the Jewish people, which undoubtedly is a factor in the survival of their race. The most important factor however is because of the willingness of one man, Oskar Schindler, to stand out and make a difference.
The movie starts out in a Jewish home, where a Jewish family is celebrating the Sabbath. Candles are lit while songs are sung, and when the Jews leave the house, the candles slowly burn out. The German forces have just defeated the Polish, and now the Jews are being forced out of their homes. They are reporting to the train station where they register their names, and then are shipped off to Krakow. In Krakow the Jews are gathered together in the ghetto where they are forced to live in overcrowded conditions. The Judenrat, a Jewish council, organizes the Jews into working groups according to their abilities. Oskar Schindler, a German business man, visits the ghetto to talk to Itzhak Stern, a Jew who owns a pot-making factory. Oskar and Itzhak make a deal in which Schindler will take over the factory but Stern will be the plant manager. The Jews are once again sorted according to their education and working ability, those who cannot work are sent to extermination camps while some of those who are able to, reported to Schindler’s factory. The Nazi’s decide that all of the Jews should be confined in forced labor camps. Schindler, who is now starting to feel some empathy and responsibility towards his workers, volunteers to confine his workers in his factory.
In the next part of the film, thousands of Jews are shipped off to concentration camps. Their luggage is stolen and sorted through for valuables. Stern is mistakenly put on one of those trains, but Schindler quickly comes to his rescue. Amon Goeth is now in charge of the new labor camp in Plaszow. The Jews not only build the camp, but Goeth’s immense house as well.
In the second half of the film, it is now March 13th, 1943, and the liquidation of the ghetto is taking place. Many Jews are unjustly killed as they are pulled from their houses or did not co-operate. Those who tried to hide are found and kill...

Denial is another theme in this film which helped to save the Jewish race. Even as they are forced into the ghetto and later into labor camps they are in denial of their real situation. When they are in the ghetto they are optimistic and believe that the bad times will pass, and even when killing surrounds them they won’t let themselves believe the worst.
There are certain groups of people that cause these events to happen. Because of them there are people living in denial and people that are being ostracized every day. They do this because they are afraid that if they do not go along with what the majority does their will be reprisal. Everyone wants to believe that people are basically good in nature. But with the events that occurred in the film it is easy to see that people are easily influenced and would rather go along with the group then stand out and make a difference. Most people think that one person cannot make a difference. If more people would have taken a stand, then quite possibly more Jewish people would have been saved. One person does make a difference, Oskar Schindler proved that.

Well this review will walk you through how it was like to be taken from your home and watch it burn as you drive away, this will tell you how people who were Jews were treated just because they had a different religion. This will show the tragedies that happened leaving millions dead like they just vanished off the face of the earth.
In Schindler’s List, as the Jews in Kraków are forced into the ghetto, a little girl on the street cries out, “Good-bye, Jews,” over and over again. She represents the open hostility often shown the Jews by their countrymen. After all, the little girl did not contain this hatred naturally—she learned it. Through her, Spielberg sends the message that the evil of the “final solution” infected entire communities.
In May 1940 the Nazis got Holland and soon began to place limits on the economic and social freedom the citizens. In the movie we saw how Jews had to register with the authorities so the Germans knew the names and addresses of every Jew in Holland. Jewish children were forced to attend only Jewish schools. Everybody must had cards. Those issued to the Jews were stamped with a "J" and they were often stopped by the police and made to show the I.D. card. Another problem was that Jews were required to hand over their bicycles and barred from riding trolleys or using cars.
Schindler’s List is a significant teaching tool in high school across the nation. There are far too many places worldwide that hate, intolerance and genocide still exist. The movie is not only about Jews or Germans it is about humans as a whole. This movie is about racial hatred and how many people still practice it nowadays. With the hope that Schindler’s List will awaken an awareness of such evil and inspire this generation and future generation to seek an end to racism. One aspect of how good and evil are portrayed in a number of different ways throughout the movie. This movie will remind high school students that there is hope no matter how difficult life may get, hatred still exist and how evil people are. I strongly agree that every American high school students should be required to watch Schindler’s List.
Amon Goeth’s most famous events he took part in were the liquidations of Jewish ghettos throughout Poland. The most infamous of these was specifically the Ghetto in Kraków, or Podgōrze Ghetto (“Schindler’s List”). The Kraków Ghetto was the first ghetto to be brutally liquidated under Goeth’s command; taking place between March thirteenth March sixteenth, 1943 (“Kraków liquidation). Within the camp, there were two sides in which the Jews were living. There was an A section which was designated to Jewish men, women, and children older than twelve years of age. These people were the Jews capable of hard labor. Meanwhile, the B section of the Ghetto was filled with Jews of all genders and ages who were unfit to work. (“Tarnow Ghetto”). The people living in the B section of the Ghetto knew that their fate was death at an extermination camp. This caused attempts to hide from the SS officers, attempts to escape to the A section, and rebellions against the Nazi oppression. Many Americans have watered down the Depiction of Jewish oppression during Nazi reign to swift easy round up into concentration camps. What Quentin Tarantino and the Jewish film community wanted to illustrate through this film is how this is an incorrect overgeneralization. Inglourious Basterds illustrates more realistic Jewish life during Nazi reign and the constant terror they faced. This oppression was far more personal, intimate, and cordial yet brutal altercations invoked through self-defense and hatred. This film illustrates this internal oppression and revolt through schemes, interrogations, threats, and abrupt violence.
Oskar Schindler would never have been anyone’s ideal savior, especially for the Jewish community. He was an open member of the Nazi party, a womanizer, a gambler, an alcoholic, and was extremely money hungry, but was successfully able to rescue and save from death over twelve hundred Jewish men and women. Schindler was born on April 28th, 1908 in Zwittua, Czechoslavakia. He was born Catholic and into a wealthy family, but started early on a life of sin. In 1930 he moved to Poland in hopes of becoming a success in business. As the Holocaust was just in its’ beginnings, he was able to get his hands on an enamel wear factory on Lapowa Street in in Krakow. This was one of the factories that used to owned and ran by a Jewish individual, but was then stripped away from them like all other businesses that were stolen away from the Jewish people during the Holocaust. The location of the factory was only a few miles away from the ghettos. Schindler quickly moved in on the SS officers and tried to make close ties with them in order to gain connections with high authority. He showered them with women, money, alcohol, and other desired objects. From his new acquaintances he obtained free employment from the Jewish “slaves” of the labor camps. In order to keep his factory and the money he was making, Schindler changed his factory to cater to wartime needs. However his factory works to purposefully produce artillery and tank shells of low quality to prevent any more weapons from being made that can to be used amongst people. Schindler tells Stern, “If this factory ever produces a shell that can actually be fired, I’ll be very unhappy.” Schindler starts to openly show his motivation towards saving Jews from then on, and his self motivation has helped save many generations of Jews even today.
The first thing that struck me in part two, was how the Jews were being told to identify themselves now by wearing special badges. To begin, the children in this particular scene talked about how their identity cards had come in the mail, on it there was a large red J, inside they would find what would become known as the “Jew badge”. All people of the Jewish faith had to wear stars, more specifically, the star of David. These yellow star badges signified that they were Jewish, it would become their new identity to others. By having them wear these yellow noticeable stars, they would be easily spotted by others, they would become isolated among the German citizens. The Jews would then be banned to certain areas, which they were not allowed to leave.
Schindlers List is a movie that takes place during WWII. The movie begins in Krakow, Poland just after the collapse of the Polish army, and at the beginning of the German occupation. Oskar Schindler, a tall handsome womanizer arrives in the city looking to open a factory in order to gain profits from the war. At the time, Jewish people were no long permitted to own a business, so Oskar obtains a factory from a Jewish man named Itzhak Stern, and makes Stern his accountant and manager. The two men form a strange relationship, with Oskar taking advantage of Sterns talent, and Stern distrustingly but obediently following Schindlers orders. Schindler goes to the Jewish ghetto to get the rich Jewish people to invest into his factory, and to get the poor Jews to work for him, since they can provide him with cheap labor. By way of the black market, Schindler obtains numerous delicacies such as liquor and hcocolate for the SS and German officers and sends them gift baskets to get on their good side. Schindler spent his days entertaining the Nazis, and spending time with his numerous women, while leaving the work of running the factory to Itzhak because in Schindlers mind, he was very capable.
Schindler is the rescuer of an eleven hundred Jewish people and many generations that would spring from them. When coming and offering work and safety as one, it gave Jews a way to escape the horrible realities that the Nazis were inflicting onto the Jewish population. When the Jews in Krakow were being liquidated, Schindler's Jews thanked Shindler, knowing that they found a loophole in the horror story. Schindler knew what he was doing, whether out of his heart or out of the thirst for wealth, he still realized how he was impacting the Jews, even saying, “you’ll be safe working here. If you work here, you’ll live through the war.”
I must say that this film is very traumatizing. There are some images in this film that will be burned and scarred into my mind for as long as I live. I have seen many holocaust films, but no one was as near as dramatic and depicting as Night and Fog. However I did like the theme of this movie. It is very sad but yet realistic. Our minds are murky and dull. We tend to only remember the important situation in our lives. Yet we don’t remember the importance of our own history. I say OUR history be cause we all are human beings on this earth. Whether we believe in Allah, Jesus, Jehovah, or whatever higher power, we are all one race, and that the human race. It is very sad to know that human beings were treated and slaughtered just because of an ideology of superiority complex. Al though the Jewish people were massacred I learned that we must always keep a sense of hope in order to assure our own survival. When I saw in the movie the moments where there were journals that read about favorite foods and important dates, my heart was filled with sadness. Not because these victims didn’t have this to eat but because of the false illusions that they had to dream in order to stay sane.
From the first moment of Schindler's List to the very last, you will be amazed by the strength and resilience of the Jewish people during this horrendous time in their history. You will witness and feel their pain and horror in this very graphic, yet painfully true story. Steven Speilberg deserves all of the awards this film had brought him. It is a time in history we should never forget and pray that we will never witness again.
Oskar Schindler was a wealthy German industrialist, who made much of his wealth by employing Jewish men and women in his various factories. In the movie “ Schindler’s List,” it starts off with Schindler in a restaurant with many high ranking Nazi officers eating there.
