Ben Roethlisberger, commonly known as Big Ben is a quarterback player of Pittsburgh Steelers who suffered a Lisfranc injury in a game. He was carted off because of his serious foot injury that will compromise his mobility and scramble ability.
Students are being tested on elements that were seen on their pre-test. More specifically, the students are being tested on elements of the pre-test that they did not score well on. After more than four weeks of instruction on these elements, this assessment will project the evidence of student learning in regard to five specific learning goals. I will collect this data by having students complete the test with their answers for this assessment. By using a multiple choice test, students can receive immediate feedback on their assessment because a machine automatically tabulates correct and incorrect answers as the test is fed through the machine. My rationale for this data-collection method is based on the fact that it provides immediate feedback to the students and myself. Quick turnaround is essential when evaluating the evidence of student
Have you ever read a Modest Proposal? A Modest Proposal was written by Jonathan Swift in 1729. Swift’s purpose is to persuade the poor people of Ireland that babies and young kids are useless, and can be used for more things when they’re deceased versus alive. He says that they’re too expensive for their parents to take care of them and keep them nourished. Swift adopts a serious yet sarcastic tone in order to convince the poor people that babies and young children are useless. He talks about many issues when it comes to having babies and young kids.
High-stakes testing also has negative effects on learning because it tells students what education means- which appears to be something too complex and difficult to understand and relate to. These tests, being too long and beyond their level of cognitive development, would unnecessarily eat away their confidence, and perhaps even their motivation to learn. In addition, if assessments become too geared toward these tests, affective assessments would take a backseat. Affective assessments, however, are essential to understanding what our students know and prefer and their attitudes
Many studies show that older high school students tend to not take the mandated standardized test but rather “have fun” with the test by filling in the answer bubbles with pictures (Tests 3). The only time that students care about the results of a test are if they affect their grades or future goals. From th...
If there are three jobs I would like to have in the future they would be electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and a music composer. To become any of these though I need to go to college so I can be educated and able to make more money at what I want to do.

In particular, there is one frightening thing about these tests; they stress students out to a whole new level. These tests must be passed in order to proceed to the next grade. In some cases, a cumulative score must be achieved in order to graduate. If this score is not reached, the student cannot graduate until the points are made up. It takes an average of seven months for a student to receive their scores. For months, students are left wondering if they earned enough points to pass. Thinking about their score can cause them to worry and not focus clearly on the school work they need to complete. In order to benefit from a high school education, a full attention span is required. After some recent studies, people are finding
Many students tend to dread attending classes. As a result, the attitude of students is at times very relaxed when completing assignments. Teachers can assess whether students complete assignments through a variety of ways. But the most effective way is by assigning a pop quiz.
Worldwide, the main cause of death in children results from injuries sustained accidentally, and that correctly termed ‘unintentional injuries’ are preventable. Additionally, unintentional injuries that do not result in death can have a significant impact on a healthy developing child (Hoffnung et al., 2013). The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Brussoni, Olsen, Pike, & Sleet, 2012), advocate play as crucial to the healthy development and wellbeing of a child. Research reveals children are naturally draw to exciting, exhilarating, challenging and stimulating play, this physically active type of play leads to a greater risk of unintentional injury. Children governed by overprotective and restrictive play, consequently have higher risk of unintentional injuries (Brussoni et al., 2012). It is fundamental that
I have been involved in the counseling for many years. I am very fortunate person to serve so many people through counseling or support. I was able to listen to their problems and suggest them a solution or guide them to an appropriate authority or person. My count of helping people may go beyond 1000.
“Teachers help students use assessment as a window into their own growth and identify as learners so, they develop the power and agency necessary to take charge of their learning (Tomlinson, 2010). Summative assessments are a mirror to student thinking. Summative assessments help teachers and students see a trajectory of their learning. Teachers can use them to identify which students are ready for other tasks; and which students need more time to develop specific concepts. The assessment that we administered asked students to answer a series of questions using information from a graph. It also prompted them to create a graph using the results of survey for our field trip. This assessment combined constructed response questions with a meaningful task. “The paper and pencil multiple choice test is not the only way to assess learning. It is a limited way to gain insight into what some students know and are able to do”(Berliner, 2010, p.113).
Testing is one of the big issues in our education system. The idea that the whole school curriculum should be planned around tests is a foolish one, if we want to get a quality education that we can actually learn something valuable from. Having students cram empty facts and memorize test answers is not teaching them it is just encouraging more stress and late nights. On some occasions, tests are a necessary evil to see if the student has actually learned anything from what they have been taught, but to gear the whole class a...
It is my goal to make assessment and grading a positive element to my classroom for both my students and me. I want to give many opportunities for my students to do well and achieve mastery as well as become the best student they can be. Students should not just be measured by the end result. Learning is a process and I believe that it is in this process that true learning occurs. Aside from being graded on the basic facts, students need to be measured on how well they apply their knowledge. Assessment will be a huge part of my classroom; however, I will hold more importance for a student’s performance and progress rather than a factual test. Down the road, these students will need the skills learned during their early years. A multiple choice question isn’t what is going to help them in the long run
On a final note, the time is ripe for all concerned to take a step back and re-assess the real benefits of examinations. It is an exigent circumstance which we are in. As society evolves and technology advances, there is much more to education than simply monotonously memorizing the bare facts of the world. The globalised world of today requires our children to embrace the earth and be innovative. Creativity fuels the innovation engine, with examinations, it is difficult to see how the imaginative aspects of their minds can be developed. One can envision the miserable world our future generations will thrive in, if no steps are taken to keep up with the present day’s needs. We cannot allow ourselves to be entrenched in deeply traditional methods, antiquated values no longer function in this day and age.
