Absolute rulers like Louis xiv and Peter the Great strengthened there
countries butweakened them economically. They made great improvements
to the armies and social aspects of the kingdom. But when they were improving
all of these things it ended up costing them a great deal of money. Was it good to
have a great army and government if everyone had no money? Absolutism is a
political theory holding that all power should bevested in one ruler or other
authority. Both Louis xiv and Peter the Great considered themselves to be absolute
rulers and they had divine right.
Louis xiv changed France in many ways. He helped and hurt the growing
nation. In order to become a true absolute ruler Louis xiv needed to make sure
that ll the power was contained in himself. So he did a very clever thing, he took
the nobles power out of the government. And to make sure they didnt realize
that their power was being taken away slowly he gave them positions in the army
(doc.7). This now made france a true absolute monarchy. All the power was now
in louis xiv. He made all the decisions and no one could stop or disagree with
him. Unlike the middle ages where the system of government was the feudal
system and the nobles contained a great deal of power t...
Louis XIV was one of four leaders, (along with Charles V, Napoleon, and Adolf Hitler) who had an opportunity to establish their hegemony over much of Europe in the time period after 1500. Although Louis XIV failed in his attempt to dominate Europe politically, it was during this time span that Europe was very strongly influenced by French culture and civilization.
After the invention of basketball, it started to spark interest in females across the country. Only problem was that the people believed the sport to be a man’s game and was no fit for a woman. When the game was invented, it was modified to man’s needs and wants. It was modified to be an aggressive strategic type of game and apparently wasn’t a fit for women. Although it wasn’t considered a fit for women, they did everything they could to play. Jenkins states that “Women's basketball has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1892” (Jenkins).
...less outside of intimidation. Currently we are debating whether torture would be a useful tool in society, but some have solved the answer for us many years ago. Those who commit crimes are often willing to sacrifice their life to keep the secret. Torture simply lowers us to their standards and facilitates increased terrorist activity in the long run. Why put salt on the wound when you have a Band-aid? Torturing cannot be morally justified.
In my opinion the answer to the question, “was the government of King Louis XIV an absolute monarchy?”,
While absolutism benefited Louis XIV and France during the 17th century, other countries were unable to sustain his model as long as he did. This model dispersed to as absolute monarchs were seeing the world change from when the Sun King reigned (491).
“Nike, which began as an import/export scheme of made-in-Japan running shoes and does not own any of its own factories, has become a prototype for the product-free brand. Inspired by the swoosh’s staggering success, many more traditionally run companies…are busy imitating Nike’s model, not only copying the company’s marketing approach…but also its on-the-cheap outsourced production structure.” (from “No Logo” p203) Wacom Wacom thankfully still has one factory in Japan and owns their own factories, but outsourcing work is still a problem. It becomes more difficult to guarantee the quality of products and address problems and solutions. Moreover, if Wacom is relying on cheap labor, the marketed value of their products should actually be affordable and not so outlandish. When similar products are at a much affordable range, it consolidates the claim that Wacom is merely selling their
The Sun King, Louis XIV was only four years old when he succeeded his father to the French throne. Often not cared for, he nearly drowned because no one was watching him as he played near a pond. (The Sun King) This began to shape in his young mind, and gave him an early fear of God. Louis was also shaped by the French Civil War. In this, the Paris Parliament rose against the crown.
During six on six, some girls scored sixty points a night. People don’t see that happening anymore. Some girls are lucky to get one thousand points in their high school career now. One girl from Ventura, Iowa, Lynne Lorenzen, scored 6,736 points in her high school career. Lynne played on the Ventura team that went to the state championship. Within four years, she scored that many points. That sounds completely insane. Kelly Meader, a teacher and coach from our school, got to play with Lynne (Tiffany and Cassy). That’s pretty cool getting to play with someone that has the all time record for scoring during six on six basketball. There is a girl who scored forty-four points one night this year already, but that’s really the most that has been reported this year for five on five. It doesn’t happen very often. Since there are five girls all on offense, more girls have the chance to score. When there were only three girls on offense, those three had to shoot more, so it made sense as to why they could score so much more than girls do
Before continuing, the act of torture for the sake of punishment or for entertainment or for any other non-humanitarian can never be morally permissible. The only type of torture argued in this paper is the one with the goal of intelligence gathering in order to save an innocent life. All other forms of torture are not morally permissible.
Also that range can all play in the same time in the court which made it extremely difficult to play. It finally did change to having only 10 players in the court. At first when a game was played indoor during the winter, if the ball would go out of bounds then it will result in many men diving in order to retain the ball in their possession. This would result in many injuries and the rule would be changed after having so many problems. “When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field of play by the person first touching
Of all the absolute rulers in Europe, by far the best example of one, and the most powerful, was Louis XIV of France. Although Louis had some failures, he also had many successes. He controlled France’s money and had many different ways to get, as well as keep his power, and he knew how to delegate jobs to smart, but loyal people.
The shot clock, the amount of players on the court at a time, and 3 point shots all became a part of the game based on changes made in the sport of basketball (Steve Silverman, 1). Basketball has become a more challenging game over the last 126 years. Some ways they have made the game more challenging is by adding the first NBA teams, the first girls team, and changing some of the rules. But now let’s go back to what basketball was like when it was created.
Based on this, it has become hard to conceptualize Mayan music nowadays without the influences of post Encounter. The Mayan music of present day uses marimba as the most popular instrument. This instrument is believed to have originated from Central Africa in the 16th century and arrived in Guatemala in the 17th century (Oxford Music Online, 2012). One of the most outstanding examples of hybrid in pre and post Encounter is the notion that in some Mayan tribes the marimba is used both as an instrument of music and communicating device (Pellicer, 2005). The marimba gives a revelation of indirect contact existing between Africa and Europe. The quality of hybrid in Mayan music is exhibited in the selections of songs from Olsen and Sheehy (2008). The influence of Mayan musical tradition has been seen in ‘Los Novios. ' The instrumentation involved mirrors the effect of African contact from an indirect perspective while the subject matter of the work mirrors the influence of Roman Catholic. Looking at ‘Los Trece’ there is an integration of the subject matter into sones that Latino musicians have developed from various traditions of pre and post-Encounter. In ‘Amilahani’ however, the traditional Mayan impacts the performance and music in general. Dances are more vivid without any trace of influence from post
Some people argue that the goal of saving innocent lives must overrule a person's right not to be tortured. This argument is presented in its simplest form in the "ticking bomb" situation: an explosive has been set to detonate that will kill thousands of people and a detained person is known to have information on where the bomb is and how to defuse it. Is torture acceptable in such a case to force the convict to talk? Those who say that it is, reason that governments should be permitted to choose torture as the lesser of two evils in such a situation. The global community, however, has forbidden the use of torture even in the "ticking bomb" case. Universal human rights laws, as well as U.S. law, do not have any exceptions to the barring against torture.
From a moral standpoint, torture is wrong and unacceptable. Many religious people are against this act of violence because they see it as a violation of the dignity of a human being. Humans have the right to not have intentional harm upon themselves from others. The ban on torture furthermore supports this certain right. Not only does torture violate people’s rights, but they also violate the demands of justice. In the past, many of our nation’s people have been tortured and we have had a problem with it; but when it’s not you the one that is being tortured, it seems to be fine. Have you heard of the golden rule, “Treat others only as you consent to being treated in the same situation? (7)” This applies very well to this problem.
