Breast Implants
In the early 1980’s breast implants began gaining popularity, but they have been on the market since the early 1960’s. They were invented by plastic surgeons Cronin and Gerow. Dow Corning began manufacturing them commercially in 1962. Today over two million women have undergone breast augmentation surgery. There are many negative consequences that may arise from the surgery, and there is always the risk of infection or rupture. When beginning my research on the subject I assumed there would be a plethora of information. I was shocked to find out that there wasn’t. Silicone breast implants have been around for 40 years and there have been very few studies on their consequences, and possible effects on a woman’s body. The Food and Drug Administration has never approved the use of silicone implants. It is a surprising fact, because silicone implants are still being used today, but only by women who agree to be in a study of their safety. The politics surrounding breast augmentation are sketchy for lack of a better word. They have been promoted as being safe, yet their safety has never been fully questioned. While looking online, I found a variety of websites on the subject. There were many websites from the plastic surgery industry promoting breast implants as being safe. Then there were the websites like http://www.siliconeholocaust.org, this was by far the most disturbing site I have ever seen. There were dozens of pictures of real women who had their lives ruined by breast implants. If these, and other women had the little information that is available on the subject, they may have opted not to have the surgery because of the unnecessary consequences they now suffer.
Every woman has her own reasons behind her decision to get breast implants. Some women have undergone mastectomies, and get breast implants in order to feel “normal” again. According to the National Women’s Health Network (http://www.womenshealthnetwork.org) women who have lumpectomies have the same survival rate of women who have mastectomies as a result of breast cancer. They concluded that up to 40 percent of women who were diagnosed with breast cancer underwent unnecessary mastectomies. These mastectomies, whether necessary or not may lead to women to undergo breast augmentation surgery.
Other women have always felt that their breasts were too small, and out of proportion ...

...o have had breast implants often cannot get health insurance because they have an increased risk of illness. If a woman is able to obtain health insurance she may have to pay a higher premium because of her past plastic surgery history.
After learning of the negative consequences that may, and probably will arise from breast implants, it is surprising that so many women are still getting them. It is major surgery and the benefits of having larger breast is not worth the unnecessary chance of death or serious pain for life. More work needs to be done on the study of breast implants because women need to know what they are putting in their bodies. Breast implant manufacturers need to be held responsible, and plastic surgeon should be required to make sure every woman is fully aware of all the possible side effects before she has any type of surgery done.

Major changes occur in a women's body especially to the breasts with age, significant weight reduction, childbirth, and breast feeding. Apart from affecting the self-confidence, large breast cause other physical discomforts in the form of neck and back pain. This procedure is useful in reconstituting the breast configuration in women who have undergone Mastectomy to remove breast, mostly due to cancer. The breast formation may either involve implants or tissues from other parts of the body such as back or lower abdomen. Reconstruction of nipple and areola may be done to regain the natural appearance and confidence. The firmness and round contour of the breast can be restored by breast reduction surgery. Often, some women feel the size of their breast is too small. Some people desire for augmentation surgery after breast changes due to pregnancy, while others wish to correct the asymmetry in the size of the breast. In all these cases, it is possible to peerform breast enhancement surgery.
The same implants used in breast augmentation surgery can be used in breast reconstruction. These implants are often the best choice in cases where all of the breast is removed (radical mastectomy). They can be done on one side or both.
Most women want to have firm, perky and sexy breasts because it makes them feel good about themselves. However, over the years, factors such as aging, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, heredity, gravity and others can have a toll on their breasts causing them to lose firmness and change shape. Sagging breasts are not only unsightly, but also cause embarrassment and to women. As a result, some are willing to go to any length to get their strong and firm breasts back. One of the medical procedures that can help women rectify the sagging is breast lift surgery.
Massive breasts aren 't as alluring as some females might think. If you were blessed with naturally bulky breasts, there is a strong chance you have always desired to get them abridged. Most females have considered breast implants at one time or another. In actual fact, a hefty percentage of young girls, even as fledgling as high school, have given serious thought to having breast augmentation operation. Females that are naturally gifted with bulky breasts wouldn 't approve of the ordinary girl 's desire for breast implants. Why not? Because they know that big breasts aren 't all they
Implants can have contraindication like if patient have heart disease affecting the valve, active cancer or bone disease. Certain medical conditions may affect the healing phase and ultimately the success of the implant. A person who grinds their teeth may be a pore cadet for implants. Also another bad candidate can be patient with unusual anatomic structures. Also patient who have bad daily home care. The daily care of taking care of implants is the same way you would take care of your daily teeth by brushing tooth flossing, to keep clean 2 times a
There are three major surgical techniques of BR: a breast implant, autologous tissue flap, or a combination of both (Platt et al., 2011). Autologous reconstruction relies on the transfer of flaps of tissue from donor sites such as skin, fat, and muscle to the anterior chest wall (Ahmed et al., 2005). Breast reconstruction with autologous tissue leaves extensive scarring and muscle weakness at the donor site, but can provide a BR that is more natural in appearance and feel. In the other hand, implants are less invasive but they carry the risks of implant migration, rupture or encapsulation, and the implants do not age with the woman’s body (Fallbjörk, 2012).
Not feeling comfortable in your own skin can have a negative effect in every aspect of your life. Preoccupation with parts of your body that you do not feel one hundred percent confident with can consume your thoughts, especially at inopportune times. Your body should not hinder you from living a full-quality life. As a part of wanting to achieve your best body, have you ever desire a fuller chest? Do you ever wish your breasts were evenly proportioned and round? Breast augmentation, or commonly known as breast implants, improves the shape of your breasts so you can have a symmetrical, rounder, and fuller bust. Allow yourself the opportunity to be happy, confident, and to show off your amazing body.
First of all, plastic surgery enhances the self-confidence of the person who undertakes it (Nauert, 2011). In fact, according to Figueroa-Haas (as cited in Nauert, 2011), although plastic surgery is not the best way to cure low self-esteem problems we can’t deny its psychological benefits. Figueroa-Haas, (as cited in Nauert, 2011), conducted a study in 2005, on 84 women in their middle age to assess the change in their self-esteem before and after breast enlargement and the results showed that indeed, the women’s self-confidence improved after the surgery and it also affected their sexual satisfaction and attitudes. Similar studies have been made by Borah (as cited in Kohl, 2000) on cosmetic surgery patients to evaluate their quality of life before and after the proc...
The trend for a number of young girls is to get breast augmentation. They think that by changing their bodies, they’re going to change their lives. They think they will be happy, and they will be completely satisfied with their implants. Their expectation is that their self-confidence will skyrocket, and they will be attractive girls. Many young girls get implants to make themselves stand out more and to have a great appearance, but there are many reasons that they should comprehend the long-term effect of surgery.
A woman may choose to have a breast augmentation revision to address issues related to her initial breast augmentation procedure. Dr. Nina S. Naidu is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Manhattan: As a female herself, she fully understands the disappointment a woman feels when complications arise following a breast augmentation procedure. Dr. Naidu's compassion, dedication and commitment to her patients makes her the perfect plastic surgeon to perform your breast implant revision. Furthermore, she has the experience, artistic vision and skill necessary to correct mistakes made by other plastic surgeons or address issues that arise at some point following a breast augmentation.
A multitude of people would like to change something about their physical appearance and some actually do through cosmetic surgery whether it’s a rhytidectomy, abdominoplasty, or breast argumentation. However, these surgical procedures are not necessary to the patient health but instead, they are performed purely for the patients need to change how they are viewed. One of the most common procedures here in the US is breast argumentation for example, “between 2000 and 2006, a record number of women flocked to get implants; procedures rose by 55 percent” ("Why Thousands of Women Are Having Their Breast Implants Removed"). Many women have gone through the breast argumentation procedure to enlarge their breast size in which they choose between
Infibulation and breast implant procedures carry the same idea. To physically change a women’s body in order to please the expectations of male dominance. It’s not to make them feel good, but to look more attractive to the male population. After all why doesn’t a male get plastic surgery? Because they don’t need to, its not expected of them. Women on the other hand are being told by mothers, magazines, and media. My sister is a little overweight and my Mom tells her to lose it because apparently if she’s a little chubbier, no one will marry. The whole

In addition to the many health risks, unnecessary societal pressure also adds on to the list of why plastic surgery should be banned. As oppose to spending thousands to hide their flaws, people should learn to love and live with them, as they are what essentially make them truly unique.
Typically when having surgery done, people will weigh the risk of the surgery against against the suspected health improvement. However, when having cosmetic surgery done, there is no health improvement. There is actually no improvement at all except to the patients mental views on themselves. There are many risks when having plastic surgery that are often overlooked by patients because the surgery is being preformed by doctors. Doctors aren’t here to harm us, but heal us, so having a certified person in a white coat cut you open to put implants in you, could’t be harmful could it? Unfortunately, it easily could. “It’s well known that breast implants of many types can cause burning pain, loss of sensation, hardening of breast tissue and serious infection. One woman who suffered complications from implants has filed a petition with the Scottish government urging adoption of such a ban. An argument could even be made that aesthetic surgery violates the Hippocratic oath [taken by medical doctors] because it carries a potential for harm without curing or preventing disease.”(Edmonds) A French company named Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) is known for having faulty breast implants. The PIP’s are known to rupture more easily and are full of an industrial grade of silicone that was never intended for use in the medical
