Animal Rights and Animal Testing
Many humans use animals for testing each year. Animal testing is when the animals are put through something or injected to see how they react to what medical research they have been used for. Animals are used to find cures for diseases or to test drugs that have mild side effects. They are also used to test materials for cosmetic research.
Except for severely limited medical research, animal testing should be outlawed. Animal testing endangers the animal’s lives and may cause serious side affect that last the rest of their lives. Others believe that they should not test medicine on humans because humans’ lives are more precious than that of the animals. They believe that since animals have no rights that they should be used for testing.
There are three very important reasons why animals should not be used for testing harmful or dangerous materials. One of these is that testing and its use is trivial in the cosmetic industry. The second reason is that animals have rights and animals can feel pleasure and pain just as humans do. The third reason is that testing is cruel and unusual.
Another reason is that animal testing and its use is trivial in the cosmetic industry. Testing on animals for the cosmetic industry is not necessary because they have many other ways to find out if it harms the human race. The testing that goes on is harmful to the animals and can cause serious side effects. The cosmetic companies hold down bunnies in vices and spray the cosmetics into their eyes to see if it cause them redness, stinging, or even blindness. They also have baboons strapped down with their heads in vices to do certain tests on them. Animals are also used by pharmaceutical companies to produce drugs and health supplements. They estimate that 17 to 22 million animals are used each year for medical research, and these estimates do not include rats, mice, fish, and farm animals. That means that 90% of all research animals are not included in the statistics. Too many animals are being tested and they do not even need to use the animals for these tests. They can use computer software materials and get the same results.
One more point is that animals do have rights.
“Altruism and Indirect Reciprocity: The Interaction of Person and Situation in Prosocial Behavior” was based significantly off of the findings of the study done by David De Cremer called “Why Prosocials Exhibit Greater Cooperation then Proselfs: The Roles of Social Responsibility and Reciprocity.” Both studies preliminarily tested the college students with a social value orientation test to classify the participants as either prosocial or proself. Next, the participants participated in series of “games” that differed in each study. De Cremer used scenarios that allowed the participant to decide how many chips (a made up source of perceived value) they wanted to contribute to either a group or partner, followed by an inquiry as to how responsible they felt to “further the collective interest.” This study aimed to understand the different behaviors and feelings associated with being prosocial or proself. For example, it was found that a prosocial feel more socially responsible and want to restore equality in outcomes of situations, therefore increasing their tendency to behave cooperatively. The “Altruism and Indirect Reciprocity” study went through scenarios in which the participants would participate in “dictator games” in which they were given two opportunities to help another person, once in public the other in private. Each year in the United States close to 26 million animals including, mice, rabbits, cats, dogs, and most commonly chimpanzees are tested both for scientific research and conventional research. Animals are tested in treatments to determine how a drug or treatment will affect a human being, and several more health care purposes. This is nothing new though, animal testing has been practiced since 500 BC. Animal testing is both morally and ethically wrong and needs to be put to a stop.
Every year approximately 100 million animals are killed as a part of scientific research in the United States alone. Animal testing is a highly controversial practice in the modern world. There are records of animals being used in biological and medicinal research as far back as 384 BCE with the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. Many people believe animal testing is unethical as it is bringing harm to animals in order to benefit humans. Ever since the beginning of this practice, animal testing has been used for a variety of purposes, all of which are inhumane and unethical.
Having a sound knowledge and awareness on the impact of social and cultural variables is imperative for understanding the complexities surrounding human behaviors. Culture, which is primarily used to refer to the way of life of a people, inevitably influences individuals’ lives through language, dress, food, worldviews, institutions, art, material objects, beliefs, values, and attitudes. Similarly, social issues affecting individual lives may be influenced by economic, political, and environmental factors. But in some cases the buyer-seller relationship does not merit a collaborative-style relationship; the customer may only require a transactional relationship. It is because of this reason than I believe that CRM does not always have to constitute the heart of B2B marketing.

Animal experimentation has been around for many years. Throughout history, animals have been hurt in many different experiments. Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” This quote best express the idea that animals are important, and they deserve to be treated well.
