Rather than stating the true meaning of his works, William Faulkner generally uses symbolism to portray the depth of his tales. Throughout the story “A Rose For Emily,” time is a continuous theme that is portrayed through symbols. The past, present, and future are represented by different people, places, and things. One of which such symbols, the main character herself, represents the essence of the past through her father, her house, and her lover. Historically, the Grierson name was one of the most respected names in Jefferson. Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Grierson played various roles in the community to further the reputation of his name and to earn his family a great deal of honor. He also, however, had and air of superiority about him. His attitude toward women, as evident in the treatment of his daughter, reflects his old-fashioned ways and his inability, or his lack of desire, to move on into the future. Throughout Miss Emily’s childhood, her father believed that “none of the young men were quite good enough for Miss Emily.” Mr. Grierson did not allow his grown daughter, even at the age of thirty, to make her own decisions. Moreover, he did not feel it was her place to act on her own behalf. Miss Emily willingly accepted her role in the household. The name and the attitudes that Mr. Grierson passed on to his daughter Emily symbolically opposed the change that was going on around them. ...
...er. We’ll to church tomorrow” (4.2.37). This is unfair to Juliet because it is not what she wanted, and if he had not been so sharp in his decision-making, she would not have had to drink the potion. If only he had left the wedding alone and attempted to cheer up his daughter himself.
The tragedy of the Salem Witch Trials will forever hold a place in America’s history. With change for those living in the new world, came an abundance of unfortunate events. Those events being over one-hundred people being accused of practicing witchcraft, and twenty of them, just in Salem, were wrongfully tried and hanged. The trials played a big role of people’s views on religion and
According to people in Jefferson town, the Grierson was really a monument, although this monument was fallen, they considered Emily, the last Grierson, an example to the young people. As a result of that, townspeople, especially 'some of the ladies began to say that it was disgrace to the town and a bad example to the young people?
The year 1692 marked a major event in history in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem Witchcraft Trials still leaves this country with so many questions as to what happened in that small town. With all the documentation and accounts of the story, people are still wondering why 19 people died as a result of these trials. This paper will discuss the events leading up to the Salem Witch Trials and the events that took place during and after the trials, and the men and women who were killed or spent the remainder of their lives in jail. The Salem Witch Trials has become one of the countries most fascinating stories.
The Salem Witch Trials were a time of confusion, where half a dozen girl accusers threw the town of Salem on its head. The end result was 19 hung and one crushed to death for failure to admit or deny witchcraft and 150 more were imprisoned throughout the course of the trial (Hall p38). The Puritans came to the “New World” for their religious freedom to fallow their ideals for a new way of life, the “perfect way of life.” They were issued charter--to live on the land--. The King Phillip’s war labeled as “[t]he bloodiest war in America’s history …which…took place in New England in 1675” (Tougias par.1) had a dramatic effect on the Puritan society. Their charter was revoked and reinstated at least twice throughout the course of the war. This stress of having their land revoked and reinstated without a doubt placed pressure on the society as a whole to develop and become self-sustaining entity free from England. After the war people would look to the church even more than they had in the past for guidance. This set the seen for the problems to come. The churches relentless attempt to maintain the society that they had established was the cause of the Salem witch trials.
The Salem Witch Trials was a period of mass paranoia in Salem, Massachusetts that lead to not only deaths but a long lasting impact on the people. Government should not be run by or influenced by belief in religion and higher beings but in law and justice. Also, trials and cases should be carried out on a logical basis with the use of credible and concrete evidence, unlike the Salem Witch Trials. However, in Salem from 1629 under the reign of puritans, law was created with the contribution of beliefs, mainly in the devil and God. The idea of theocracy ruled in Salem.
One of the key reasons, Romeo and Juliet were merely victims of their parents rage, was mainly their lack of communication and active listening. Modern age families can be torn apart because of miscommunication. Half the time it’s a problem that a five minute conversation would have fixed. But of course not every thirteen year old’s solution is to kill herself if her parents are not listening. In the story, Juliet is saddened by the fact that Romeo has been banished and doesn’t want to marry Paris. Instead of her father being attentive and asking Juliet what is wrong, he erupts in a fury and threatens to disown juliet if she does not marry. Seeing that either of her parents will listen, she then kills herself.
Romeo and Juliet’s families play a big part in their deaths because of their huge family feud. Juliet says to herself on her balcony, “Deny
Juliet's parents’ were the ones to blame for Romeo & Juliet's deaths’. The reason being, that, Juliet's parents pushed Juliet into doing something against her will, which led to a chain of events causing suicide. Juliet's parents should have realized something was extremely wrong when Juliet, a 14 year old girl, didn’t wish to marry an 18 year old guy she didn’t like at all. Forcing Juliet to do this wasn’t right, or just at all, and they should have looked at things from her perspective and took her feelings into consideration. It is Juliet that’s going to end up with the guy forever.
Romeo and Juliet were a pair of star-crossed lovers. In William Shakespeare’s drama, “Romeo and Juliet,” the two fall in love and get married, and they don’t know how to tell their families. The Montagues and Capulets are families that are feuding against each other. Romeo nor Juliet can tell anyone about their marriage, or relationship. Romeo and Juliet have to deal with very hard choices because of the family feud. Romeo and Juliet’s deaths were caused by the two families feuding against each other, and by Romeo and Juliet’s fate, even though Romeo and Juliet in the end committed suicide.
Juliet's decision to marry Romeo over Paris is causing conflicts between her relationship with her parents. Capulet who is Juliet's dad wants her to marry Paris on Thursday. Juliet can not marry Paris because she's already married to Romeo and Capulet does not know about this so
In “A Rose For Emily”, by William Faulkner, plot plays an important role in how
Juliet’s weakness to be controlled by love leads her to make unadvised and irresponsible decisions that contribute to her choice of ending her life. Characterized as a young and rash teenager, with no interest in love and marriage at first, Juliet wants to be independent. However, after she first lays eyes on Romeo, Juliet’s perception of love is quick to change. Their strong love easily manipulates and clouds her judgment. Even if she is cautious and realizes their love is too fast, the rush of feelings from having a first love overcomes her. Her soft-spoken words symbolically foreshadow the journey of Romeo and Juliet’s love. “Well, do not swear. Although I joy in thee, / I have no joy of this contract tonight. / It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden;…/ This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath, / May prove to be a beauteous flower when next we meet” (2.2. 117-123). The blooming flower is indicative of their growing love, especially Juliet. Being her first experience of true love, her actions become more rash the deeper she falls in, even ...
Most people are familiar with Cybercrime or Computer Crime being crime carried out by use of computers or the Internet. With the growing use of the Internet it is no surprise to anyone that Cybercrime or Computer Crime has been on the rise and has been since the coming of the Internet and anyone can be a victim of cybercrime. Take for example in 2012, 7% of the U.S. population had their identity stolen from online (Harrell, Lang, 2013, pg. 1). There is no denying that the formation and growth of the Internet has had an impact on crime (Wall, 2011, pg. 8). The purpose of this paper is to explain and give an overview of the types of cybercrime, how law enforcement handle these types of crimes, and how prevent cybercrime.
Cybercrime is a global issue plaguing the world. The dictionary defines cybercrime as “crime conducted via the Internet or some other computer network”(Merriam-Webster). The definition remains very broad because the word “cyber” is defined as “relating to the culture of computers, information technology, and virtual reality.” Due to the growing number of people gaining access to the internet, rapid development of technology, and the globalization of the world, more of the world population is becoming susceptible to involvement in cybercrime – whether it be as a victim or a criminal. Cybercrime involves different levels of the world on both the victim and criminal side from an individual citizen, to small groups, businesses, and the government, to the countries of the world. There are different groups from law enforcement agencies to the U.S. Secret Service, that are attempting to combat the problem through cooperation and preemptive efforts. If these groups combined with the public to protect themselves and the country from criminals that commit cybercrime, the nation’s network and technology servers would be much safer for technology users. Clearly, cybercrime is a problem because it puts internet users at risk of being taken advantage of or harmed.
