Behavior Trends
Abstract
The organizational environment has a powerful influence on employee
behavior. Many of our responses are automatic: we drive with
effortless attention to the road and lights; we take notes in class
without thinking about how to write. In the long term the frequency
of these behaviors may depend on the consequences (the payoffs for
driving or writing), but at any one moment it is primarily the stimuli
in the environment that control our behavior. This paper will focus
on how the following two trends influence the employee behavior
in the workplace: 1) the influence of ethics on decision-making 2) the
impact of technology on work-related stress.
Organizational Behavior Trends
The behavior patterns and beliefs that shape an organization’s culture
have the profound ability to enable or prevent the company from
achieving its strategic objectives. By becoming clear about the kind
of culture that supports the organization’s vision and business
strategy, the organization will have the ability to target culture
change efforts in order to align its organization's culture to achieve
strategic success. This paper will explore the influence of ethics on
decision-making, as well as focus on the impact of technology on
work-related stress.
The values, beliefs, and norms expressed in an organization’s actual
practices and behavior may be different from what the business strives
to be as an organization, and what values it hopes to endorse. The
building blocks of these shared values are the values of individuals
within the organization. While culture evolves over time, within the
organization continually modifies by influences external to the
organization, in the form of values introduced by new members.
Culture drives the organization and its actions; and guides how
employees think, act and feel. It is dynamic and fluid, and it is
never static.
At Bank of Hawaii, the Board of Directors is committed to providing
leadership that ensures the long-term success of the Corporation and
maximizing shareholder value over time. They have developed, and
adopted, the Corporate Governance Guidelines (Code of Ethics) to
assist the Board in its responsibilities in serving the shareholders
and the Corporation. The Guidelines provide the general structure
within which the Board may conduct its business and are subj...

...illiamson further notes that a survey of U.S.
employees “who had access to the Internet both at work and at home
surfed the web for 3.7 hours per week in the office, but compensated
for that by spending 5.9 hours of their leisure time on work-related
projects” (9).
From luxury to accessory, technology has now become a necessity in the
workplace. We are living in a digital world and our lifestyles have
changed; and unethical is not utilizing such advancement. On a final
note, David Williamson again quotes Euryn Williams, “It’s about seeing
the technology as an opportunity rather than a threat” (9).

James T. Johnson was a young man who had a good job working as a construction worker. Although, he had a job and worked every day he still lived at home with his mother. Furthermore, he was the type of young man who went to work on time and after work he would come home. Unfortunately, there were occasions where he would go out with a few of his co-workers on a Friday he still came home afterwards. Nevertheless, he was hiding a secret from his mother that later led to him being arrested. Now, rather than James uses his money he had earned from working, he burglarized homes and garages in the communities in his area. After burglarizing these homes he would then sell the items he had stolen via the internet or a pawn shop in two different counties.
Nonverbal communication surrounds us all the time. “Nonverbal communication is all aspects of communication other than words” (Wood, 2016, p. 135). It is not communication with words, but we use nonverbal communication when we talk. We use nonverbal communication without even realizing it in every facet of our lives. This type of communication can be challenging depending on someone’s culture. Something that means one thing in America, can mean something totally different in another country. It is important to know this so that you don’t offend someone from another culture (Wood, 2016, p. 149).
The core principles of Applied Behavior Analysis were seen in several of this weeks required readings, appearing in all or multiple sources. Their definitions varied in each reading, all providing more clarification upon the previous. The first term, applied, refers to the "commitment to affecting improvements" in the field. (Cooper 16) Baer, Wolf and Risley said that whether or not something is applied is determined "by the interest which society shows in the problems being studied." (Baer 92) Both sets of authors emphasize that importance of the practitioner taking ownership in dictating how important it is to change the designated behavior. Also, the importance the behavior holds in society, because many of them represent the clients
The man is chained to the desk, and a beaming light pierces his robin egg-colored eyes. The next thing he hears are muffled voices. The voices now become more clear, and then the first words become comprehensible,”We caught you”. The man then hangs his head in mortification. He was a world class criminal, and had never been snagged before, until now. He has no idea how they captured him. He had hacked into the police department's network and checked on their painfully slow, monotonous progression of their investigation into his previous offenses. Then he remembers the story he heard flash on to the news, “Police Department need to hire more Shrinks to help Reduce Crime.” He then had that moment that in the movies, lightbulb magically appears
“A refreshed mind is a creative and productive one,” is a quote written by Kathy Bell, in her book Regression (Bell). In a society that is continuing to regress to the ways of previous historical times, does it make you think that maybe no one is working to keep their mind refreshed and allow our society to grow as opposed to it going backwards? Particular aspects of our society are regressing to ways that can be compared to those of the Paleolithic period, including the way our society's gender roles are portrayed, our ideology and how we treat people, and being civilized. We are reverting to women being the homebodies and taking care of their children and given high expectations, and men being the one in charge. Today's society, like the Paleolithic culture, has a monotheistic religion, and have put people back into groups similar to the groups the Paleolithic people traveled in. Our society today is also turning back and losing its civility, and becoming a selfish, uncaring group of people as a whole.
There are many things to learn from this article written by Donald Baer, Montrose Wolf, and Todd Risley. It is a very informing article in which you can learn about the current dimensions of applied behavior analysis. The seven dimensions mentioned are: applied, behavioral, analytic, technological, conceptually systematic, effective, and generality.
Every single day is a struggle for an autistic child and his or her family. Autism affects all aspects of a child’s life from their ability to show affection to their family to being able to do simple tasks such as communicating and thinking in ways that we take for granted. Autism is defined as a developmental disability in which children experience abnormalities in social functioning, language, often act in puzzling ways, and usually appears before the age of three (Mash &Wolfe, 2010). Although the exact causes of autism are unknown there does seem to be a strong genetic component. Having a child or family member with autism is a constant battle of emotion and frustration. Everyone wants to help the people they love when they have difficulty adapting but the difficulty in helping a child with autism arises in the fact that these children do not think or process information like everyone else does making it very difficult to reach them and help them function in a society they don’t understand. Skinner (1963) and his early work led the way in finding a method for assisting people with autism and aiding them in gaining wider ranges of functioning and better quality of life.
According to Kottak, “Window on Humanity” Behavioral modernity is “the advent of modern human behavioral capabilities based on symbolic thought and language, in addition to modern anatomy” or in other words a series of traits that characterize, connect and sort of differentiate Homo sapiens from their recent ancestors, other primates and other extinct hominin. It’s a particular moment in time where homo sapiens begin to display cultural creativity and shows evidence of abstract thought. Modern human behavior is the main component of culture; we as human beings create symbols which then form language.
There a several methods within ABA that guide professionals in helping their clients acquire new skills, overcome personal conflicts and behaviors. Both desirable and undesirable behaviors can be altered with different techniques under ABA. For the cases of Brenda and Mrs. Riley I will answer questions related to Behavior chaining and the use of the token economy.
This essay will examine the strength of the link between attitudes and behaviour and show that attitudes do not always predict behaviour as there are a number of variables that need to be put in place before the evaluation of a person behaving according to their attitudes can be assessed. These variables will be discussed in some detail. The three component model will be discussed and also attitude formation will be touched upon, before the link between behaviour and attitude can be examined a general understanding of how and why attitudes are formed needs to be addressed.
Applied behavior Analysis (ABA) is the scientific application of set principals of operant behavior that branch off of the behaviorism philosophical approach of behavior. The core principals of Applied Behavior Analysis are to target an individual’s behavior for change that has a real life application for the individual. Moreover, of Applied Behavior Analysis seeks to discover the environmental variables that influence the individual behavior while simultaneously demonstrates a functional relationship between the manipulated environmental behavior and the target behavior.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is one of the most widely recognized and sought out treatments for persons diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ABA is based upon more than 50 years of scientific investigation with individuals affected by a wide range of behavioral and developmental disorders (Skinner). It is an ABA based approach that contains the fundamental characteristics to educate those effected with ASD.
Communication is a worldwide skill used among people to talk to each other and clarifybeliefs, thoughts and opinions or build relationships with one another; however, this is not the only form of communication. Non-verbal communication entails of communication without words; it is displayed by the body and actions of a person sharing them. This type of communication is important when understanding human behavior. Does non-verbal communication difference among cultures?
... converting plastic waste into useful products are being affected by pollution; this contamination is found within containers where plastics are collected. But the same risk of pollution carries downside consequences in which workers and people responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the plastic materials are not doing the best to eliminate plastic waste, and to disinfect the infected bacteria and microorganisms from the atmosphere and environment. Organizations from China and India are the largest in the world, they collect and purchase used plastic from United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America (Minguez 2013). These companies do not bother to sanitize the products before the recycling process; for this reason the planet earth is getting a worse environmental condition, and it is destroying lives of living beings, and natural resources as well (Uddin 2014).
A minimum wage is an hourly wage that is established by the government which represents the minimum amount an individual receives per hour. The federal minimum wage was established in 1938 under the “Presidency of Franklin Roosevelt” (Henderson). Currently, majority of the states have their minimum wage less than $10. However, the federal government wants to increase the minimum wage to $12 across the United States. The federal government believes that increasing the minimum wage will assist numerous people in the United States as most individuals are working in a minimum wage job to support their families. About “75.3 million people ages sixteen and over worked for hourly wages in 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics” (“Minimum Wage”). Meaning almost a quarter of the workforce of this nation are working a minimum wage job. Numerous people believe that these workers are not able to make their ends meet, and increasing the minimum wage will help these individuals substantially. Even though people believe that increasing the minimum wage will benefit the society, they tend to overlook the drawbacks of increasing the minimum wage, and how it will prove to be detrimental for the society.
