Classroom Management Plan
A. The philosophy that I am developing behind my classroom management plan is one that is based on clear communication with my students. I believe that it is important to value relationships with students because that is the starting point of creating a classroom climate that is positive and consistent. It is my goal to cultivate self-directed students so that the behavior management is not taking up lots of valuable class time. Although school seems competitive in its nature because we use grades as the form of evaluation, it is my thought that competition in the classroom should be limited because this will increase better behavior and achievement in all students. Promoting the success of all students rather than promoting a competitive classroom will help each student feel that they are part of a community that wants them to do well. Another important component of my classroom management plan also includes me looking at my own biases and being aware that my own values and beliefs will inevitably appear in my teaching. It is important to me that this is monitored closely so that I am creating an environment that is fair and comfortable for all students.
All young children and students want to learn about the world around them and come to school with a good amount of internal motivation. That internal motivation can either be fostered or killed by the classroom and school experience. ...pired by all of the interesting new information we are learning. Students will create drawings, painting, and poems that appeal to them. They will not be judged or labeled; they will just be appreciated for what they are. Students need an outlet and I plan on allowing them an opportunity for experiencing education that is fun and not filled with anxiety. Before my students leave they will line up and I will thank them for their presence and tell them all that I look forward to seeing them tomorrow.
I realize with Open Court and other needs to meet curriculum standards this sort of classroom seems idealistic. I will just have to explain to my principal that this is what I have to do to feel that I am serving my students properly. I will be a motivated teacher and I hope that I will motivate students to love learning as much as I do.
This observation made me think about my teaching statement I wrote at the beginning of the quarter and how I might change my thoughts on how a classroom should look after seeing one in progress. The classroom is no longer hours of pencil and paper work; it is a vibrant learning space with motion and commotion, all organized and supervised by a caring teacher.
Students must be able to be active in their want of education. It is essential that students are able to interact with peers and teachers in order to completely understand daily learning. Students also need to be motivated on what they are learning. This role is also part of the teacher’s role as well.

My personal philosophy of classroom management focuses on creating an environment where children feel safe and where they feel like they belong. I will create this environment for my fourth grade class through making my expectations of the students clear while developing an engaging lesson plan and personable interactions with my students. I developed my philosophy from studying different theorists and based my philosophy on the theories of Glasser and Kounin. Glasser believed that the teacher’s roll in the classroom is that of a leader rather than a boss. He believed that students should be given power in the classroom and that the teacher should share it with the students. I will use his ‘7 caring habits’ specifically supporting and respecting to help my classroom feel safe and welcoming to my students. Meeting the individual needs of my students will be the focus of my classroom management routine. I will meet individual needs by promoting self management and self efficacy in my students by creating an environment that that has predictable and consistent daily routines while focusing on my student’s successes (Shindler, 2010). Having a predictable routine will encourage a success oriented environment and will reduce anxiety and help towards creating positive self efficacy in each of my students (Shindler, 2010). In Glasser’s Choice Theory he talks about focusing on the present and not bringing up the past (Glasser, 2010). As the individuals have unique skills and have different style of doing work one should take a moment to appreciate the teamwork. Considering the result of the tasks which is required to achieve and complement each individual’s contribution in achieving it. The successful team project maximizes the member’s talents and empower the teamwork ability which comes from the group’s cohesion which is focused on a common goal.
Europe has seen many wars over its vast and broad history, some of which being quite immense and destructive. One such war would undoubtedly be World War One. A war powered by the brainwashing ways of militarism and the stubborn pride of nationalism. Once engaged in a war a country’s militarism will produce fine soldier ready to drop like dominos on the battlefield, while the nationalism works as fuel providing the naive determination to fight the war. This naïve determination and soldier production is why World War One, like every other war, continued with such persistency. But what started World War One? Was it militarism that trained young men since they were kids to become soldiers, nationalism propelling a nations pride forward or was it neither? While both of those aspects could be potential reasons their still not the main pillars of cause. The true reason’s that made World War One inevitable were the intimidating alliances, avaricious imperialism, and tedious tensions.
Each year, as a new group of students enter my classroom, I will encourage them to be expressive of their imaginations in their favorite subjects, whether it will be art, literature, math or music. We all have rules and regulations to follow, and each student will know that there is no exception in the school or the classroom. Another goal in my classroom will be to keep the students excited about learning, not to treat school as a game or a social event, but to encourage a unique and fun atmosphere to learn.
The job of a teacher is never easy but we have seen how cooperative discipline and enabling students to feel capable, connected and contributing can improve classroom management and maybe even our own moods. If we create an environment of mutual respect and give our students legitimate power of voice and choice in the classroom we will see positive results in improved student behavior and student achievement. Psychologist Abraham Maslow stated that human motivation is based on people seeking fulfillment and change through personal growth. Maslow has created a theory of the hierarchy of needs which are presented in five levels. The first level of needs is physiological or survival needs, which are the basic and important needs in the human life. These are the needs of food, water, shelter, clothing, etc. The second level of needs is the safety needs, which is the need to be secure from dangers, safe environment, stability order and security. The third level of needs the love needs which grow by the group acceptance, affiliation, friends, and relationships. The fourth level of needs is the esteem needs, the need of personal worth, success and achievement. The fifth level of needs is the self-actualization describes about a healthy individuals prime motivation. I believe Classroom Management is the main component in the educational setting. I believe if students are in a safe environment, then learning can take place. This doesn’t mean punishing behavior problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students would not be able to learn.
It causes them to think, plan and make decisions according to the team. In the past teamwork culture has taken a backseat. However with changing times, organizations understood the importance of nurturing and promoting the culture of teamwork (p.1). In order to promote teamwork, management leaders need to clearly communicate to everyone that the expectation of exceptional work is not just an individual level but at a team level and collaboration is expected out of every team (p.2). Teams that are demonstrating teamwork should be recognized. According to Conway (n.d) “ set expectations that bonuses, rewards, or compensation will vary depending on the collaborative practices adopted and followed by each team along with the individual achievements and contribution as a team member (p.2). Management should also share the outstanding achievements with other teams and organizations, so that people feel encouraged to participate and nature the team work culture
The Hierarchy of needs theory, by Maslow, shows the basic and the advanced needs that the person should fulfill to reach his or her highest potential. That is why the theory is best depicted as a pyramid including seven stages. The first stage is physiological needs: water, body temperature, sleep, and sex. When one satisfies those needs, he or she can go to the next stage. Safety needs is the second stage. Here, the person is concerned about his safety and stability, so he tries to find a good job to support himself financially, and also find a good home in a safe place. The third stage is belongingness and love. To love and be loved and accepted becomes very important in this stage, so the person starts to worry about his relationships. Being accepted and loved will lead successfully to the fourth stage, which is esteem needs. In this level, the person is more concerned about achieving and gaining approval. In many cases, it has become very complex to keep students interested in their education. So the teacher must be creative and find ways to keep pushing the student onward as well as upward. In order to devise the ultimate plan for educating students, a teacher must acknowledge that the “students” are what teaching is all about. The most important factor in the equation is unequivocally the STUDENT! All humans are different in some sort or fashion. But the fact still exists that we all have only this place to function in. So help by putting forth an effort to make it a better place for us all.
As a teacher I feel it is my responsibility to prepare my students for the inevitable changes that will occur in their lives by instilling confidence and knowledge while presenting myself as a good role model. Teachers play such an important role in a child’s life, sometimes being their only source of encouragement and support. As a teacher, I want to know my students; their personality, learning style, and academic level, so I can meet their needs and create the best learning environment possible.
