Raising the Minimum Age for Driving Motorcycles to Twenty-One
In this essay I will discuss whether it would be better for society
and for the motorcyclist if the minimum age for driving would be
raised to 21 years. I will discuss the monetary and non-monetary
benefits, the private costs and benefits and the social costs and
benefits. I will also discuss and explain rationality and
maximization.
Rationality is making a well thought through decision weighing all
factors involved. In this case some of the rational decisions that
need to be made are if you want to buy new gear or used. This will of
course make a huge difference when you talk about the price. Another
rational decision you need to make is how often you want to use and
what you want to use it for. This will help you to decide what sort of
gear and motorcycle would best suit you.
Maximization is a secure optimal solution. An example of this is how
often you want to use and what you want to use it for. This will help
you to decide what sort of gear and motorcycle would best suit you.
Depending on what you want to use your motorcycle for you will be able
to make the optimal decision regarding the equipment you choose to
buy.
The private costs of riding a motorcycle are helmets, leather
clothing, protection, gas and insurance. A new helmet costs about 150
euros. The price range is everywhere from 50 euros to 500 depending on
the type of helmet you prefer. The leather clothing that you will need
when you are riding a motorcycle can cost anywhere from 150 to 1000
euros. The average, new, one piece leather suit however costs about
500 euros. The protection that you need when riding a motorcycle is a
back protector and knee guards. A back protector can cost anywhere
from 20 to 120 euros. The average back protector costs approximately
70 euros. The knee protectors can vary from about 10 euros to 60 and
the average knee protector costs 30 euros.
Maturity and rationalization is not yet achieved or experienced by teenagers. In the era of technology there are several distractions for drivers of any age to maneuver. Parents can play an educational role by enrolling their teen into a driver’s educational program. Some states require students to complete a comprehensive graduated drivers licensing (GDL) program prior to receiving their license. The brain function is still developing in teenagers and may impede the quick thinking process necessary to become a responsible driver. For the safety and welfare of teenagers the age requirement in Arizona for a driver’s license should be increased from 16 to 18 years of age.
Today, many teenagers work hard to obtain their license starting at age 15 by getting their permit. Many parents encourage their children to get their license and gain these privileges, however some encourage their kids to wait and many states agree. Driving age is commonly set at sixteen, but because of safety concerns, the idea of raising the driving age to eighteen is currently posed by state legislation. Increasing the driving age to eighteen is a smart decision because teenagers are seen as irresponsible, they are more likely to get into accidents, and teens can become easily distracted.
features to make it adequate for this system. Some of the features we will not
“I am superman; I am invincible”, is what one young man thought of himself on August 30, 2009. He left a friend’s house with a young woman in the car with him; it was a dark night and he was feeling good about himself. He thought he would try to impress the young girl and went way too fast. As he topped the hill, he ran off the road, over-corrected, and lost control of his vehicle. The accident claimed both their lives. Numerous car accidents involve young teenage drivers. Raising the minimum driving age to 16 would greatly reduce the number of automobile accidents involving teen drivers because they lack experience on the road, they lack maturity, and they would have less accidents resulting in safer roads.
There’s been a lot of debate going on in regards to the legal driving age. Should we keep it as it is (16 years old) or raise it (18 years old)? Which is safer? Do we need to? Well, I’m here to tell you that there’s no need to change the driving age limit. In fact, raising the age should be a last resort.
Driving is something people do everyday. Although many people do it well, some do not, that being said the legal age to drive should be raised to twenty one years of age. The driving age should be raised because teens at the ages of fourteen through twenty should not be behind the wheel for the simple fact that they are just too young and too inexperienced to drive, also someone of that age can get more distracted than a person who is twenty-one or older and has had some time to mature and become responsible enough to operate a motor vehicle. “In the United States, 16–19-year-olds have the highest incidence of motor vehicle deaths among licensed drivers and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15–20-year-olds.” (Haggerty
In recent years, the legal driving age has become a topic of heated debate. There are many supporters that advocate for raising the legal driving age to eighteen or twenty-one. However, raising the driving age would cause some major problems. Sixteen should remain the legal driving age in most states and areas because the economic burden would be extremely large and the problems related to young drivers would not be adequately solved by simply rising the legal driving age. This essay will outline the reasons why the legal driving age should not be raised and what some of the better choices are instead.
The driving age should not be raised to 18 because It gives teenagers the opportunity to become more responsible, Independent, and more experience on the road.
Teenagers have the highest average of annual traffic violations than any other age group in the U.S. (Teen Drivers:Get The Facts). This may be one reason why over 100 countries, including most of Europe, have a minimum driving age set at 18. Although the debate over raising the driving age to 18, in the U.S, has been an ongoing argument for many years, researchers have found that raising the driving age would drastically impact the U.S in a positive way. (McBride). Parents say that this would be a benefit because teens would be held responsible for their own actions, since they would be an adult, and parent involvement would no longer be necessary. They also say they want to keep their teen’s safe but not sure if raising the age by 2 years would actually help. Scientist has concluded that even though it is only by 2 years the brain is more developed and teens are more mature.(Crowe). Meaning they would be more focused on the road instead of other distractions. Raising the driving age to 18 would be the best decision for the U.S.
You are driving and your favorite song is on then, BAM! You are blindsided and hit by another car. The State of Ohio should change the driving age for teenagers. Some requirements for the driving age are you have to get a temporary license at the age of sixteen and take classes, but to get your temporary license you need to pass a vision test and a DMV written test (apply). I think the rule should be stricter because kids may be too immature to drive. Teenage drivers should not be able to drive at sixteen years of age because the teenagers can lack maturity, it can mentally and physically help others, and there will not be as many car accidents.
Also the nature of the medium permits a person to research about the products and services that are being consumed.
Many teens are interested in being able to drive at a younger age, but it is still unclear if they are able to handle it. If the legal driving age is lowered, are we endangering the lives of teen drivers, as well as the passengers with them? I believe most people want to drive as soon as they can. However, recently the government has been trying to pass laws that may change the current driving age of 16. There are positive and negative aspects to changing the laws that allow the driving age to stay at 16.There have been new bills being proposed that mite be passed. “The Minister for Urban Services has introduced a Bill (proposed law) into the Assembly. He wants to amend the Road Transport (Driver Licensing) Act 2000. The new Bill is called the Driving Age Amendment Bill. This Bill is intended to raise the age at which people can apply for a learner’s permit and driver’s license.” (Legislative Assembly). This bill will raise the driving age if it is passed but the aspects of what will happen should be considered before we change it. There are many different reasons why we should keep it at 16. First off it’s a good working system that we have followed for a long time. Another good reason that helps this concept is that the teenagers are still in school so it’s easier for them to take drivers training. If there are more drivers that ultimately mean that more people will be paying for insurance. There are also the reasons why we should change it from 16. Like for instances most 16 year olds aren’t responsible enough to drive. “The facts show that younger drivers (those between ages 16 and 25) receive more citations, are more likely to have their driving privilege suspended, and are responsible for more accidents than drivers in any other age group.” (Dr. Steven Evans). Another reason is that it’s a high cost own a car when they are making so little money.
How old is old enough to drive? Most would argue the legal driving age of sixteen seems appropriate for someone to begin taking the wheel, while others say that twenty-one is a more sufficient age. Even though raising or maintaining the driving age at sixteen contain both pros and cons, major facts need to come to consideration if the driving age ever increases. As a teenager driving, I believe that people wanting to raise the driving age do not realize the negative effect that that would cause. For instance, if the age increased, teenagers would lose independence and freedom, parents would have to sacrifice their time and freedom, and even though teenagers die in car crashes every year, it would not decrease the overall number of deaths per year.
