Discussing the Relevance of the Bible for Christians Today
All world religions have sacred scriptures. They all teach that the
world and universe were created, and that the universe has a purpose.
Humans also have a purpose, which is explained in the Bible. Modern
historians, archaeologists and scientists have stated that texts of
the Bible are historical documents. Many of the writers of the Bible
have influenced the world and its teachings have been taught all
around the world.
There are many modern problems in the world today. The writers of the
Bible who were inspired by God (as many Christians believe) knew
nothing about nuclear weapons, surrogate mothers, or test tube babies.
Very generally, Christians would say that the essential teachings of
the Bible are relevant to people today, whether it be a strong
Fundamentalist view, or a more realistic liberal view, as many
Christians combine a conservative view with the liberal ones. Human
nature does not change and the teachings in the Bible are eternal.
Non-Christians could argue that mankind's attitudes and society has
changed, our technological capacity has increased, and so they regard
the Bible as unimportant and irrelevant today. This is because the
Bible was written in a very different agricultural society. The
development in the field of science has altered the opinions of
others. Scientists have tried to explain events that took place in
biblical times. They have devised their own theories to explain
miraculous events in an attempt to play down many of the spectacular
situations that occurred.
One of the Ten Commandments teaches Christians not to kill: ‘you shall
not murder (exodus 20:13)’, this particular teaching still applies
today and so is a part of the Bible that is very relevant for
Christians living nowadays. The Bible has to be relevant because it is
the foundation of the faith. In the beginning God created heavens and
earth (Genesis 1:1). This is the very foundation of the faith, and all
Christians need to know where the roots of Christianity lie, and where
The Study of Christian history and Christian practices, from my perspective, is imperative in the journey of any seminarian. Every major event of today has its roots in the history of our society and the history of the world. In the same way, Christian practices have their roots in the both the history and the historical practices of the Christian church. Our readings the Context Matters portal course and specifically the practices of the Christian church, are important for this same reason If we are to understand the “why” of why we do things we must look at how they have been done before and how they have been practiced in the past.
The Bible as a Historical Document MARK'S THEOLOGY REFLECTED IN WRITING Mark and the other evangelists used basically five ways to change, edit or enhance Jesus' sayings to reflect their own views of Christianity. According to the Five Gospels Book, plagiarism and changing of writing was not a crime, but actually very common Mark's time. Besides, Mark never knew Jesus first-hand, he somehow had to make a 'story' from basically Hearsay!
God is a word sent forth without the support of God’s will; hence, revealing the individuals position; a place outside of God’s government. This is important to understand because it is by the Word of God being spoken and properly exercised in your life that will prepare you for the great things the Lord has in store for you. Not one ounce, portion, or part of the Word of God can be omitted if the individual is to walk in harmony with the Lord.
the gap that existed between man and God because of sin, has been bridged. His precious blood that was shed on the cross wiped away all our sins. Furthermore, the death of Christ means humanity received grace; “grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” According to John the Baptist in John 1:18, know one has set eyes on the Father, but through Jesus Christ, who is in close relation with God the Father, has made Him known.
Sacred texts and writings are integral to a living and dynamic religious tradition. Such texts are materials that can range from verbally spoken stories to writings. Sacred texts and writings provide followers with information on core ethical behaviour, rituals and ceremonies, as well as beliefs. The idea of the texts and writings being sacred refers to the texts encompassing divine inspiration. Christianity’s sacred texts and writings, such as the bible (conveyed as the word of God), are continually studied/interpreted throughout generations. The teachings of the bible and the ‘Ten Commandments’ provide Christians with morally accepted standards of behaviour to live their lives by and thus directly influence the day-today actions of its adherents. Furthermore, sacred texts and writings provide information on beliefs, which assist adherents in understanding and even answering significant enduring questions of life. For instance, the creation story ...
Is it possible to declare yourself to be of the Christian faith, but not live in a way that reflects this? In other words, is simply believing in Jesus enough? According to the scriptures, it is not. To have genuine faith in Christ, one must live their life in a way that expresses their faith.
Worldview is how you view certain views from a certain perspective, such as a Christian worldview would be how you view certain views from a Christian perspective. Everything in life is affected by worldview and everyone has one. As Christians, our worldview is using the Bible for our starting on our views. An example of a worldview is, according to the article “What is a Christian Worldview?”, “Christianity as taught in the Bible is itself a worldview.” 77 words.
When I think about my worldview it requires faith. Hebrews 11:1 say ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Because I haven’t seen God does not mean He does not exist. We breathe air and can’t see it, but we believe it’s there. Some people do not want to know the truth, but I do. I believe in God. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Creator of us all. Genesis 1:1 say’s In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The Bible also lets me know that God has always existed. John1:1 say’s In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God”. Plato talked about the only real world was in your mind. Which is an idea. Once you think it, conceive it, and believe it, it’s done.
Human identity can be summed up by looking at it from two perspectives. Who we are in our natural state and who we are in Christ. Mankind in his natural state is driven by his sin nature. Romans 1-8 perfectly lays out who and what we are in our natural state. It also lays out who and what we are in Christ. “For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin.” (Romans 3:9 NIV) In Romans 1:29-31, Paul gives a long list of wicked behaviors that are still prevalent in today’s society, which lets me know that we, in our natural state, are the same as we always have been. There are no exceptions to the rule, besides that of Christ. “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (3:23) Paul emphasizes in Romans 1-3 how people have tried to free themselves from their sin nature by depending on the Law to no avail. The Law could not bring about justification (Acts 13:39), produce righteousness (Galatians 2:21), produce life (Galatians 3:21), bring about perfection (Hebrews 7:19) or free the conscience from a knowledge of sin (Hebrews 10:1-4). (Johnson, 1896) The fact is that God’s standards are perfect and we alone can never live up to them by any religious act or moral behavior. The good news is that God knew all of this. He knew that by our strength alone, we could not overcome our own sin nature. He sent us a perfect sacrifice to permanently fulfill the Law. That sacrifice was his only Son, Jesus Christ. “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.” (Romans 3:25) Through faith in Jesus Christ, the grace of God has been given to us. Now, rather than being bound we are made free. Instead of unrighteousness abounding in ou...
In the Biblical era many civilians had a completely different life than ours, and their life was not as simple as ours. Most people in the biblical century an everyday life consisted of living in rural areas and harsh work in order to provide for the family. Many people believe life, in Ancient Biblical times, was not as tough as some people set it out to be, however many people had to suffer from hard work, diseases, slavery, daunting occupations, and poor quality clothing.

Protestants believe that the scriptures should be held above all else when it comes to Christianity. The “word” that is found in these scriptures is considered to be the rule of faith and practice. Hodge uses the example from the 39 articles in the Church of England that says scriptures contain everything necessary for salvation. This example is used by Hodge to add to his argument the importance of scripture. One of the major themes of Hodge’s work is that the Protestants believe that God is the inspiration for scriptures. The Protestants also believe that scripture tells us exactly what we need to know. The introduction to the text defines us three things that Protestants believes. The first is that they believe that Scriptures are the word of god and were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, secondly the scriptures contain supernatural revelations about God, and lastly the scriptures can be understood by the people without an interpreter or mediator.
Paul writes 1 Timothy with instruction to Timothy, a young man who responded to Christ’s call to help build His church. Timothy was one of the apostle Paul’s special assistants.
