Hypothesis:Deforestation is a global issue, not just one country's
problem.
I have been asked to write an assignment on the effects and causes of
the deforestation-taking place in the Amazon rainforest. During this
assignment I shall investigate the following topics:
· Why has deforestation taken place in the Amazon rainforest?
· Can the government of Brazilsolve this major
· Before and after destruction issue?
· What are the developments in the rainforest?
· What are the negative consequences of deforestation?
· Identify the main green house gases and the reasons for their
increase.
· How dose deforestation in Brazil effect its government and the rest
of the world?
Why has Deforestation taken place in the Amazon Rainforest?
The clearing of tropical forests across the globe has been occurring
in one form or the other for many years. Deforestation, involves the
cutting down, and burning of rainforests to attain resources. If the
current rate of deforestation continues, the world's rain forests will
vanish and disappear of the face of the earth within the next 100
years, causing catastrophic effects on global climate and the loss of
thousands of plant and animal species.
Deforestation occurs in many forms. The majority of the clearing is
used for agricultural purposes, such as grazing cattle and planting
crops. The native people of the rainforests, the Amerindians, chop
down a small area and burn the land to clear it in a process called
Slash and Burn. Today, agriculture occurs on a much larger scale, with
many acres of land being destroyed. Multi National Companies, such as
McDonalds, purchase h...

But there are more serious and harmful effects of deforestation, which
does not only affect Brazil but the rest of the world as well.
As the Amazon Rainforest is being cut away, so are the lungs of the
world. The Amazon Rainforest provides us with 20% of the worlds oxygen
and as we cut it away, we are throwing our oxygen away aswell
indirectly and are increasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The
plants of the rainforest also may hold the cure to many deadly
illnesses people have such as aids and cancer which we are still to
discover but we may not have the chance to do so because at the rate
the rainforest is being destroyed today, scientist predict that the
Amazon rain forest could be wiped off the face of the earth in as
little as forty years.
Deforestation has accumulated many multifaceted controversies over time. The main one, however, is the impact deforestation has on water flow. People have different perceptions on how deforestation affects the flow of water, this lead to a controversy between conservationists and a group of theorists. Many years ago, water was used as a way for almost all the mills to function. Changes in the ecosystem depend on the rate and extent of deforestation and determines how drastic the changes will be.
Deforestation is fast becoming one of the world’s worst environmental/geographical occurring disasters known to mankind, and is due to humankind’s greed, ignorance and carelessness when considering the future of our environment.
Unlike some other places in the world, North America does not have a huge issue with deforestation. We have seen a large increase in forest density and acreage in the past one hundred years. The use of wood helps decrease the CO2 in out atmosphere and it becomes a carbon sink. Trees help take in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen during photosynthesis – which is important right? Right! Deforestation is the second major human cause of global warming as is the pollution of air, water, and viable oils. Disturbance of these resources can disintegrate the food chain which is not only important to animals, but, humans too.
Environmental issues affect every life on this planet from the smallest parasite to the human race. There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. The wood from the forests are used everyday form many useful resources. Moreover, thinning the forests increases the amount of available light, nutrients and water for the remaining trees. Deforestation (forest thinning) is one of the most critical issues of environmental problems that are occurring today.
The government in Indonesia is a system where a group of people organize the state of Indonesia. The governmental causation of deforestation in Indonesia mostly includes the Swidden agriculture and slash and burn which are highly destructive to the forest. The slash and burn in Indonesia or Swidden agriculture is a method used where farmers would cut down part of the vegetation in the area and set fire it to clear areas of land to be used for farming such as palm oil. The fire used is very unstable and can easily get out of hand.
Deforestation Issues in Sub-Saharan Africa Africa provides one of the most highly destructive environmental issues throughout the whole world. In fact, Sub-Saharan Africa has been known to have major impacts with the largest amounts of deforestation, the loss of forests from cutting down too many trees and not re-planting them back. According to the World Resource Institute, Washington DC stated, “More than 80 percent of the earth's natural forests have already been destroyed at a rate of about 40 million hectares per year. Up to 90 percent of West Africa's coastal rain forests have disappeared since 1900. Loss of habitats is among the obvious consequences of deforestation` (seventy percent of the Earth's biodiversity is present in forests).
life is essential to life on earth as it produces much of the oxygen that is
home to some 50 to 70 % of all life form on our planet. It has been
Deforestation, defined by biologist Charles Southwick as "the destruction of forests; may involve clear-cutting or selective logging" (p. 365), is a predominantly human-driven process that is dramatically altering ecosystems worldwide. "Clear-cutting" involves the indiscriminant removal of every single plant and tree species from within a selected area. The other major process of deforestation, "selective logging," focuses removal efforts on only specific, predetermined tree species within a chosen area. The statistics gathered about human deforestation over time are considerable, and they can be somewhat controversial. Depending on the source and the location selected, the magnitude of deforestation varies. Southwick estimates that, approximately 10,000 years ago, 6.2 billion hectares (23.9 million square miles) of forest existed on earth (p. 117). That figure is equivalent to 45.5% of the earth's total land. He further estimates that, by 1990, this amount had declined 30%, with only 4.3 billion hectares of forest remaining (p. 117). Southwick also acknowledges other estimates that place the total amount of deforestation between 50% and 75% (p. 117). NASA has similar deforestation statistics that confirm these trends. According to their website, 16.5% of the Brazilian Amazon forests have been destroyed. They also note similar magnitudes of deforestation in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam), despite the significantly smaller total area of forest within these countries. These grim figures are somewhat tempered by the NASA finding that, over the past ten years, the deforestation rate has declined from 6,200 square miles per year to 4,800 square miles per year. Though this trend is n...
General Information: First off, deforestation is the clearing of forests or areas with trees to be converted into something else after. There are a few different ways forests are cleared. Clear cutting is simply removing everything in sight. Patch cutting is the removal of trees in specified patches. Strip cutting is removing trees in selected strips. The most environmentally friendly method is known as selective cutting. This is the removal of only selected trees, leaving the others un-harmed. The technique used most during deforestation is the slash and burn technique. This uses the basic cutting method of clear cutting, but afterwards everything that remains is burned to ash.
Deforestation has been a big problem in China to this day. Throughout its long history, China has gone through several cycles, from mild recovery to severe deforestation. When the Communists took over China in 1949, they introduced many new policies and programs to bring about economic and political changes; however, shifts in policies have led to program shifts in every field of China’s economy, including deforestation. Deforestation exercises a significant influence on the ecosystem, stimulating natural disasters, introducing negative environmental and climatic changes, and threatening biodiversity. Floods are among the most common consequences of deforestation. During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), deforestation caused floods to occur every decade, and once every six years between 1921 and 1949, but once every two years in the 1980s. The situation has dramatically worsened since 1994, with the Yangtze flooding every year. Growing silting of rivers and lakes from the deforested lands in the Yangtze basin and encroachment on river beds by Chinese farmers resulted in record levels of floods in the summer of 1998. The building of The Three Gorges Dam is said to stop flooding greatly. As early as the 1950s deforestation in China attracted attention, but it was not until the 1960s that it assumed alarming proportions. The Land Reform of 1950 authorized state ownership of large forests and other types of land.

There is powerful evidence showing that clearing tress not only spews carbon into the atmosphere, it also leads to major shifts such as increased temperatures and rainfall worldwide
Deforestation is the elimination of existing trees from the earth; attributable factors include urbanization, logging, ranching, and farming and to some extent land speculation. Land speculation can be included as cleared land is more valuable than forested land. Deforestation, done in the name of progress, and the long-term, devastating effects of it, is killing our planet.
