Senator Orrin Hatch
Senator Orrin Hatch, a Republican representative for Utah, was born March twenty-second nineteen thirty-four in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Hatch's father, Jesse, was a hardworking metal lather and his mother, Helen, a devout woman. He grew up in a family of modest means. Yet, despite hard times, the senator's parents did everything possible to provide opportunities for Orrin, encouraging him to develop athletic skills, such as basketball and amateur boxing, a love of music and the arts, a passion for the law and our constitution. Hatch received his Bachelor of Science in nineteen fifty-nine from Brigham Young University, and his Juris Doctorate (doctor of law) degree from the University of Pittsburgh in nineteen sixty-two. Orrin has held many jobs, such as that of a lawyer, author, metal lather and musician. Senator Hatch has written the lyrics of hundreds of songs and has produced or co-produced even family, faith and country oriented CD's.
Hatch has been married for forty-three years to Elaine Hensen of Neuton Utah. They have six children, Brent (forty-nine), Marcia (thirty-nine), Scott (thirty-seven), Kimberly (thirty-four), Alysa (thirty) and Jess (twenty-nine) as well as, nineteen grandchildren. The sixty-seven years old Hatch and his family reside in Washington, D.C. No matter the issue political or personal, Hatch's conservative Mormon ways are carried over into both his work and his play.
Senator Orrin Hatch got his start in 1976 when Hatch upset three-term democratic incumbent Senator Frank Mass in the Utah senatorial contest with 54% of the votes. When he was re-elected in 1982, he had 58% in 1988, 67%, and in 1994, 69%. Hatch is now in his fifth term as a senator. He serves on the subcommittee on taxation as chairman, the senate judiciary committee as chairman, the select committee on intelligence, the committee on finance, the committee on indian affairs, the subcommittee on antitrust, the subcommittee on the constitution, the subcommittee on healthcare, the subcommittee on international trade and the subcommittee on terrorism. Senator Hatch has a power rank of seventeen of one hundred. This influence on the powers of congress is very high and his input into decision making is very outspoken and heard.
Hatch has been a leader in developing bi-partisan legislation in such high areas as balancing the budget, protection Medicare and social security, lowering taxes and improving health care services for children, seniors, the disabled, and the homebound.
This paper will be focusing on Robert Casey better known as “Bob” Casey the Senator from Pennsylvania. Casey was born and raised on April 13, 1960, in Scranton Pennsylvania. Casey; “graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 1982 and spent the following year teaching fifth grade and coaching eighth-grade basketball in inner city Philadelphia for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps”. (Senate.gov) Later on, he received his law degree from Catholic University in 1988. He married to his wife Teresa and has 4 children. In 2002 Casey wanted to follow his father into running for governor of Pennsylvania, however, he was defeated, later becoming the “treasurer” in the elections of 2004. Casey was first elected to the senate in 2006 as a Democrat, showing as one of the second highest victories since “1920” against an incumbent Senator. Later in 2012, he was re-elected becoming the first Democrat Senator into serving a full term and into being re-elected as a Pennsylvania Senator. Casey has become and followed the step of his father who was also a governor.

Her amendment prohibiting health insurance discrimination on the basis of genetic information is now law as part of the Kassebaum-Kennedy health bill. She also worked to pass and increase the funding for the Ryan White AIDS Care Act. As cochairman of the Senate Cancer Coalition, she presided over hearings that helped to win much-needed funds for cancer research at the National Cancer Institute and for a study by the National Institutes of Health on the high incidence of breast cancer rates in the San Francisco area (Leiman). Feinstein credits the Affordable Care Act for helping her citizens be in a better place health wise. She has worked to protect children from public health threats, lowering the cost of health insurance premiums, and helps research developing a cure for cancer and other diseases and illnesses.

Mr. Smith was appointed to be a Senator on a whim. He was the leader of the Boy Rangers with no political experience. He was principled with a clear view on right and wrong. Mr. Smith took his ideals as far as risking his career when he did not compromise in order to maintain his beliefs. In addition, special interest groups did not impact Mr. Smith's decisions. He was untouched by the corruption that he learned existed in the legislature. Yet upon discovering it, he did not change himself. Mr. Smith did not place any emphasis on re-election and did not care if people thought negatively about him as long as he remained with his values.
Justice Clarence Thomas was born in June 1948 and grew up in Georgia. He graduated at Yale Law School and served as the Assistant Attorney General in Missouri, practicing law in the private sector. In 1981 he was appointed Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education one year later, Justice Thomas was appointed Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by President Ronald Reagan. Ted Cruz was born on Dec 22, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta to Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson Darragh and Rafael Bienvenido Cruz. Shortly after Ted Cruz’s birth the oil industry slumped in Canada causing his parents to have to sell their seismic-data processing company. At the age of three Ted Cruz’s father would divorce his mother and move to Houston. It was not until, six months later that Eleanor moved to Houston with Ted, and remarried Rafael. Despite the marital issues with his parents he still retained a close relationship with both of them. Cruz considers his mother “a best friend” and an “unbelievably caring and loving person” (Bureau). At a young age Ted Cruz was invested heavily in religion and education. His father would read him the bible every day and make declarations of the word of God. While his mother would be heavily dedicated in put him in more than one private school these included the world renowned Awty International School, Faith West Academy and The Second Baptist High school where Cruz later graduated from as Valedictorian. Because Cruz talked about God with his father everyday this helped craft his views on religion that would later influence his career as a politician. As Cruz grew up he became more involved with conservative politics. This year happened to be the year when Ohio senator Mike DeWine's term ends. This of course meaning that there would have to be an election. This election for the one of the positions Ohio has in the United States senate. It would also mean that two men, one democrat and one republican, could be that senator.
