Jacksonian Democracy
The United States of America was founded by its people, for its people in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness, by attempting to provide freedom and equality. The way of life back when the government set down its foundation was quite different than it is now.
Some things were just considered natural law and were left out of law making and the Constitution because they were morally
accepted as right and wrong. For instance, I highly doubt that the government would have allowed Nazi party privileges to exist under
freedom of speech. The idea of "My rights end where yours begin" states that an individual has freedom until the freedom interferes
with the rights given to another. To create and maintain a quality form of government, one where privileges are not abused and
equality is taken seriously, we must decide how large a role we want the government to play in the maintaining of morals and natural
law. The use of all nine roles of government is needed to maximize the quality of democracy because it promotes the equality of
each individual. (Godwin&Wahlke 15-30) The four minimal roles of the government (protection and order, collective goods and
dilemmas, negative externalities and rights and duties) are generally accepted as a basis of what a government should
provide its people. The government must protect the safety of its people and protect itself from internal revolutions and external
invasions. Also, it attempts to improve the general welfare of its people by resolving collective dilemmas, minimizing negative
externalities and providing collective goods wherever possible. To do this, the government must specify and enforce the rights and
duties of its people. The four roles are...

attempting to maintain the greatest form of democracy known to the world today. The application of the nine roles of the government
needs to be conserved for the benefit of democracy in America.
The quality of the democracy is dependent on the moral foundations created by the people and accepted by the government. From
there, the foundation of Social Justices is determined, and the basis of providing economic efficiencies can be established. With an
understanding of the society's set beliefs, government intervention carries out and applies its views. The highest quality democracy
allows the greatest happiness for the greatest amount of people. By effectively applying all nine roles of government within society,
the quality of democracy will have an opportunity to reach its zenith.
“The government operates through competing interest groups rather than public opinion. The competing interest groups represent the people’s interest to government decision makers. Democracy exists when many (plural) organizations operate separately from the government, press their interests on the government, and even challenge the government.” The public is best served if the government structure provides access for different groups to press their claims in competition with one another. A pluralistic model of democracy allows minority interests to organize and press their claims on government freely also.
"There is no more important function for all of government to define the rights of its citizens." (Norman Dorsen)
Democracy is designed to concentrate the power of government in the hands of the people and protect against autocracy and oligarchy. It presupposes societies need a modicum of rule, as they cannot function if there is anarchy. In this way, democracy is a virtue, or a mean between two vices. However, democracy has a sliding scale, the metric of which is the citizens who rule it. Citizens ultimately dictate the laws to be agreed upon, codified and enacted. These laws not only govern behavior and maintain order, but also provide citizens with a mechanism to seek relief through the courts should they be aggrieved.
Philosophers have struggled with determining the proper role of government. In the absence of government and laws, people could do whatever they wanted, and some of them would try to slaughter others and steal their property. This is the state called anarchy. People have realized that the safety of the people and the country would be in jeopardy in such a state. Thus, it is necessary for a country to have a government and/or ruler. However, a ruler must not have absolute power nor lack authority. But the protection of the people and the country alone is not enough for a country to prosper. The property and the natural rights of the people and the government must also be protected. Thus, the proper role of government is to protect the people’s natural rights, their property, and the people themselves.

The first, and possibly most difficult concept to define ¬¬¬¬¬is democracy itself. Beetham[1] suggests that in order to reach a definition from the many contested options, one must understand that there are core principles of democracy, which can be used to create a definition concurrent with the majority of those posed in the academic field. He identifies these principles as being those of majoritarian rule, consensual rule, representation of ‘public good’ or ‘popular will.’ He also identifies the importance of political equality and the furthering of public good over private interests. The ability to express counter-arguments to pose different points of view are also said to be integral to democratic processes. Representative democracy, Beetham says, goes further requiring the equal opportunity of all citizens to stand for election, the equal accountability of those elected, that the democracy must be representative of the electorate and that citizens are able to participate in political processes through organizations and access to their representatives.
3.)How does the government try to balance the rights of the individual with the good of society?
...ectly impacted in a way that changes the blue prints of their lives. Their family structure, quality of marriage, and stability of the household become affected by the quality of government available serving its citizens. Which is why it is important to consider the structure and stability of governments and leaders before assessing the advancements of its citizens. Government is a medium by which society is ruled with and taught by. If society experiences a odd type of government that is ignorant to their essential needs then societies run into problems in the long run.
- the main function of the state is to protect the rights of the citizens
Human history is pock-marked with innumerable wars and revolutions. The cause for most of the revolutions has been the choice of freedom. The opportunity to live a life without physical, mental or emotional restrictions has been and still is of supreme importance to man. This has resulted in the most widely followed discipline of political governance: Democracy.
...people know with surety that they are going to be protected from evil and the wrongdoers so the government should be obliged to create a Justice system which ensures fairness and equality. Moreover it should also be able to judge without bias and partiality for the betterment of its state.
In addition, democracy maintains the right of choice. These characteristics are the most appealing and dominate because people can formulate decisions based on their cultural, religious, interpersonal, intrapersonal beliefs that outline who...
The obligation of the government to stand for the entire public as it designs and manages the economy by shaping the economic growth and development.
As citizens of the United States, and as people living under a democracy, the government has certain responsibilities to us. We are guaranteed union, justice, tranquility, defense, welfare, and liberty. These rights are all very important to the well being of our country and the states that exist in it. I feel that there are three that are a little more important than the others.
The foundation of the modern political system was laid in the times when the world was strangled in slavery. In those moments, enlightened minds in Greek came up with the new system that was there to remain for the next thousands of years. This system, now known as democracy, is a form of government in which supreme power is vested to the people themselves. People have the right to elect their leaders directly or indirectly through a scheme of representation usually involving periodically held free elections. A new democratic government is usually established after every 4-5 years, and it is trusted with the responsibility to cater to the needs of all the people irrespective of the fact that they voted for them or not. Although the minorities may not be very pleased with the idea of democracy, however, a democratic government is certainly the best because it establishes social equality among people, reduces the conflicts in the state to a minimum, gives the chance to vote repeatedly, and creates patriotism.
