The History of United States consists of countless, heroic individuals that have made this country what it is and what it stands for today. Some of the most influential people have come in the line of presidents leading America through the best and worst times. Through their dedication, inspiration, and willpower to improve their lives and those around them, our world today has been truly changed. Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson are just two of the monumental leaders that have had a lasting impact on the history of this nation. Through researching their lives before the presidency, during their years of service, and contributions thereafter, people around the world are able to obtain a deeper understanding of who these men really were.
On February 12, 1809 in Harding County, Kentucky, a baby boy by the name of Abraham Lincoln was brought into the world. Unknown to him or his family, this small individual would eventually grow up to be known as one of the most influential leaders of the United States. As a child, Lincoln lived an average life. He attended school when it was available and was constantly working to help support his family. He never showed any great interest in politics or ever foreshadowed the significant political title he would one day hold. Lincoln hauled freight down the Mississippi River, worked as a shopkeeper, held the position of a postmaster, and became a lawyer. As the years passed, Lincoln became actively involved in his local politics. A stronger support for the Whig Party became apparent as his contribution and interest in the government grew.
