The Philippines sit astride the typhoon belt which means that the country experiences a number of typhoons especially during the wet season. It is inevitable that some power lines get damaged during the onslaught of the storms which causes power outages and in turn affects all electrical connections of all establishments, being an enterprise dependent on electricity this poses a major problem for the firm. Another are scheduled electrical maintenance set by the local electric power distributor (Batangas Electric Cooperative II or BATELEC II).
Like power outages, two of the main reasons of poor internet connection are strong winds and heavy rains which disrupt the signal transmitted by the internet provider. Other reasons may include faulty wiring, loose cable connections and modem errors. Another problem arises due to the sudden popularity of USB flash drives. It has become easier for computer users to transfer, copy and save their files from one gadget to another. Along with this convenience, flash drives inserted into virus infected computers could easily carry viruses and spread it to other devices once the inflicted flash drive is used.
Similar to all electronic equipments, prolonged usage and power outages gradually degrade the computer components’ durability. Computer hardware is generally considered delicate pieces of equipment, heat and moisture could also cause damage but the most common cause is human error.

As making a decision is a critical behavior, Biz café was absolutely a practical learning experience because it provided me make decisions based on the significant factors of running a business. Moreover, what I have learned from my experience of doing biz café simulation can be divided into two parts such as identifying business essential factors and clarifying the importance of group effects. To begin with, I have become familiar with the significant aspects of managing and running a business although it was difficult to comprehend how to consider the aspects work together at the beginning of the simulation. For instance, vital factors to decide such as managing, marketing and accounting influenced me that I should spend money on acquiring my customers to increase sales and satisfactions as they directly make up a large part of the revenue and net income.

It is also situated near a University, presenting the business with a steady clientele of college students. However, the restaurant seems able to hold on to its market share judging from the reported sales revenue of $ 400,000, and increasing sales. The Shoppe recently underwent a remodeling of its interiors and exteriors, and has purchased several new equipment including computers and a freezer. Tim’s is however facing challenges in staff management.
On August 14th, 2003, a major blackout swept across portions of the northeastern United States and Canada. It was reported that a series of equipment outages in the Midwest led to uncontrolled cascading outages of power transmission lines and generators serving parts of the Northeast, Midwest and Canada. Automatic protective systems operated to open circuits and shut down power plants to prevent further spread of the outages. This is very similar to what happened in The Great Northeast Blackout of 1965. In both situations, the “grid system” shut down one generator in line at a time to protect a surge from the station before it.
Vulnerabilities occur when corrupted code or misconfigured hardware are on a network. This is why it is important for an organization to have an effective vulnerability assessment plan that includes regular scans of the network and annual penetration tests. These scans are very important to prevent hackers from “utilizing these flaws to gain access to your machines” (Houghton, 2003). An excellent source of information to get “summaries, technical details, remediation information, and lists of affected vendors” (US-CERT) is the Vulnerability Notes Database. Please view Appendix B for current threats.
Earthquakes can be very dangerous but what matters the most is that everybody is safe, and that we need to work together. One earthquake, in the Philippines, was truly devastating. It was classified as a 7.2 magnitude. The Philippines responded very well by gathering their resources, spreading the word, and giving donations. They bounced back very quickly.

Business was also dependent upon information technology. If systems were down for some reason due to viruses or major electricity failure, the company would not be able to fill orders. The company should consider external power supply.

One of the main problems that Starbucks is facing at the present time is the ability to maintain national competitive advantage (Monash South Africa, 2014). Due to their local demand conditions, Starbucks tries to satisfy all customers by trying “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time” (Starbucks Corporation, 2014). Local demand conditons consist of a company trying satisfy needs of their closest customers and expanding their competitive advantage by upgrading their strategic management policies (Monash South Africa, 2014).
Smith, PHD (an associate professor of economics at the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University), 6% of data losses is the result of software corruption and 40% is due to hardware failure. So what does this have to do with using up-to-date technology? Choosing to save money today by using unsupported software and outdated hardware are primary reasons for software corruption and hardware failure. Even more, there’s nothing more frustrating than losing data or having a hardware failure that brings employees to a grinding halt and negatively impacts
The product, or delivery system may be inappropriate or inadequate, or the staff may act poorly. The environment can also cause service failures. If the patient thinks the temperature of surroundings is cold, the smell of antiseptic is strong, the exam or waiting rooms are dirty, or the parking lot is dark and far, the patient will feel unhappy about these kind of failures. Staff can bring about various service failures when they are unfriendly or rude, inexperienced or poorly trained, and not occupied with information. The service product setting, staff and delivery system must be efficiently managed to minimize the possibility of a service
