...m and profits for Wynn Resorts.
Considering that the government has no experience at running casinos I feel that the likelihood of them taking over the Wynn property is unlikely and they will continue to profit from Wynn’s success by allowing them to operate in the fashion they are used to. Therefore, I believe building this property will benefit Wynn Resort Limited by establishing a sustainable long-term advantage.

The first article, “The Best Night $500,000 Can Buy,” portrays the perfect night out in Las Vegas. Devin chronologically takes the reader through a night in one of the famous clubs in Las Vegas, Marquee. He describes the fundamental marketing techniques that promoters use to lure women into the venue, the prices that high-rollers pay to get a VIP access and tables, and the “shitshow” atmosphere where people are dancing as if they are on Ecstasy (some people are actually on drugs). From personal experience, Las Vegas is definitely the Disney World for adults because people can openly consume alcoholic beverages on Fremont Street while enjoying their time at the arcades, night and day clubs, pools, gambling rooms, theme park rides, shopping centers, restaurants, strip clubs, and wedding chapels. Which ultimately le...
As strategy consultants of McCormick & Associates, we use Porters Five Forces Model as a framework when making a qualitative evaluation of a firm's strategic position (Appendix 1.2). These five forces determine the competitive intensity and therefore attractiveness of a market. These forces affect the ability of a company to serve its customers and make a profit. A change in any of the forces normally requires a company to re-assess the market place.
Michael Porter's Five Forces analyze the external and internal environment of a company to increase the awareness of threats and structure of the industry that company competes within. Thus, the Five Forces is an ideal tool which can help companies to maintain their competitiveness with a higher profitability.
For years casino gambling was portrayed in the media and Hollywood as being associated with criminal activities and the mafia. Now with proper scrutiny and government regulations casino gambling has become a lucrative business, with casinos stock even trading on Wall Street. Casino gambling is an ever increasingly popular and legal activity in many states throughout the United States. “The term gambling or ‘gaming’ as the industry calls it, means any legalized form of wagering or betting conducted in a casino, on a riverboat, on an Indian reservation, or at any other location under the jurisdiction of the United States” (National Gambling Impact Study Commission Act). States that allow casino gambling benefit vastly by re-incorporating the taxation off of commerce gained from casinos and tourism associated with the casinos back into the state and local communities. Jobs created by casinos also have a positive impact on the economy in local communities surrounding casinos as well as, the states that legalize gambling. Texas, while allowing horse and dog racing, lottery, and charitable bingo, does not currently prohibit casino gambling. In this essay, I will provide the different reasons the State of Texas will benefit from legalizing casinos gambling. By not having casinos, Texas continues to lose valuable tax revenue that could be awarded to state and local government funded programs for example, education, public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. With the increasing number of legal casinos in bordering states such as Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, the loss of tourism and tax revenue is a growing concern for Texas. Passing legislation to allow casinos in the State of Texas will help fund ...
Casinos are very tricky when it comes to “customer relations”. They allow their customers to forget about the world around them and concentrate on winning, when the whole time they are robbing them blind. In most cases, people walk out of casinos with empty pockets and a stomach full of booze.
Social exchange theory. What is real is real in its consequences, per W.I. Thomas. If residents in close proximity to a casino perceive themselves as benefitting from gaming then they are likely to view the casino as positive on their environment, if they perceive themselves as incurring costs or being victim to crime they are likely to view it as negative. Some communities report two-fold increase in the social worker case loads, and an ongoing demand existing f...

Porter, M. E. (2008). The five competitive forces that shape strategy. Harvard business review, 86(1), 25-40.
Porter’s competitive forces model includes five forces that need to be analysed. These forces include the intensity of rivalry from traditional competitors, threat of new market entrants, threat of substitute products and services, bargaining power of customers and bargaining power of suppliers (Laudon & Laudon, 2007). See diagram below;
The hospitality industry in the United States is large, complex and intensely competitive. Within this industry is a segment comprised of hotels and motels, which will be the relevant sector for this marketing plan. To note, the hotel and motel industry in the United States had an estimated value of $137.5 billion as of the end of 2012 (MarketLine, 2012). The industry is forecasted to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.5% from 2011 to 2016, to attain a value of $179.5 billion (MarketLine, 2012). In this industry, the most lucrative segment is leisure which has a market share of 71.1% (MarketLine, 2012). Sunshine Inn (fictional) is a small independent hotel that operates within the leisure segment of the hotel and motel industry in the United States. It is an adventure-themed hotel situated along the California-Nevada border in order to capture the tourist market for Lake Tahoe. Sunshine Inn has 30 bedrooms and 15 suites and offers specialty home-cooked type meals to guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It must be emphasized that the hotel and motel industry is one of the most fiercely competitive in the United States, and in fact, in the world (Johanson & Cho, 2009; Kosarkoska, 2010). Therefore, in order to compete with large hotel chains with five-star hotel rankings, Sunshine Inn will have to depend on strategic approaches, such as effectively targeting and positioning itself in the appropriate market, as well as developing a marketing plan that will promote the unique value propositions that only small, personalized hotels can provide: excellent customer service, customized adventure packages as well as a total customer experience that revolves around enjoyment, fun and discovery. As this marketing plan wi...

The Porter five forces model (see Appendix 1) as an external analysis tool was established by Michael E. Porter and firstly announced in his book “Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors” in 1980 . The main idea of the Porter five forces concept is that the attractiveness of a market depends on the characteristic of the five competitive forces that have an impact on a company (see Appendix 2).
In an effort to expand, the corporation has acquired properties that they will convert to Mandarin Oriental’s brand and standards. The company is looking to develop further and has planned or is planning on acquiring buildings from other hotels such as the Hotel Ritz Madrid in Spain (Winston Nicklin, 2015). They have also sold some of their hotels, such as their location in San Francisco to Loews Hotels and Resorts (King, 2015). The Mandarin Oriental Group is discerning on where they will build or acquire properties, especially from a financial standpoint (Photos.mandarinoriental.com, n.d.). Though they are continually expanding, the Mandarin Oriental Group strives to keep its Asian influences. (Mandarinoriental.com,
Porter’s five forces is a framework for analyzing an industry and business strategy development. It looks at forces that determine the competitive intensity of an industry and hence the overall attractiveness of that industry. The configuration of the five forces differs by industry. Understanding the competitive forces and their underlying causes reveals the roots of an industry’s current profitability while providing a framework for anticipating and influencing competition over time.
