The Pontiac GTO is considered the first true muscle car. Pontiac saw the potential for dropping a big block engine into an intermediate frame and selling it at a budget price, so that people could afford it. The GTO sold in great numbers and would start to fuel the competition between other major vehicle producers. The GTO option was available on three LeMans bodies (We Love Pontiac). There were two kinds of carburetors used, a four barrel and the trio power (We Love Pontiac).
The four barrel offers a four port set up that feeds the gas more smoothly to the intake, unlike the four barrel the trio power consists of three, two barrel, carburetors that cause an uneven flow to the intake. Both carburetors add their disadvantages thought, both devoured a lot of petroleum. The four barrel outsold the trio power three to one (We Love Pontiac). The GTO is known as “The Legend” and “The Great One” (We Love Pontiac). Over half a million GTO’s were produced in the eleven-year run over the market (We Love Pontiac).
Overall, four Ram Air options were produced for the GTO (We Love Pontiac). A ram air intake is any intake design which uses the dynamic air pressure created by vehicle motion to increase the static air pressure inside of the intake. The difference in ram air one from the higher model ram airs is lower compression. The higher the ram air stage is the higher the compression ratio is increased. The basis for ten of the eleven years of GTO’s was General Motors “A-Body” platform upon which mid-size cars for every General Motors marketing division except Cadillac were built (Edmunds).

Not up for debate was the sales success of the Pontiac GTO. The GTO has served many and set a lot of standards for the way that we make vehicles.

When the word Mustang comes to play, most people think of a very well known car, not only for its stylish aspects, but for a variety of reasons: cost, features, speed (probably best know fact), and all around good appeal. The Ford Mustang was designed to be a people car. In 1960 Ford engineers sought out to build a car that the average motor head would be able to afford but yet still have the edgy feel about it. Back at the time of its release, in the early 1960's, the Mustang did hold the advantage over General Motors. General Motors had no car out at the time of the Mustang's release to compete with it. As the years progressed, Ford and Chevrolet managed to out do one another with there monster creations of each car. One such creation by Ford is their 590 HP "Super Stallion." The car features a 590 HP engine which burns alcohol instead of regular pump gas. Economists compare averages of vehicles to calculate and determine the cost of every vehicle that ends up on the car lot. To determine the cost they interpret all the above information and include everything from the cost of making the vehicle to the time of selling it. In the long run, the demand for vehicles is inelastic because they become a necessity for many people. However, in the short run, the demand is elastic because the purchase of a new vehicle can be put off for a while.
The enthusiast driver has to know their machine and their own personal limits when considering these two units. Although they are very similar, turbos and blowers are also very different.

Starting in the late 1700's, European engineers began tinkering with motor powered vehicles. Steam, combustion, and electrical motors had all been attempted by the mid 1800's. By the 1900's, it was uncertain which type of engine would power the automobile. At first, the electric car was the most popular, but at the time a battery did not exist that would allow a car to move with much speed or over a long distance. Even though some of the earlier speed records were set by electric cars, they did not stay in production past the first decade of the 20th century. The steam-driven automobile lasted into 1920's. However, the price on steam powered engines, either to build or maintain was incomparable to the gas powered engines. Not only was the price a problem, but the risk of a boiler explosion also kept the steam engine from becoming popular. The combustion engine continually beat out the competition, and the early American automobile pioneers like Ransom E. Olds and Henry Ford built reliable combustion engines, rejecting the ideas of steam or electrical power from the start.

The 1956 model year brought out a new car, The Rambler. This was not a new name, but the car came out with no mention of Nash or Hudson. The press raved the new Rambler with its improved power, larger interior, and smoother steering. The rest of the American Motors line however, still carried the dated styles of 1952.
The first production Tuned Port Injection (TPI) systems appeared on General Motors' vehicles in 1985. The GM vehicles built with these systems were the Corvette, Pontiac Firebird, Pontiac Trans AM, and the Chevrolet Camaro. Upon their introduction, these systems achieved a 35 % improvement over carbureted systems and a 20% improvement over available forms of fuel injection in horsepower, torque and economy.

In order to have a fast and efficient car all these things I have discussed need to be taken into consideration. A fast car should be designed with aerodynamic surfaces for a balance of maximum production of downforce and minimum drag creating surfaces. It should have as small an engine as possible to reduce mass and reduce the necessary size of the frontal area, but a large enough engine to be able to produce enough horsepower to be able to create more force than the resistance the car faces to accelerate and enough to balance with those forces at high speeds. The tires should be wide enough for fast acceleration and good cornering but not so wide it creates large amounts of rolling resistance. Your overall best example of such a car would be formula one races or Indy cars because they have to have good handling, fast acceleration and reach and maintain high speeds.
Since the first car was developed in 1885, car makers have been striving to create the car that will outshine over the others. There has never been a car to do it better than the Model T. Practical, reliable, and affordable are adjectives that describe the Model T since it came out in 1908. With little over 20 horsepower and a top speed of 45 miles an hour, this simple car propelled the Ford Motor Company to a level of success that had never been seen before(History, “Model T”). Henry Ford and the Model T revolutionized the car industry, as well as people's lives in the 1920s. The influences from the Model T can be found everywhere from the assembly line, to road development, to the middle class even in today’s world.
