Introduction Phenomenon of Interest Social network is a combination of all the most popular growing sites. It is filled with people from all over the world with different cultural backgrounds and different personalities. Social media is the easiest way for people of all personalities to connect with other individuals, whether they are personally familiar with them or not. However, some individuals spend more time on socializing on social networks than they do in real life. Some of these individuals only go on these networks to post pictures and specific details about their own life. Others rarely go on at all, but continue to have pages set up for themselves that they rarely update just to stay in the know of what's going on in other peoples lives. All these individuals have different personality traits. This study sparks interest in seeing the difference between introverts and extroverts on social media websites and how they interact with others. Importance of the topic Studying the relationship between different personalities on social media is important for people to understand what type of personality they are. Some individuals may not realize whether they are introverts or extroverts, and whether or not they have drawn out a profile to make themselves seem like someone they are not. Boyd (2007) suggested that when creating a social network profile, one “can be seen as a digital body where individuals must write themselves into being.” (P. 131) Purpose of the Current Topic The purpose of the current topic is to determine which personality traits are more likely to be more active on social media websites. Setting the types of social media types to 8 categories: social networking (Facebook), professional social networking (LinkedIn), social news (Digg), media sharing (YouTube), microblogging (twitter), blogging, online discussion forums, bookmarking sites (StumbleUpon), and chat applications (What’sApp/SnapChat) Measurement for these variables will start with using the Likert-type scale at the interval level. Questions in the survey focus on use of social media in terms of relationships with fellow persons and interaction with information gathering outside of those relationships. The questionnaire will also question the frequency use of each category in correlation to those relationships. Finally the questionnaire will use five-factor test to identify personality traits.
