I grew up a young man with a opportunity to excel in a family owned business that was based on hard work. For my father never having a formal education seemed to work fine. This mind set bled down to the next generation. I truly thought that hard work and learning what I needed to run that business from him would be all I need but in October of 2004 all that changed. The 25 year old company was no more and I was not only out of a job, career and inheritance but I did not have the education to keep myself employed at the same level. I have the technical skills to do my job well, l however I am missing the educational portion that I feel will be a long term benefit for not only myself but also my family. Finishing what I had started years ago is a critical component in my career success. Going back to school is somewhat outside that comfort zone for me. By now in life I have found that when I am in this uncomfortable zone this is where I most need to grow. The Idea of having dreams is nice for some people however I think that a dream without measurable and tangible goals is a dream most will never achieve. The “Life Goals” that I have set for myself include finishing my degree in business management. As I am able to implement ideas and themes from my education into my business I feel this will greatly enhance my value to the company and my peers. At my current position I am the manufacturing engineer of an LED lighting company that builds light fixtures for commercial and municipalities. Most of my career moves in the last few years have been only in the horizontal direction with fancy titles. This I believe will be the greatest enhancement I can make to my career. One of the most important factors in any ... ... middle of paper ... ... I stored and data backup also having a computer crash or one of my kids decides to take my computer into the shower. These are all real possibilities that I should be prepared, for these reasons have begun to back up my computer on a daily basis with an external hard drive. This is the least expensive and simplest way to save any possible lost data. “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.” (Forest Gump-Forest Gump) This statement has always seemed so true to me. These goals have helped me to eliminate the chocolate covered orange goo that has seemed to drag my life in unexpected directions. So finishing these personal “Life Goals” will be a critical part of my success over the next 5 years. These will be achieved, not by accident but only persistence and time will reveal true success of these aspirations of mine. .
