Personal Reflection on Illegal Immigrants

2560 Words6 Pages

Immigration reform is one of the most pressing issues confronting U.S. Legislators. Do you know why illegal immigrants come to America or any other country? Why is this matter illegal? Some say they leave their home country for a better life and work while others may say for religious reasons or just to get away. Some come for more opportunities and education and a better way of life. What is really the incentive for this? Do you agree or disagree with the law that an illegal immigrant must be demoted back to their country of origin? Do you have sympathy for such actions or are you completely against it? Hopefully if I give logical enough reason I can open your eyes and mind to obtain some of my reasons about illegal immigrants.

Over the past 10 years the number of illegal immigrant in the United States has risen from 5-12 million. This eventually opens the eyes of policyholders to the effects of illegal immigration on incomes and public finances, as well as potential safety threats posed by unauthorized entry into the states. President Bush signed into the secure fence act which authorized the spending of $1.2 billion for the construction of a seven-hundred-mile fence along the U.S- Mexico border. I guess this was the only solution to actually try to cut down the amount of illegal immigrants that were invading the U.S.

When a survey was put forth one of the more popular reasons for wanting to come to America was to seek out a better life for themselves, their children and for work. America seems to have had the better if not most opportunities for a better life. This can go back to as far as Ellis Island. People tried to come from places like Europe and Asia to the Americas to seek out a new beginning with their children and families.

America has less strict rules than most other places. It’s an opportunity to start afresh and to seek out work and a new life. This is the American dream. I think everyone is trying to fill the status quo. The America dream is all about being successful in life.

What really is an illegal immigrant? It is defined as “an alien (non-citizen) who has entered a country without government authorization or remained beyond the expiration date of a visa”.
