If we each had a piece of paper and a writing instrument in front of ourselves this morning, how many of us would be able to identify a place somewhere in this world where there is a war, or a conflict going. I suspect that we could name some conflicted places. It seems as though we hear a lot of war and conflicts these days.
A few more commonly known conflicts and/or wars: Darfur region of Sudan;
Democratic republic of Congo; Iraq; Sri Lanka Middle Eastern location such as
Israel Palestine; Syria
Some lesser known conflicts: Central African Republic; Somalia; Eastern Burma;
Eastern Chad
The locations I have mentioned are just the starting point. Thanks to google and
Wikipedia, I was able to find a lengthy list or places which were currently experiencing conflict and or fighting. This list does not even begin to address the locations where they may be open disputes and disagreements. A place may not considered as under war, but the leadership is fighting with itself, or the leadership is at odds with the surrounding community.
In these days there are wars and rumors of wars. Through media and technology, we read and hear about hiding in caves and friendly fire, special operations and prisoners of war, classified information from throughout the world being dumped into the public domain. We know what war looks like. WE see pictures on television or the internet. We may hear specific details in our daily routine about war and conflict.

I think for some of us listening to the news these days is an exercise of worry and concern, for somewhere there has been an explosion, a suicide bombing, an assassination, involving gangs and tribes, drugs and oil, property and power. In detail we hear the story ...

... in our lives, and it is worth striving to see aspects of this peaceable realm in our own lives.
What is peace good for? It is good for the world, it is good for relationships between people, between communities, and it is good for our own souls. What is what peace is good for? And we should not be focused on how long it will take us to achieve that goal, but rather just to set our faces toward peace, and act and speak in such ways to bring about peace. Even if it takes 27 years.
Let us remember what Christ brings into this world for us and others. Let us recognize our role as Christians to assist in the making of this world in the form that God desires. And may we work together for peace, amongst and within ourselves, and work until we have a lasting and sustainable peace, in and around us. Thanks be to God and may the people of God say together. Amen.
Historical events can play an important role in a person's life. In A Separate Peace, the whole atmosphere at the Devon School changed as World War II progressed. The boys either eagerly awaited the draft, enlisted in the area of war they wanted, or did not want to go at all. The students at the school created new activities for enjoyment since the customary past times could not be played due to a lack of materials. When a friend "returns" from the war, the boys at Devon got a real sense of what the war was like. The boys learned that going to war was not all fun and games like they had anticipated. The influence World War II had on the characters in A Separate Peace and on life at the Devon School was clearly depicted through their actions and activities.
In the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the protagonist, Gene Forrester “battled” within himself to find “a separate peace” and in this process directed his emotions at Phineas, his roommate. Forrester and Phineas formed the illusion of a great companionship, but there was a “silent rivalry” between them in Forrester’s mind. Self deceptions in Forrester led him to believe that Phineas was “out to get him” (Forrester). Subconsciously Forrester jounced the limb of the tree and forced Phineas to fall and break his leg. Phineas found out the truth of his “accident” with the help of Leper Lepellier and Brinker Hadley, who were friends that attended Devon High School. Gene Forrester’s conflict between his resentment of and loyalty toward Phineas’ personality and athletic abilities was resolved by the death of Phineas.
Brenda Shoshanna once stated, “All conflict we experience in the world, is a conflict within our own selves.” This quote recognizes how much conflict influences our everyday lives and personality. The wise words were especially true for Gene, the main character in A separate peace, who let his battles with other characters and the society of his time become his own internal battles. In John Knowles’s novel, A separate peace, all the types of conflict are shown through the main character Gene.
...ychedelics no longer shed light on the possibility of peace but instead the insanity of a social world.
No, peace, true peace, can only come when Yeshua (Jesus) reigns from His throne, in His city, Jerusalem, and all the world bows their knee to their King Messiah. Yeshua, Jesus, IS the Peace of Jerusalem!
...e was a strange beggar. After man has broken so many laws given by the gods, is there any possible chance that peace can ever be an option, or is peace just another figment of man’s imagination?
We need more peace-loving-people to help with the selfish needs of war. There are many different reasons as to why nations may go to war. In its simplest form, nations go to war because of self greed. They have an selfish desire for something. Not all reasons of why we go to war are selfish. Sometimes its for protection. There are two sides when reasoning about objectives of war; its a desire to better the way of life and to protect the way of life. For example, in the Revolutionary War, American people fought against Great Britain because they wanted to keep their independence. This is fighting for the protection of their life. And as many say, war is the absence of peace.
What is peace exactly? Why does everyone want peace? What is so special about this word peace? The words you hear on a pageant “I want world peace.” But why? What is so special? Peace- freedom from or the cessation of war or violence, something we all want. Will we ever get that or shall we just continue to dream of it? The famous words of Martin Luther King, "I have come to the conclusion that the potential destructiveness of modern weapons of war totally rules out the possibility of war ever serving again as a negative good. If we assume that mankind has a right to survive then we must find an alternative to war and destruction. In a day when sputniks dash
From past, present, to future, conflict has defined history. In a world full of battles, revolutions, and seemingly random acts of evil, it is impossible to escape the reality of it all. Many of today’s great classics have been inspired by generations of conflict. Using World War II as the background for John Knowles’ novel A Separate Peace brings up the question if it is ever possible to live in a world without fear, hate and ultimately inevitable conflict. Knowles uses contrasting characters, the innate nature of humans, and contradictory symbols in order to reflect that conflict is inevitable.
In Islam the concept of peace is two-fold. Individuals must firstly be at peace with Allah and secondly, be at peace with themselves and the rest of the world. In Islam the concept of peace is closely connected to the idea of submission. Islam has particularly effective methods for guiding the individual towards attaining inner peace. The aim of Muslim adherents is to submit to Allah and in this submission peace is found. Muslims recognize that peace is not possible outside of a relationship with Allah. Submitting to the will of Allah is the only way of achieving peace with Allah.
Having a discreet understanding of my surroundings helps me better understand who I am as an individual, and how I interact as a collective. Perceiving and understanding myself as well as the rest of the world. If everyone were to effectively do this it opens up room for, peace, unity, and self-intimacy. If I possesses true understanding then it will create peace with in my mind but if every possesses true understanding it can create peace with in mankind.
If we are kind to other countries they don't have reasons to be rude to us, if we are peaceful and kind and have tolerance we could prevent wars happening between us and other countries. Wars can kill people and hurt them in other serious ways. Wars have been a problem for a long time. Some countries don't agree with our ways and sometimes we don't agree with theirs which can result in wars. If we keep at peace with the other countries there could be less
The idea of peace is something everyone in the world likes to think is real, though in reality humanity is too arrogant and greedy to be able to settle their differences whether it be color of skin, whose got a bigger navy/gun. World War I was proof of this fact that war is inevitable. Even through diplomatic strategies and peace treaties there will always be someone whether it be a country in whole or one individual that will be there to tip the balance when the “bubble” get too big.

As Christians, we are to be redemptive agents for God. Just as God showed us grace and mercy. By the sacrifice of his only son, Jesus Christ, and through his blood saved us from our sins. To then be reborn in salvation. We too are responsible to show grace and mercy to our fellow man. In both cases, we are presented with the opportunity to show grace and mercy.
