Percy Jackson is a half blood son of Poseidon. He has long shaggy hair with blue eyes and very pale skin. He wears blue jacket with his trusty pen/sword in his pocket. He is a quest kind of person who is always looking for an adventure with his friends Grover, Annabeth and Thalia. He is a very nice not self centered person. He is always looking to help someone like when Annabeth “died” he said “Annabeth no i don’t want you to die” (26). He talks normal like a normal person but he does have dyslexia so he does have trouble reading like “I would read the word dog as bog”(23). He interacts with the other characters very well except for Zoe Nightshade. When she comes in the story he says “oh great you” but everyone else he is friends with. For example when they are at the Hoover Dam Percy said “I need to get to the dam snack bar and everyone cracked up except zoe(p 208). He is a good character and friend to all of his friends in the book.
The conflict happened when Percy found out that Dr. Thorn was still alive Dr. Thorn attacked Percy and his friends when they went to get Grover, Percy's friend who is half goat. The rising action happened when they were on their way to the Hoover Dam and they find a manatee who has the power to destroy the whole world. The climax happened when they went to San Francisco and found Annabeth's dad and he told them to go to the top of the mountain. the falling action was the battle where Percy held up the weight of the sky. The resolution was when they went to Olympus and told the gods all about it and how The Titans Army is fighting back.. “You have done good Percy Jackson” (p 310). Another thing that happened was that they found out that Bianca and Nico are children of Hades.

In the beginning of the book, the author had Percy go to the school. Percy would meet Bianca and Nico at the school and they later help Percy and his friends out a lot. They later figure out that Bianca and Nico are children of Hades. The author had them meet Dr. Thorn so that Annabeth and Dr. Thorn would fall of the cliff. The author had Percy’s horse show up so that he could fly him to Washington state to figure out that Luke and Dr. Thorn are still alive. “Percy, Grover said, You are not suppose to be here, Luke I said, trying to catch my breath he is here” (p 110). Then the author had them go to San Francisco so that they could have the fight on top of the mountain where Zoe died. I think the author did a good job putting the story together.

Percy Percy provides the novel with the perfect parallel to Dunstan. He does, however, contrast in many ways to Dunstan. They are best friends, but Percy rivalry results in the formation of the main setting of the novel. Percy also feels more of an attachment to material goods than Dunstan does. He thinks only of himself and is in constant pursuit of total and utter control. Percy was low moral standards in comparison to Dunstan and in some ways, feels he is of a higher stature than other human beings. This awkward relationship between him and Dunstan forms the basis of the novel.
David W. Blight's book Beyond the Battlefield: Race, Memory and the American Civil War, is an intriguing look back into the Civil War era which is very heavily studied but misunderstood according to Blight. Blight focuses on how memory shapes history Blight feels, while the Civil War accomplished it goal of abolishing slavery, it fell short of its ultimate potential to pave the way for equality. Blight attempts to prove that the Civil War does little to bring equality to blacks. This book is a composite of twelve essays which are spilt into three parts. The Preludes describe blacks during the era before the Civil War and their struggle to over come slavery and describes the causes, course and consequences of the war. Problems in Civil War memory describes black history and deals with how during and after the war Americans seemed to forget the true meaning of the war which was race. And the postludes describes some for the leaders of black society and how they are attempting to keep the memory and the real meaning of the Civil War alive and explains the purpose of studying historical memory.
Percy’s relationship with other characters reveal a lot about who he is.The feelings with his mother is that there close. Percy feelings his dad is he thinks he’s a coward and Percy doesn't like his step father. Percy's feelings with his mom is that they are both close because in the text it says “But ever since, my mom went out of her way to eat blue. She baked blue birthday cakes. She mixed blueberry smoothies. She bought blue-corn tortilla chips and brought home blue candy from the shop. This—along with keeping her maiden name, Jackson, rather than calling herself Mrs. Ugliano—was proof that she wasn't totally suckered by Gabe. She did have a rebellious streak, like me.” This shows they are close because he calls her mom and cares about
Percy Jackson lives a normal but hard life. The reader is able to determine that this is the ordinary world as Percy has not been told his true identity. Percy thinks he is an ordinary average teenage boy attending sixth grade at his sixth school, Yancy Academy which is a “private school for troubled kids in upstate New York.” Percy mentions that his life is quite confusing as well as he describes he has dyslexia and ADHD. These are the problems create a major issues as they affecting and make his academic achievement difficult. At birth Percy’s first father had left him and his mother. After his father left them his mother decided to get remarried. From Percy’s point of view this was not a smart choice as his step father treated her poorly. Percy is definitely unsatisfied and frustrated with her decision as he respects and cares about her a lot. Percy also greatly loves his mother as he defends her when she is disrespected by his stepfather. Percy seems to only have one real friend, Grover who is scrawny and “on top of all that, he is crippled”. He does not associate with other kids as he feels he does not belong with them. The reason he is in trouble at home and school could be that others don’t recognize and realize him as well as he does not understand his place. This is what the reader would classify as Percy’s ordinary world. From this point on, the story will further develop into the next stage call to adventure as the ordinary world seems to be a place the he despises.
Michael MacDonald’S All Souls is a heart wrenching insider account of growing up in Old Country housing projects located in the south of Boston, also known as Southie to the locals. The memoir takes the reader deep inside the world of Southie through the eyes of MacDonald. MacDonald was one of 11 children to grow up and deal with the many tribulations of Southie, Boston. Southie is characterized by high levels of crime, racism, and violence; all things that fall under the category of social problem. Social problems can be defined as “societal induced conditions that harms any segment of the population. Social problems are also related to acts and conditions that violate the norms and values found in society” (Long). The social problems that are present in Southie are the very reasons why the living conditions are so bad as well as why Southie is considered one of the poorest towns in Boston. Macdonald’s along with his family have to overcome the presence of crime, racism, and violence in order to survive in the town they consider the best place in the world.
Throughout the novel Grendel by John Gardner, the main character Grendel is searching for answers about life, most importantly the meaning of life. He is confused with how he wants to view life and searches for some reason to why he exists. He turned too many for these answers; his mother, man, and the dragon, but no one could provide Grendel the answer he so desperately sought, all just pushed him to the idea of existentialism.
Over the course of Kurt Vonnegut’s career, an unorthodox handling of time became one of many signature features in his fictional works (Allen 37). Despite The Sirens of Titan (1959) being only his second novel, this trademark is still prevalent. When delving into science fiction, it is often helpful to incorporate ideas from other works within the genre. This concept is exemplified by the “megatext,” an aspect of science fiction that involves the application of a reader’s own knowledge of the genre to a new encounter (Evans xiii). By working within the megatext, Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Dispossessed (1974) provides an insightful avenue in exploring the handling of time and its consequences in Vonnegut’s The Sirens of Titan.
In the book The Lightning Thief by Rodman Philbrick, Percy Jackson goes to Yancy Academy and is picked on. He gets kicked out of the school and ends up at Camp Halfblood, which is a camp for kids who aren’t normal, when he is there he learns a lot about his past. At Yancy Academy and Camp Halfblood Percy is picked on by two different girls Nancy Bobofit at Yancy and Clarisse at Halfblood. Clarisse is not like Nancy Bobofit because she is a demi-god and Nancy is human, she picks on Percy personally with Nancy on the other hand who picks on Grover to annoy Percy, and she is not afraid to get in a confrontation while Nancy doesn’t want to get in an actual confrontation.
Percy’s and Dunstan’s characters contrast in many ways. The most prominent way in which they contrast is their values. Dunstan values spiritual things, while Percy values only material things. Percy is impressed by and yearns for money, while Dunstan could care less about it. Dunstan explains his lack of desire for materialistic things:
I enjoy the way you write. It is clear, concise, and you remain aligned within your thesis. I think you do a great job running the king through Frye’s different archetypes. However, in that section you clump Aristotle in the middle of your Frye explanation. I would keep the Aristotle info in the essay because it is relevant. However, I think it would flow better if you introduced Aristotle in the beginning of your Frye section. Explain how Frye is walking in his footsteps. Also, later in the essay you introduce catharsis, but do not give a good explanation.
Percy Jackson is the main character in this story, who is a demi god, who mortals are after. His name is short for Perseus and his father is one of the big three gods, Poseidon. He is suffering from dyslexia and ADHD, which could be deliberately added to the character by Riordan, to show he is meant to be a hero, and not to do well in school. This shows that school is not what he is good at, and he is destined to be a hero and save people. The character Grover, who plays Percy’s best friend, parallels a Satyr who is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down and is a companion of wine God, Dionysus, who we later learn, is the camp director for Half-Blood Camp.

The fact that Percy Jackson has friends is incredible. It is an unshakable fact that any friend of his within a ten-mile radius will be in a life or death situation with him by dinner, and they are not always as lucky as he is. However, that is getting ahead of ourselves. Over the course of the five-part contemporary young adult series, Percy Jackson & The Olympians, the titular character, Percy Jackson, must embrace his Greek God parentage and save Olympus with the help of his fellow demigods. The aim of this paper is to discuss his Hero’s Journey throughout the series, provide an in-depth character analysis, and draw parallels between Percy and the three classic Greek heroes of mythology: Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules.
