Plastic surgery is a corrective specialty that is used for personal or medical purposes. Many people think about plastic surgery is just used for making your nose smaller or breasts bigger, when actually it is used for much more. For example, plastic surgery can also help someone who has gotten burned, by placing skin from another part of the body to the burn. Plastic surgery is primarily used for fixing themselves because they feel self-conscious or feel uncomfortable in their own skin. There are two main branches of plastic surgery, which is reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery is mainly used if someone gets in an accident and needs a part of their body to work again. Such as if someone got their hand ran over, doctors would need to reconstruct the person’s entire hand in order for the hand to work again. The certain body part doesn’t go back to being perfect, but it manages to work for the person that received the treatment. Where cosmetic surgery is just used for more of a personal appearance thing and fixes someone’s personal imperfections.
In particular, cosmetic surgery is on the rise and the number of people who have gotten plastic surgery has gone up in the past 10 years. In 2012 a poll was taken and almost twenty eight hundred thousand women have gotten breast implants. Its seven percent less than 2011, but the number is still high. Nose reshaping has risen by four percent. For men, getting a facelift has gone up by seven percent from 2011 to 2012. During the 2013 Christmas season more women were obtaining cosmetic surgery. Patients should also be aware of the possibility of developing a mental stability once they get cosmetic surgery, so they don’t end up suffering a mental disorder around perfection. The prices with cosmetic surgery don’t just come with the initial surgery, but the upkeep as well. Doctors should also be aware of their patients’ health and make sure all the patients’ needs are met. So if a person is considering cosmetic surgery consider all the factors and angles that come with it as well.
