A technological development throughout today’s society would be the history of developed computers. Computers claimed to be one of the fascinating inventions that made a person’s life interchange their daily routines. However, generations of computers have increased the amount of inventory at an exponential rate. In fact, computers performed the best and the simplest ways that accomplished a person’s deeds more quickly. As of today, computers developed a major economic improvement in today’s society.
When computers were invented for the first time, they were manually adjusted by the use of a human brain. In addition, governments were able to get work done faster and calculate some serious number-crunching crisis (Zimmermann). At that time, computers made complicated tasks much simpler. “That’s why a new breed of educators, inspired by everything from the Internet to evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, and AI, are inventing radical new ways for children to learn, grow, and thrive.” (Davis) As a result, computers have provided governments and other public officials a better way to manage other responsibilities as well.
Furthermore, the development of computers has had a positive influence in today’s society. According to Zimmermann, an English mathematician, Charles Babbage, designed a computer in which allowed a human to calculate enormous numbers and add up tables (Zimmermann). Computers originated from having a machine that would only operate minimal conditions, such as, solving critical numbers and computing tables. Likewise, teachers demanded students to learn the computer skills by themselves so they can teach it to the other students as well (Davis). Zimmermann, on the other hand, proved facts about how computers gave an advantage to people to do more work faster in a less period of time. To be complex, Davis and Graziano were both in a situation where there were few advantages and disadvantages that helped them for their own support. Although, Andrew supported reliable facts to prove how computers were worth back then and how much they are worth now. Computers remain to be the sources and tools that sometimes it depends on real-life applications.

Humans are becoming more technologically-efficient every day. New inventions and innovations are constantly being made. The Internet is becoming more “reliable” every day. However, how much do we really get from the constant advancement of Internet use and smarter technology? Should we look at their contributions to the world as a benefactor or a curse? The common effect of “artificial intelligence” in the technology we use every day is examined by two brilliant authors, Nicholas Carr and Jamias Cascio. In Carr’s article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid”, he explains the effects of the Internet and technology in our society and claims that the overuse of technology is dangerous and can affect how our mind operates. Jamias Cascio, on the other hand, uses his article “Get Smarter” to show the positive effects of technology in our constantly adaptive society claims that technology may just be making our society smarter and more efficient. While Carr and Cascio both use the claim of cause in their articles to provide valid points on how technology affects our society, Carr’s article proves to be more effective because it focuses on skeptical-based evidence and uses a variety of appeals and proofs.
Gelernter admits the computers are very helpful for educational purposes if the people use it wisely. He suggests, “Computers have the potential to accomplish great things. With right software, it could help make science tangible or teach neglected topic like art and music.” (278). But while admitting the power of technology, he also points out the adverse effects of excessive use of technology in the education system. He states, “Computers make our worst educational nightmare come true.” (279). According to him the improper or overuse of computer hinders the learning ability. Through the years, developments in Science and Technology can be noticed. Advancement in science and technology have made life better, easier, and efficient. Take computers, as an example. In old days, computers were as big as a room, and were not comfortable to use because the computer screen can damage the eyes. Conversely today, computers are small as the size of our palm, and has better display. Unlike the computers in the past, which were slow and has limited functionalities, computers in the present time are fast and has all the functionalities an individual needs for his or her everyday life. Technology is still developing to improve the life of every living creature on Earth. However, such developments will not happen without the contributions of the people in the past specially the individuals during the Renaissance, which is the time when intellect, and artistic achievements were being recognized.
Calculators, computers, appliances, and many more things were created to help us. “The tools we use to think change the way in which we think” (Turkle). This point that Sherry Turkle made in her article and it is true, in a way. Computers do things for us and to us, that is also true. Some people like to blame technology for a lot of things and they could be in the right or in the wrong for it. “Technology does not determine change, but it encourages us to take certain directions” (Turkle). Calculators, for example, are only a tool and people will blame them when the answer they get is wrong. Computer technology is advancing at rapid rates. More and more information is found and processed every day. According to Linowes, ìMore information has been produced in the last thirty years than in the previous five thousand.î1 This information that is rapidly becoming available has produced many benefits to the human race. It has given humans more and more control over nature. It has been stated that ìthe computer has opened up new dimensions in communication, architectural design, engineering, medical analysis, and even artistic expression.î2 People thousands of miles away can do more than simply talk over the phone, but see each other while talking on their computer screens. Architectural structures are planned three dimensionally on the computer. This is much faster and easier than using blueprints. Humans are even considering education through computers. Students would not have to leave the comfort of their own home to go to school. Linowes states that ìinstead of confining formal learning to the classroom, students would be taught wherever they might beÖby giving them access to centralized information networks.î3 This would open up new doors for schooling and revolutionize the education system. Tasks for almost every profession and area of interest are done faster, more efficiently, and with less effort on computers.
“Computers play a key role in almost every sphere of life” (Berry, Terrie). Without them, everything would be different. People all around the world own or used a computer. Whether you are a professional in technology or just an average person, computers are still very important in your everyday life. “No other technology has accessed the world like computers and the use of the Internet have” (Maddox, Amanda). Without computers, consumers would not be able to do half the things as quickly as we can. Advances in computer design have increased its use for different industries, especially in the medical field.
It has been commonly said that the computer can never replace the human brain, for it is humans that created them. Is this a good reason why the computer must be inferior to humans? Say this man can calculate as fast as a computer, but can he achieve a 100% rate of accuracy in his calculation? Why do we now go over the human data entry into a computer when a mistake is noticed instead of checking the computer? It is because computers now possess the ability to hold no error in its operation, where mankind has not advanced in this area at all.
Since the beginning of time, humans have thought and made many inventions. Repeatedly the newer one is better than the older. Our minds have created many remarkable things, however the best invention we ever created is the computer. computers are constantly growing and becoming better every day. Every day computers are capable of doing new things. Even though computers have helped us a lot in our daily lives, many jobs have been lost because of it, now the computer can do all of the things a man can do in seconds! Everything in the world relies on computers and if a universal threat happens in which all computers just malfunction then we are doomed. Computers need to be programmed to be able to work or else it would just be a useless chunk of metal. And we humans need tools to be able to live; we program the computer and it could do a lot of necessary functions that have to be done. First it is useful to discuss in what sense computers can be used in a decision-making process. As computers approximate more and more the range of capacities that humans are capable of, the more they will be able to take an active role in organizing our lives. Consider, for example, the role of a bank's computer systems. While one might argue that computerized record-keeping is more of a tool rather than an active force, bookkeeping used to be an activity entirely reserved for people. Therefore, it constitutes an activity that has been mechanized in some way. It is not inaccurate to say that the pen has been passed from human hands to digital ones. Practically, what are the differences? Perhaps human bookkeeping allowed a degree of supervision, e.g. illegal activity was easier to keep track of. (However, it could also work the other way, and the efficiency of computers could introduce this sort of monitoring.) The point of this example is to demonstrate that every action--or lack thereof--a person takes can be said to contribute to some sort of decision. If a bookkeeper caught a mistake or suspicious activity, he might be able to act in a way that a computer cannot.
Thousands of years ago calculations were done using people’s fingers and pebbles that were found just lying around. Technology has transformed so much that today the most complicated computations are done within seconds. Human dependency on computers is increasing everyday. Just think how hard it would be to live a week without a computer. We owe the advancements of computers and other such electronic devices to the intelligence of men of the past.
